New Beginnings (narrative; open)
Captain James Hook stepped off his ship and onto the docks. He held himself as proudly s ever as he scanned this new port. It did not seem too different from any other port his ship had ever called upon. But there was one very, very big difference. This port was not in England or Neverland. This was a new place, a new land. A place for a new beginning.
If what he had heard was correct, Peter Pan had never been here. He had no control over this area. What was even more appealing to the pirate captain was that there were adults in this area. If he was honest, and he usually was, he was tired of only having his crew to talk to. They were the only adults in Neverland and frankly, they were not very stimulating conversationalists. His crew liked to talk about plunder, booty, the seas, sailing, food and rum. All of which was interesting for approximately twelve and one half minutes.
New land also meant new opportunities for him to advance his position. His reputation was not known here. It may be well justified to say Hook was ruthless, violent and cold-hearted, but these people did not know any of that. He could find the rulers of this place and see if he could find a way to get into their inner circles. From there it would be oh so very easy to bend a few ears and curry a few favors. Hook could get them on his side.
And then use them as he saw fit.
He would need to think of a good story to explain how he had lost his hand. Saying that some boy had cut it off and fed it to a crocodile would most likely only get him laughed at. Hook truly hated it when people laughed at him. It had happened too many times in his youth for him to ignore. Therefore, he would have to come up with a story that was simple, plausible, and terribly tragic. Tragic stories always got the attention of any women that might hear it.
An accident aboard a ship would be a good start. Lost his poor hand saving the young child of one of the passengers. He would say that the child was from the middle class. That would keep his audience from questioning much further. If he said lower class, they might wonder why he bothered at all to save the poor, wretched thing. And if he implied a high-class passenger, they might inquire as to just whom the poor thing was, they may know of them. Middle class would be safest.
The pirate captain rubbed the hook that stood in place of his right hand. He would see his plans fulfilled this time. There would be no Pan to interfere nor would any authorities stand in his way. Hook would play the gentleman to any and all he met. Anyone that needed to be dealt with he would handle quietly, preferably in the dark of night. Nothing would keep Hook from getting in with the dwellers of the upper crust.
After he got there, then he would plan out what he wanted to do next. He was not sure yet exactly what he would do, but he was certain it would involve ruling the land and coming into great amounts of gold.
Pleased with the ideas he had formulated, James Hook smiled as he walked down the docks and into the town.
