Kitten's New Home [really, really ancient Egypt] (tag: Bast, Anubis)
The trip back to Aset's temple took longer than usual, mostly because the little goddess with her was constantly distracted by anything that moved. Be it insect, fish in the Nile, or just the wind catching the reeds, her curiosity and restless nature just seemed to take over. Aset could tell she was going to have her hands full, but she also knew it was going to be worth it.
From the moment Aset had found the young Bast among the reeds, she'd begun to formulate a plan. It had taken a little convincing, but she'd persuaded the little kitten-like creature to accompany her. She would contact the girl's father soon enough to see what kind of arrangements could be made. Atum was a busy god, far too busy to properly raise a young child, much less a girl. Her appearance and behavior were already proof of that. What she needed was a mother.
Bast was also greatly in need of love, nurturing, rules, structure, discipline, and at the moment, a good bath. At the thought Aset looked down again at the youngster, whose hand was in her own. For the moment. Aset already knew that wasn't about to last very long. She took in the grubby face, noting there was beauty below all the dirt. Her hair was a disaster, and it would likely take more patience than either of them had to get it into a manageable state on the first go. A bath would be trouble enough, certainly. Aset hoped her personal bath would be enough to spark the girl's interest. It was large enough they could find a way to make it a game. Aset doubted Bast lacked imagination.
"Look, Bast, there it is." Aset pointed out her temple, gleaming in the distance. "We'll be there very soon. Are you getting hungry?" An easy question. Small children who had been playing heavily were always hungry.
Aset couldn't help but wonder what the boys would think of Bast. They were both very sweet, and she knew they would accept her if only because she did. But she really hoped they would get along. Her mouth curved in a smile at the thought- the jackal, the hawk, and the cat. Oh, what had she gotten herself into?
"What do you think of my temple? Do you think it's pretty?"
