Puzzled, Maddie quirked her head to one side. “There was a book? Huh. Didn’t know that. Must’ve been waaaay before my time.” A pause. “Are you kiddin’? The Oompa Loompa songs in the Johnny Depp version were so much better than those in the old version.” Maybe she was biased; the remake had been the first version of the movie she’d seen.
She shrugged. “Hey, what you do with your eyes is none of my business. I’m not one of those chicks who poke people’s eyes out with sharp things just because someone happens to stare in my direction. Too many people are touchy about staring.” She knew from experience, having used the one-sided staring contest method to annoy people.
She gave a nod when he promised he wouldn’t touch. “Good. Wouldn’t want to have to get my big brother to kick your ass.”
Maddie hummed a laugh when he detailed what his costume would look like. “I’d totally pay to see you wear a costume like that around here. That’d be awesome. Maybe you could get the Little Miss Perfect seamstress to make it for you.”
“Oh, I could be your sidekick, on one condition.” She rolled her eyes to look at the ceiling, mischief dancing in her expression. “Your superhero theme has to be a Justin Bieber song.” She smirked at him when he gave his real name. “Think I prefer calling you Sandwich Guy. Name’s Maddie.”
