The walk back to the main doors of Hogwarts passed in soft words and wry observances. Remus found out more about Severus Snape than he’d ever thought to ask, to know. Severus saw a different side of Remus Lupin, marveling at the depths the man—for that was what he was, lycanthropy aside—that seemed to have wormed his way into his heart.

As they stood before the main doors, Severus’ wand at the ready to open them, Remus exclaimed. “A shooting star! Look, Severus, look!” He pulled up their joined hands and pointed at the fiery trail cutting across the eastern night sky.

“There’s an ancient story my mother told me once, when Tobias was three sheets to the wind and snoring on the settee.” Severus wrapped his arms around Remus as they watched the star streaking across the dark horizon. He put his chin on Remus’ shoulder and spoke softly into his ear. “Mages of old would summon a fiery being from the Great Void. This being would enter our world in a streak of diamond dust that glittered to all four corners of the world. If you were lucky enough to witness the event, you would be granted your greatest unspoken wish, you heart’s deepest desire, if you will.” Severus turned his head and kissed Remus’ cheek. “It’s been over twenty years since I wished upon a star for anything…anyone,” Severus breathed.

Remus turned in his arms and leaned forward, meeting Severus’ lips. A sparkling powder drifted down over them, limning them in stardust. While he kissed Remus, Severus poked his wand tip out and swirled it to collect a small amount. Remus grinned against his lips and then deepened their kiss.

I'm really enjoying how Remus and Severus are getting to know each other more.

I'm enjoying the slow pace, too. It's a stretch for me; I do lots of one-shot stories. I'm so thrilled at the story's reception and all the kind words.

I like to think Eileen was a loving mother that tried to share bits and pieces of the Prince history with Severus, and telling it under Tobias' drunken nose seems like something that a Slytherin might do.

And, I'm really glad the story works for you. I wasn't certain if it was long enough.

I can just see Severus waiting for the shooting stars and making wishes.

Awwwww! What a delightful night this turned into, after a fairly unprepossessing start, too. *g*
I am catching up and it's great. I especially love how Severus got rid of Peeves. ;)

Okay, reading onward now. :)

I think things are going in a more wonderful line than Severus ever imagined and the fact that Remus is drinking it all in as well makes it all the more easy to ignore the bad parts.
