The hero looked desperately around for anyone who might be of help. He was alone. The pirate grinned, and pulled out a dagger. The hero looked around for cover. There is none, so he backed up against the wall, praying that the pirate didn't have the key. The pirate didn't, but unfortunately he also had an excellent arm. Excruciating pain overwhelmed all of the hero's senses, as he sunk to the ground, the dagger embedded in his chest. Next time, he'd have to remember not to insult the man's mom. It was obviously a terrible tactical strategy. His last thought was about how very much he wished the internet had been invented here so that he could look up things like “diplomacy” or “gypsy curses.” He was desperately trying to recall something from his psychology class when his heart finally stopped, and everything went black. Sunlight streamed through the stable window, and the hero blinked a bit before sitting up to find a man with a pitchfork staring at him. “Did the wizard send ya?” the man asks accusingly. Grover Underwood and the other Satyr seekers have discovered and safely transported countless new demigod children to Camp Half-Blood; Annabeth Chase has overseen the reconstruction of Olympus and many of the new cabins for minor gods at Camp; and Percy has stayed on as a Camp counselor in between quests to slay monsters and protect the world. The disciplinary excesses of the Chancellor seem to be held in relative check by the Lord Protector, who is regarded as fondly as the Chancellor is feared. Within the NAA, the highest offense is treason. Those who are able to conform to its laws enjoy the all the freedoms and privileges offered in the world free of the Statute of Secrecy. Britain's integration into the NAA in 1970 was the source of much division within the British magical population. Some argued in favor of allying for the economic benefits and the ideological tenants of egalitarianism within the wizarding community, while others protested yielded power to what appeared to be an increasingly dictatorial regime. In 1978, the British Ministry of Magic operates as a loyal satellite of the NAA. Territories of the NAA are secretly policed by a German-based military division, the Order of the Phoenix, who see little difference between dissent and disloyalty.
