Isis was about to agree to the little girl's suggestion, if only to get them to the temple without further distraction, when she caught the sound of Anpu's approach.
Oh dear.
She would have preferred getting Bast actually into the house before introducing her to its other occupants. Heru and Anpu were good boys, but they were still boys. Something Bast was clearly not going to be keen on. At least not at first. But then she realized he was in his jackal form and thought perhaps that might be an even better way to introduce them, rather than as clean, well-behaved boys.
"Hold a moment, Bast. Someone is coming I think you would like to meet." The young kitten clearly was drawn to animals. Perhaps the jackal would play with her a bit, giving her further desire for life in the Queen's home.
"It's alright, Anpu," she called to the halted jackal. Her adopted son had clearly been surprised by the child at her side. "This is Bast, and she was just suggesting a race."
