Charon/Gideon
The silence still surrounded him, but it was heavier somehow, almost as if it had a mass or weight to it. Gideon could feel the press of it all around, and he wondered for a moment if he was back in training and this was some kind of drill. He could remember having to dig holes in the desert and then bury himself inside them - something that had always seemed ridiculous to him, because how often were they going to be put in that kind of situation - and the air he was breathing now certainly felt the same: cool and dry and slightly earthy, though he couldn't really explain what earthy was.
