❝ hope you can keep up boys, cause believe me, i’m the bee's knees. ❞

[ The thing about knowing a time traveler was that when you decided to have a 'let's catch up because it's been a while since we've talked' meeting? You never know how much time has passed for him. You have no idea if he's changed his face or if the message was delivered at the right time. The cool thing about knowing a time traveler was that the meeting could happen whenever they wanted! Which, given Lynette enjoys a party now and then? She's decided the height of the Roaring Twenties. It's a time period she's never experienced in her lives.

Not to mention she wants to see what the parties are like that inspired 'The Great Gatsby.' Completely biased.

Lynette dresses for the time, making sure not to bring too much attention to herself as she makes her way through the large crowd. What is the quote from the book? 'I love big parties, there's something intimate about them.' Or something like that. It is pretty easy to discuss sensitive topics during huge parties because no one is paying attention. Turning her head around to try and spot a face that would belong to the Doctor, Lynette sits down at a table and crosses her legs.

So she has a milkshake at a party with liquor. She totally doesn't care. ]

❝ so when you get that feeling, keep dancing, 'cause i am the DJ. ❞

[ Lynette didn't do nervous. No one did it well, but, she really hated being nervous. It was a trait that belonged to her, not Xaiver, not Maelys, or the other two. Her: Lynette En-Smith. Xavier blew off nerves by running in like a bullheaded idiot, and Maelys just accepted nerves and moved with the flow. Lynette paced back and forth, bit on her nails, and tapped her foot. Plenty of her traits she could trace back to Xavier, given their stupid messed up passing, but she could tell what was her and what was him now. The time she had taken off to get her head fixed was needed and forced. Still, she needed it.

Now, she was ready go to back exploring the universe. That was a trait that she got from Xavier. Xavier did it in the military, she went around with the Last of the Time Lords. Xavier and her had different motives, but she knew it came from him. Maybe that's why she was worrying so much that the Doctor wouldn't show. Or that he would and wouldn't be the Doctor she knew.

Time is stupid and works so crazily that he could have had a different face now. Maybe it had been one life, two lives - five lives - since he last saw her. She really hoped that she sent the message she did at the right time. Bran had shown her how to telepathically send messages, but, it wasn't natural for her current life. Humans weren't really telepathic.

Lynette sighs and looks at her wrist watch. Bran had already gone, taking Red back to her time and home. Now she was stuck in the grand hall, waiting for the bow tie dork to show up. ]

"But the sound has just begun"

[While Dr. Magnus had her crew off and getting information about the men that had been affected by the craft and was doing...god only knows in that tent, the Doctor and Linette made their way back to the compound where UNIT had been temporarily stationed. The sun was high and hot and the Doctor, for a moment, regretted wearing his tweed jacket.

The Doctor took the keychain from his companion, twirling the metal ring around his finger before catching it. He quickly unlocked the door with a grin. He'd often broken into high security places, but he'd only ever needed his screwdriver. But to actually use a key. It tickled him.

Pocketing the key, he pushed the door open, allowing Linette to enter first. On the way over, he'd explained what he'd found at the crash site. How it had burned up on entry. Who had manufactured it. How he didn't have a clue who had actually sent it off.

The Doctor looked to Linette, a sigh causing his shoulders to rise and fall.]
And that's what you missed.

❝ i know we'll make it anywhere, away from here. ❞

Being in a flesh body was so odd. Things had names and people had names. There wasn't just sensations and colors and emotions. There was so much more to it. Even standing there on the asteroid, she found herself wondering if any of her sisters had experienced before House made sure they died. Before he killed their precious Time Lords or Ladies. She hoped they did. It was such an experience.

"Ha, I found it!"

❝ the fire in your eyes keeps me alive, i'm sure in her you'll find the sanctuary. ❞

[ While the Doctor and his companion traveled the stars, there was always something happening on Earth. Most of the time it was hardly extraterrestrial. There was an organization, called the Sanctuary Network. Founded by Dr. Gregory Magnus and continued on by his daughter, Dr. Helen Magnus. It had lasted into the 21st Century and, unknown to Helen, would continue on.

The Sanctuary Network had numeral allies throughout it's history. The United Nations, sometimes grudgingly Torchwood, and several privately owned businesses. Therefore it did work hand in hand with the United Nations Intelligence Taskforce, also known as U.N.I.T. The United Kingdom branch preferred a more "politically correct" rethinking of the name, but to the North American branches, it remained the same name.

Helen Magnus ended the call from U.N.I.T. Lt. Fred Mills, a life long friend to Helen, acted as the liaison between U.N.I.T. and the Sanctuary Network. When one needed the other (usually meaning they needed her help), he was the one to contact them. Possibly because he was the only member of U.N.I.T that Helen properly trusted in the 21st Century. Mainly due to the fact that she possibly had helped him receive the position.

With the cell over, Helen stood and moved to her desk to begin ordering tickets for the flight. ]

Kate didn't say anything once Helen sat down and began eating without a word. Her sunglasses were on, and Kate knew that was a way to try and hide her eyes. Not that Helen bothered to brush the tear streaks away, which Kate guessed as a good-bye, given the Doctor didn't come back with her. Instead Kate let them sit in silence, toying with her straw in her hands.

With a thud, the large bag hit the old oak desk. It was placed in a manner that it wouldn't cause the other objects to fall down, as if it had been placed down several times in the exact same spot. Just as the mail had been placed on the desk in the same manner. With a sigh, Helen Magnus flicked her long brunette hair over her shoulder and began to thumb through the mail.

"You are sure that she doesn't mind?"

"Of course I'm sure! Why do you always ask me that? It's not as if she's going to change her mind! In fact, most of the time, she is telling me to do less adventuring and more visiting."

Helen tilted her head to the side as he paused, looking back and forth as if to make sure he said it in the proper order. He nodded, seemingly satisfied with it, then turned on his heels and went back to the console. Helen walked up the glass ramp and leaned against the railing, watching him.

❝ so baby talk to me, like lovers do. walk with me, like lovers do. ❞

[ Helen tilted her head back slightly to look up at him. She honestly had no idea what sort of things Midnight 2 had. There could have been spas or attractions or whatever it was that humanity did in the future to entertain themselves. Not to mention that she could pass out at any moment (not that she was that drunk, but it had been a long day). After a moment, Helen smiled at him. ]

Right now, I think I prefer to just lay around. If that's entirely acceptable.

❝ one night, yea, one more time, thanks for the memories. ❞

[ Despite the amount of vents the little girl led the Doctor through, she was always humming and seemingly happy. Almost like she didn't notice the condition of the city around her. She sat up on her knees and pushed the grating open, slipping out of the vent and dropping down. She dusted off her clothes and motioned for the Doctor to follow still.

Then she pointed across the plaza. ]

Momma DeSare and us all live together here. But, you can't tell anyone! We're hiding from the bad men. [ She made a 'ssshh' gesture before taking the Doctor's hand again and leading him across the broken plaza, where there had obviously been an outbreak of violence some time ago. ] Big Sister is there too. She and Momma are going to want to talk to you. You're pretty special, Mister!

[ Once they crossed the plaza, she let go of his hand and stumbled down a broken flight of stairs, leading to what looked like an underground water way. Still motioning for him to follow, the little girl skipped over to a door and started to turn the large pressure wheel on it. It took a few minutes, but the door opened. She stepped inside. ]

[ Work hardly ever changed, nor did the fact that Helen Magnus was a workaholic. She blamed it on being British, but it was for other reasons. It was why she only took a vacation every seven years. Once she stopped working it all came back and she preferred not to think about that.

Even though walking the halls in the early morning of the Sanctuary usually did bring it all to the front of her mind, even when she was staring at the tablets with the patient reports and schedule changes. Not to mention when reports and requests from the other Heads of Houses. ]

[ Linette pushed herself off the railing of the TARDIS and against the console's rim. Really, 1773 Virgina? She knew that the history of her own country was pretty important, especially around the Fourth of July, but she signed on to see places in the stars she had never seen before. Alright, she just more signed on because she was homeless, but that wasn't the point. ]

Let's go somewhere new. You know, don't you have a big-red-button that's labeled random or something? [ She pointed to the yellow and red buttons on the console. ] God sakes, you have ketchup and mustard on here, Doc.

Her ear pressed into the pillow as she stared at the wall, grip tight on the sheets as the heavy winter blankets pressed down onto her frame. The wind howled softly outside, but she could still hear the locks when they opened on the door below. He had gone out hours ago, surely he would be home soon.

And maybe - just maybe - he would tell her this time. Tell her of those things that made people shout at him and talk behind his back.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

[from here]

He looked from the tree to Helen and to the ribbon. "Is there an instructional guide on how to put these things up?" He asked. The Doctor never had to do anything like that before and he'd had enough trouble getting the tree to sit straight up in the stand.

The Doctor focused on Helen, the pensive look in her eyes as she focused on the tree. It truly amazed him how she could give so much with everything she did. She never performed anything halfheartedly. She put all of herself into her work, her family, everything.

And he admired her greatly for it.

I take it that means you've never seen a business give out baskets.

[ Cham twirled his fingers around to gesture to the area around them. As in, the entire empty nightclub. Technically, they weren't open yet. But, Magnus's people always got special treatment. For reasons Cham never said. ]

This? This is a business. I've got a legitimate business here! And, the not-so-legitimate one. But, my illegal doings help keep you and your boss informed. I think that it merits a gift basket.

"C'mon, Lin, it's a party! That's what you do at parties."

❝ it's the perfect time of year, somewhere far away from here. ❞

[ Saturday nights at the biggest San Fransisco bar, The Brick Yard, were always insanely busy. She had only tagged along because she was filling in for the band's guitarist while she was on maternity leave. Even then they weren't doing a lot of performing that night. Kasey was off working on whatever deal she was trying to do with her underground business, while Linette Smith was hitting up the pool table.

And kicking ass.

Admittedly, most the guys were drunk. It wasn't really a fair match.

She sighed, leaning against her pole and looking around at the bar. What she liked about this one was, despite how busy it was, it was never loud or obnoxious. It was a calming social environment. Until someone got thrown out for being too drunk. That was her entertainment for the evening. So far only one person had been escorted out. She was almost disappointed. ]
