❝ i know we'll make it anywhere, away from here. ❞

Being in a flesh body was so odd. Things had names and people had names. There wasn't just sensations and colors and emotions. There was so much more to it. Even standing there on the asteroid, she found herself wondering if any of her sisters had experienced before House made sure they died. Before he killed their precious Time Lords or Ladies. She hoped they did. It was such an experience.

"Ha, I found it!"

❝ the fire in your eyes keeps me alive, i'm sure in her you'll find the sanctuary. ❞

[ While the Doctor and his companion traveled the stars, there was always something happening on Earth. Most of the time it was hardly extraterrestrial. There was an organization, called the Sanctuary Network. Founded by Dr. Gregory Magnus and continued on by his daughter, Dr. Helen Magnus. It had lasted into the 21st Century and, unknown to Helen, would continue on.

The Sanctuary Network had numeral allies throughout it's history. The United Nations, sometimes grudgingly Torchwood, and several privately owned businesses. Therefore it did work hand in hand with the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, also known as U.N.I.T. The United Kingdom branch preferred a more "politically correct" rethinking of the name, but to the North American branches, it remained the same name.

Helen Magnus ended the call from U.N.I.T. Lt. Fred Mills, a life long friend to Helen, acted as the liaison between U.N.I.T. and the Sanctuary Network. When one needed the other (usually meaning they needed her help), he was the one to contact them. Possibly because he was the only member of U.N.I.T that Helen properly trusted in the 21st Century. Mainly due to the fact that she possibly had helped him receive the position.

With the cell over, Helen stood and moved to her desk to begin ordering tickets for the flight. ]

Kate didn't say anything once Helen sat down and began eating without a word. Her sunglasses were on, and Kate knew that was a way to try and hide her eyes. Not that Helen bothered to brush the tear streaks away, which Kate guessed as a good-bye, given the Doctor didn't come back with her. Instead Kate let them sit in silence, toying with her straw in her hands.

With a thud, the large bag hit the old oak desk. It was placed in a manner that it wouldn't cause the other objects to fall down, as if it had been placed down several times in the exact same spot. Just as the mail had been placed on the desk in the same manner. With a sigh, Helen Magnus flicked her long brunette hair over her shoulder and began to thumb through the mail.

"You are sure that she doesn't mind?"

"Of course I'm sure! Why do you always ask me that? It's not as if she's going to change her mind! In fact, most of the time, she is telling me to do less adventuring and more visiting."

Helen tilted her head to the side as he paused, looking back and forth as if to make sure he said it in the proper order. He nodded, seemingly satisfied with it, then turned on his heels and went back to the console. Helen walked up the glass ramp and leaned against the railing, watching him.

❝ so baby talk to me, like lovers do. walk with me, like lovers do. ❞

[ ooc: continued from here. ]

[ Helen tilted her head back slightly to look up at him. She honestly had no idea what sort of things Midnight 2 had. There could have been spas or attractions or whatever it was that humanity did in the future to entertain themselves. Not to mention that she could pass out at any moment (not that she was that drunk, but it had been a long day). After a moment, Helen smiled at him. ]

Right now, I think I prefer to just lay around. If that's entirely acceptable.

❝ 'cause they're calling, calling, calling me home, you show the lights that stop me. ❞

[ Work hardly ever changed, nor did the fact that Helen Magnus was a workaholic. She blamed it on being British, but it was for other reasons. It was why she only took a vacation every seven years. Once she stopped working it all came back and she preferred not to think about that.

Even though walking the halls in the early morning of the Sanctuary usually did bring it all to the front of her mind, even when she was staring at the tablets with the patient reports and schedule changes. Not to mention when reports and requests from the other Heads of Houses. ]

→ ❛ there's a mark you leave, like a love heart carved in a tree. ❜

Her ear pressed into the pillow as she stared at the wall, grip tight on the sheets as the heavy winter blankets pressed down onto her frame. The wind howled softly outside, but she could still hear the locks when they opened on the door below. He had gone out hours ago, surely he would be home soon.

And maybe - just maybe - he would tell her this time. Tell her of those things that made people shout at him and talk behind his back.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

[from here]

He looked from the tree to Helen and to the ribbon. "Is there an instructional guide on how to put these things up?" He asked. The Doctor never had to do anything like that before and he'd had enough trouble getting the tree to sit straight up in the stand.

The Doctor focused on Helen, the pensive look in her eyes as she focused on the tree. It truly amazed him how she could give so much with everything she did. She never performed anything halfheartedly. She put all of herself into her work, her family, everything.

And he admired her greatly for it.
