Tourist Trap?

Dear Sir or Madame

You have been selected to spend an exclusive, all expenses paid weekend inside the infamous Winchester Mystery House in sunny San Jose, California.

A car will arrive at your place of residence at promptly seven o'clock in the morning on Friday, November 19. Please have your bags packed, and be ready, as we would hate for you to miss your flight.

Upon arrival at the manor, we ask that you please visit the check in desk to make sure that you have access to everything that the manor has to offer. Secondly, you should check out our commons area to mingle with some of the other guests.

You will be staying in one of our luxurious rooms for the duration of your stay with us.

Dinner is served nightly at six-thirty in our luxurious dining hall, and don't forget to take a stroll through our luscious gardens. The only thing we ask that you do not do is venture out of your room at night. After all, the Winchester Mansion is a very large place. We wouldn't want you getting lost.

We hope you enjoy your stay.

Forgotten Gods follows the deities of ancient mythologies, brought to America long ago by explorers or immigrants from their homelands and eventually abandoned or lost from memory. As their worshippers have moved on to new religions, the gods' powers have waned -- for a god, at its most pure essence, is no more than an idea, and an idea is worthless if there is nobody to believe in it. Some have passed, forgotten, from the world, while others have fallen into madness. Some have simply tried to adapt, to make a life for themselves in this place without gods, getting by on what little scraps of worship and belief they can garner. Others are more radical, intent on regaining the power that was once theirs and reviving their followings.

And then there are the New Gods. Gods of cars and computers, television and radio, cities and highways, all those things that modern Americans put their faith in. They are young, at the height of their power. These newcomers are regarded dismissively by some of the old ones, who have seen so many new deities rise and fall in their time; jealously by others, who wish to reclaim the power for their own; and by all with a deep, abiding wariness.

Inspired by the world of Neil Gaiman's American Gods, this game invites players to step into the roles of deities, old and new, to create their own modern mythology.

Six degrees of separation (also referred to as the "Human Web") refers to the idea that everyone is on average approximately six steps away from any other person on Earth, so that a chain of, "a friend of a friend" statements can be made, on average, to connect any two people in six steps or fewer.

In January 2006, Wizarding Great Britain is finally ready to move on from the events of May 1998. Hogwarts reconstruction has been completed, old shops have been restored and reopened and new shops have popped up in Wizarding towns. The community and commerce is thriving once more.

However, old prejudices die hard. School rivalries still ring true, Pureblood Supremecists still hold their views with utmost importance and Muggleborn Rights Activists still fight for complete equality. Not everyone gets along and this is no perfect world. Where will you fit in? Will you be the Boy Hero having drinks at a local pub with the Slytherin Prince? Will you be the Bubbling Badger secretly pining after the Raven Seeker? Will you be the Brawny Sidekick struggling to shed pretense in order to strike up a friendship with the Bookish Brunette?
