WHO: Maddie and Marty
WHEN: July 16, 2019; afternoon
WHERE: Cafeteria
WHAT: A run-in with Sandwich Guy.
RATING: Low/Medium-ish.
Maddie was tired of the same old meals that were served in Sing Sing’s cafeteria. It was more or less always the same old disgusting thing, and as much as she enjoyed cookies and cupcakes, those got tiring after a while, too. Everyone was always praising the stripper for her cooking abilities, as if cookies and cupcakes were anything worth bragging about. Anybody could make those. Even Maddie, although she was more skilled with frying and grilling, than baking. “Who do I have to kill to get a slice of pizza around here?” The young woman muttered to herself as she shoved her bowl of pasta salad away from her. It couldn’t be that hard to improvise a post-apocalyptic pizza. They had bread and vegetables and, occasionally, meat. The cheese might be hard to come by, but Maddie the pizza-fan had eaten pizza without cheese before. Her brother was supposed to meet her for lunch today, but he was twenty minutes late, so that either meant he was busy or he’d forgotten. Typical of her oldest brother. He never seemed to remember things when it was something Maddie wanted. That was fine, though. Eating alone didn’t bother her. It was the eating alone in a crowded cafeteria that made her feel lonely. Not that she’d ever admit that she was lonely. |
