Stepping out of Harry's flat, Hermione waited until the door clicked shut behind her before she exhaled the breath she had been holding, tears instantly filling her eyes. She turned stiffly and began walking down the corridor, jaw clenched as the tears started slipping down her cheeks. Maybe she had ruined everything. What if Harry could never get past what she had told him? It made her heart ache just to think about it. She managed to leave the floor Harry was on, stepping into the stairwell before she couldn't hold it in any longer. Dropping down onto the stairs, Hermione pulled her knees up to her chest and cried. She never would have dreamt he could have felt that way and now... if only he had said something while they had been in the forest. It was too late now, though. She couldn't just ignore how she felt for Draco, it was far too complicated for that.
It took her a few minutes to compose herself and Hermione finally managed to rein herself in and stood up once more. Sniffling, she wiped her face as best she could before continuing onward. If there was one person on this whole sodding island that might be able to cheer her up, it had to be Draco, didn't it? If her Harry had reacted so poorly, who knew how anyone else would handle it. She knew Ron would be dreadful and Harry was probably right... Ginny would think she was mental, and she just couldn't deal with that right now. As much as they all hated how terribly narrow-minded and prejudiced Draco and those like him had been... they had their own fair share of bias. She couldn't help but feel guilty as she made her way toward his flat, but at the moment, he was the only person she wanted to see. She hoped he wasn't busy. What if Pansy was over there? Or the other Draco? She didn't want to make him uncomfortable. It was almost enough to prevent her from stopping by, but unlike Harry, Hermione didn't particularly want to be alone right now.
Arriving to Draco's flat, Hermione stood in front of the door for several moments, just staring at it. Why did everything have to be so complicated? Why did Harry have to be like that? Why did Draco have to have been so terrible when they were younger? Hermione dropped her head to look down at her feet before closing her eyes to pull herself together. She wasn't going to fall apart any more. Once had been enough. Harry had every right to want to be alone right now, no matter how terribly it hurt her feelings. A deep breath and an unsteady exhale and Hermione lifted her head again and then stepped forward to knock on the door. Stepping back, she wrapped her arms around herself, the stance making her look more vulnerable than she wanted to come across. Eyes red-rimmed, she sniffled once more as she waited for the door to open. "Please be home," she murmured. When the door finally opened, she immediately forced a small, clearly false smile, "Hi."
