There has always been magic in the world.

It enters during periods of great destruction, sneaking into the world when humans are unaware. Most humans can't see magic. It is protected by the Delirium, a veil of thought that keeps ordinary people from seeing what they don't comprehend. The unicorn they saw walking down the street? "It was a white horse." The ghost in the living room? "A trick of the light." That man who vanished in thin air? "Mirrors."

There are a few who are able to see past the Delirium. They find themselves drawn together as magic calls to itself. Two factions have formed--the Mages, those who bend magic to their will, and the Witchfinders, those who are determined to control magic and protect humans from experiencing it.

The Witchfinders have been successful in pushing magic back for years. But as centuries have passed and science taken hold, the faction lost its power. As a result, it weakened. Magic finally had its chance.

They came at night, men and women in white coats with needles and drugs, chloroform and ether, invading the sanctity of homes. They stepped through portals and no wards or locks could stop them. They kidnapped individuals and took them to an artificial island for the purpose of observing them.

The Heads put their new subjects in rooms in a hotel, turned on their cameras, and settled down to wait. They were engaged in a social experiment, peppering their artificial island with rumors of a way back home, if only people could learn to work together.

But the people weren't simply left to their own devices. The Heads create hazards on a weekly basis to keep the population on their toes and to observe the effects of various changes to the environment. They want to see the formation of bonds of friendship and love, of animosity and hatred, and then test those bonds.

Is there an escape? Will it be found before it's too late? Can antagonists learn to work together? Come join us and find out ...

In Darkness is a moderately fast paced, thread-heavy, non-crack, plot-centric panfandom game. All fandoms are welcome, and player input is invaluable. We're here to make a fun game for you guys, so we encourage people to suggest plots and collaborate on plot discussions.

We are writing-oriented and big fans of organic development between characters - as opposed to plotting things out ahead of time and following a script. We do require at least one thread per month per character, though more is always encouraged.

In 1998, just after Lord Voldemort delivered the killing curse to Harry Potter, a peculiar incident occurred. A light flashed over all of Britain and then there was a deafening silence. A country of over fifty million was suddenly reduced to less than a hundred thousand. Cities became ghost towns as all of the muggles disappeared off the British Isle. The interruption was enough to turn the tides in favor of the Death Eaters, and by sunrise, they had declared victory.

Now five years later, the Voldemort Regime has enacted harsh laws to restrict all but those who are loyal to the Dark Lord. Muggleborns have been reduced to either slaves or criminals, laboring for the Dark Lord or on the run from his hit wizards. Those loyal to the Dark Lord have been given large swaths of land, and prestigious positions in the wizarding government. Those who are not have had their homes, jobs, businesses and even children stripped from them.

With muggleborn rebellions on the rise, and criminals organizing, the country is turning more and more violent, and the only solution seems to be to find where the muggles have gone, and how can they get back to the old world?
