WHO: Nathan and Seniors + friends (everyone basically)
WHAT: Pre-Graduation party
WHERE: Howard guest house
WHEN: Saturday, May 13th; starting at 8 PM (forward dated)
RATING: TBD
STATUS: In progress

Nathan loved the family guest house. He would often visit there to get away from his parents and his brother. It was a two-story 6 bedroom, 3 bath with a large kitchen that was within walking distance from one of the beaches that Frye Island had to offer. His favorite thing about the place was that it had a large deck upstairs that you could look out from and see the water even at night. It was just so relaxing there, and he couldn't think of any place better to hold a party. The place had only been somewhat decorated for the occasion, mostly the exterior so people could find it easily, but not much. The great thing was that if anything had been broken during the event it was easily replaceable. Some of Johnny's larger equipment was still setup in the house so the evening's DJ didn't have to lug it back and forth. The drink station was ready and prepared to be attacked by thirsty teens; the pizza place was also on standby in case they ran out of food and needed more. Nathan Howard wasn't sure how tonight would end but he knew it would be worth it.

As the doorbell rang and the first guests began to arrive, Nathan flung the large double doors open. Seeing more than he would've expected at first, he grinned widely. "My friends, welcome to my home and to the rest of our lives!"

Savannah had been one of the first to arrive. By nature, she was a prompt person, and, tonight, it showed. Following Nathan's directions had been easy, and she was genuinely surprised to see the lavish guest house which would be hosting their soiree.

Having followed Nathan's advice to dress casually, Savannah had worn an outfit that teetered on the edge of something more. To celebrate the warm weather that was slowly returning to the island, she had chosen to wear a light top whose scoop neck and split sleeves gave the fitted shirt a stylish impression where there otherwise was none. The casual gray of the shirt stood out against the dark blue jeans she wore. A pair of simple black worn flip-flops revealed toe nails painted the same glossy opalescent as her fingernails. Her dark hair was held into a loose knot at the base of her skull with a pair of sticks.

"Hi, Nathan," she greeted as she stepped over the threshold and into the guest house.

There was a small tug on the corner of one of Savannah's sleeves though as the group started heading in with the other Sullivan sticking to the back of the crowd until they were mostly inside. "Well don't you look nice tonight?" He was going to be putting his multitasking skills to the task with trying to keep half an eye on his sister while also being there to see Penny. For the most part he was fairly sure Savannah could take care of herself just fine. This just made the commute all the faster if she did need him.

He had just tossed on a t-shirt out of the "actually clean laundry" pile (as opposed to the "smells alright to wear again" pile), a light jacket, and jeans. Of course there was always his notepad, but that was going to be kept at a minimum tonight. At least he hoped as much for the sake of the seniors who were just wanting to enjoy their first day of freedom.

Savannah half-turned, then smiled to see her older brother. Her eyebrows rose skeptically at his compliment, and she laughed. "Not that nice," she disagreed self-consciously, though it was nice to hear. She was sure Nathan would notice - hoped so, anyway.

"Aren't you a little old to be crashing a high school party?" she teased. She didn't mind seeing him here, but she was surprised by his presence. "You aren't working, are you?"

Nathan stood by the doors to greet his guests, flashing his trademark smile, as they started to fill into the empty house. He gave directions towards the various bathrooms in the house as well as the kitchen where the essentials of the evening were provided. He wasn't exactly shocked at the turn out but he was impressed at how many had come so far, and the night was yet to begin.

Most simply had nodded, said hello, and gave a smile before as they passed him but one voice caught his attention as she actually used his name. "Hi," he said in return, grinning widely. He was about to say more before another guy came up behind Savannah and tugged on shirt. His first thought was to get protective but then he recognized him in her family photos as her brother. "I was thinking the same thing..." he agreed as he glanced her over a second before looking back to her brother, "Sebastian?" Nathan extended his hand, "I don't think we've officially met but Savannah has told me a few things about you. All good, of course."

He laughed a little bit as she teased her brother, "Nonsense. Everyone is welcome tonight. You're welcome to join us if you want to stay."

"You do look nice... And I'm with the DJ's assistant. I can't help it was left open invitation." True, he was probably going to be the oldest person there tonight, but it could prove rather interesting material for later. He tried to avoid her other question though about whether or not he was working and hoped it would just go that he was being an assistant to the assistant. Or something that didn't just blow his cover. He wasn't planning on writing anything, but it was always good to have your eyes open.

"Bast," he corrected before reaching out to shake Nathan's hand. "At least for the people I like. I'll tell you if you should change that to "Sullivan"." He looked over Nathan well though and perhaps squeezing a little harder than he should. Thankfully there didn't seem to be any great revelation happening. One less extremely-obvious power that he knew in an instant on this island at least. "And I've heard plenty about you." Good, bad and otherwise like any good reporter.

Savannah rolled her eyes good-naturedly, more amused by her brother's comments than threatened or embarrassed by them. After all, it was Bast being Bast -- and, even though she had seen a variety of emotions from him, she always imagined this side of him to be like an angry kitten protecting its ball of yarn.

Letting the question of his purpose being there go for the time being, she said instead, as seriously as she could muster, "Now, Bast, you're old enough to make mature choices regarding alcohol. But if you need a ride home, I want you to know you can always call me."

When Bast mentioned being with the DJ's assistant, he realized that Johnny must've invited friends. It was perfectly acceptable but he didn't realize it would lead to Savannah's brother getting involved. It really was a small island, not that he could ever forget it. Nathan could handle himself so there shouldn't have been any problems on his end. "Are you now? I might as well have invited you myself then. As I said, you're welcome to stay for as long as you like. My house is your house." He only hoped his invitation wouldn't be blowing up in his face.

"I'm happy to know on your good side," he grinned. "Call me Nathan, or Nate if you like." As they squeezed each others' hands, he added an equal amount of pressure that Bast was giving him. "I'm sure it's all deserved but hopefully nothing too personal. I'd like to think I can still have some secrets."

Mia & Sam
[info]in_focus
2011-05-16 03:53 am UTC (link)
When your ex-boyfriend called and asked for your best friend's phone number so that he could ask her out on a date, alcohol was welcomed. Sure, it had been delayed by a few days, and as far as Mia knew, nothing had happened between them at all yet, but Mia had been watching the two of them like a hawk. She'd seen the flirting comments George had made in her journal, regardless of how she had assured Mia she hadn't meant anything by it. And she certainly saw the way Tino kept looking at her, like he was trying to come up with a way to approach her. She hated him for it.

If Tino was at the party, Mia had been fortunate enough not to run into him yet. In her current state- drunk, but not plastered- she probably would have said or done something she'd regret, though (let's be honest) that seemed to happen around him regardless of her sobriety. There was a part of her, though, that was still looking for him, but she spotted someone else instead.

"Sam!" she exclaimed a little too loudly, making her way over to him in her purple sundress, red solo cup in hand. Mia wasn't a beer girl; it was mixed drinks or nothing for her. "Hi!" Her free arm instantly shifted around his middle to hug him.

Alcohol was also welcomed when you'd just escaped from something completely bizarre. Sam wasn't much of a drinker, but he was pretty big and could handle more than a smaller guy. That said he was only about two and a half beers in. Not too bad.

He doubted he'd run into Emily, but that was neither here nor there. It wouldn't be too weird, and he wasn't heart broken. But if it was all the same to him, he was hoping he wouldn't bump into her anyway, because he was trying to take Mia's advice and be single. And enjoy it. Before someone snatched him up again. The thought made him crack a little smile. He didn't exactly believe there was a line of girls waiting to snatch him up the minute he was free, but it was a nice notion, he supposed.

Speak of the devil--in the nicest way possible, of course--there she was! Sam returned the one arm hug with one of his own. "Hey! You're here!" He grinned, genuinely glad to see her.

It became readily apparent that Mia was much more drunk than Sam was. Still, she was much too light-hearted to care. Mia was proud to say that she was, generally speaking, a happy drunk. She was a definite giggler, and, unfortunately for the sober people (or perhaps fortunately in some cases), a bit more touchy-feely than usual.

"Of course I'm here!" she replied with a soft giggle. "I told you I would be! I didn't know if you were going to show, though! I'm glad you did!" She maintained their close proximity even as their hug ended. "You look niiice." He could've shown up in cut off jeans with a wife beater and cowboy boots and Mia probably would've said the same thing at this point.

Perhaps after a few more beers or a losing round of beer-pong (which was pretty likely, considering his vision was better at long distances) he'd be about where she was. He considered himself a pretty happy drunk as well unless he had reason not to be.

"Hey, I said I'd be here too." He reminded her, "Probably." He gave her a grin. At her compliment he glanced down at his outfit. Pretty standard. Old (but thankfully clean) Led Zepplin tee shirt (which had belonged to his dad), jeans and tennis shoes. Nothing special. "Thanks? You look pretty great yourself." But she really did. And he meant it, being the slightly more sober of the two of them.

Mia beamed at his answer. She had absolutely been fishing for a compliment, and she was gleeful that she'd gotten it. "Yeah, you did," she agreed, still grinning. "But I wasn't sure you would. You don't seem like someone who parties that much." Even drunk, Mia realized that could be taken badly, and she quickly back-tracked. "Not that, like, you know, you're not cool or anything because you totally are." She laughed at herself. "I mean, you just seem sort of... chill?" Her cheeks had turned a light shade of pink. "Oh man, I am totally babbling!" She took another sip of her drink. Yeah, that would help. More liquor!

Sam laughed, "Nah, you're right." He shrugged and downed the second half of his beer, feeling suddenly like he must be really behind as far as the level of tipsy around there went. He supposed he couldn't speak for everyone else, but at the very least, Mia was drunker then him, and being the sober teenager at a party was a little like being a zebra in a room of lions. Without the slaughter, but with all the awkward and the awareness that you were very very different.

"Guess I don't get out much." He shrugged again and shook his head, "It's okay. I don't talk much, so you can fill in the gaps, it's cool." He gave her a small encouraging smile. It was kind of adorable when she blushed.

After debating with herself for a while Emily decided to end up going to the Senior Party. Sitting in her room by herself moping over how she was having no luck getting over Jacen and he feelings for Sam she wasn't so sure she could trust wasn't doing her any good. She needed to get out, see people, get in a party mood. Her birthday was in four days she should be happy. She's one year closer to being able to finally move away from her father. Once she entered the party she was a little overwhelmed by the amount of people there. She recognized a few, but just like Josie's party they didn't really seem her crowd...just great. Knowing her luck once again some strange popular boy would come over and flirt with her because they felt bad for her or found it funny how much she blushed.

She wandered around the party for a bit trying to see if there was anyone she knew that she could cling to for the remainder of the party. Sure she had passed many people she knew, but no one she wanted to stick to for the whole night. Why did she even come, this was stupid. Then her eyes landed on someone she normally wouldn't mind sticking by for the rest of the night, but right now she couldn't. Sam. He was here. Well of course he was here, Senior, hello? He was talking to Mia Bailey...well it actually looked like they were more than talking. She knew that body language. They were flirting. Emily felt her heart drop. She couldn't bear to watch and made a beeline for the table where they were serving drinks.

This was so stupid. Why was she so upset, she told him not to pursue someone, she said go for it for goodness sake. She said she's be supportive. Having a mini freak out was not being supportive. She just thought it was a little soon, or maybe that this is just the first one and others will be easier. Also Mia was a nice girl...and a cheerleader. Cheerleader and the jock. They fit. The nature loving poetry writing girl and the jock, didn't make sense. Even though they seemed to fit, they didn't, it was all a lie.

Emily once again focused on the table in front of her. She had no idea what was in the red cup, but she bet it was alcoholic and maybe drinking herself into a stupor would help. So without thinking too much of it she quickly downed the drink. Yep, definitely alcoholic and the bite of the alcohol burned her throat, but she chest didn't hurt as much. She glanced back to see Sam and Mia again and grabbed another cup and did the same.

"Careful how much of that stuff you drink. It could probably take the paint off of the walls." Antonio was probably just a little too old for this party, but then there was nothing else to do tonight. He could always seem if Tino showed up and try to keep him from causing a scene. At least if he was a party crasher, he was a friendly one who was keeping to the soda. So unfortunately for Emily it was the same boy showing up, this time without a camera around. Some people would probably want pictures of this, but none of them seemed like something he wanted his mom seeing. "Seriously, I don't think anyone around here knows how to mix a drink and just want the quickest way to a buzz."

He looked around a little, trying to see if there was anyone heading over. "Here by yourself then, green eyes?"

Emily had just grabbed another drink when a voice broke through. She froze just as she was about to bring the drink to her lips. She knew that voice. She turned and saw that is was exactly who she thought it was. Toni Spinelli. He was not the person she really wanted to talk to tonight. Actually...she really wasn't wanting to talk to anyone right now. She just wanted to get drunk and forget everything. Feel wonderfully numb. She gave him a slightly irritated look and tossed the drink back,

"Well, if it makes me forget everything then it's perfect. I'm not really drinking it for the wonderful flavor or anything." She brushed some hair behind her ear as she threw the empty cup away and rolled her eyes at his compliment, "So...who sent you over this time. Gonna 'flirt' with me again, because I really am not in the mood."

"What could really be so bad that you would need to try and drink to forget about it? And just for the record, you kind of strike me as more Arbor Mist than Absolut if you're going to go around drinking for flavor." Then he also didn't think Emily looked like the type to go around drinking a lot. Perhaps he was mistaken about that though. It certainly wouldn't be the first time he was wrong about a girl. Especially one who looked so sweet and potentially innocent. She could stay that way too as far as he was really concerned.

"Absolutely no one. I am over here completely of my own free will and desire. You just looked a little lonely and like you were chugging those down a little bit too fast. I'm just here at the moment to make sure you don't trip over thin air and break that lovely nose. Break it, and it will never quite look the same."

Emily decided to try whatever concoction was in the green cups now and just traced the rim of the cup with her index finger. She rolled her eyes not really wanting to explain her behavior to anyone, she shouldn't have to. "Well since I'm wanting to forget about it I don't really want to talk about it." However against her will her eyes flicked over to Sam and Mia before turning away and downing the drink in the cup. She coughed a little bit in surprise. Then she saw the bottle filling up the green cups. Spiced Rum? She'd have to work up to that one. Emily actually gave a sad little laugh at his comment about drinking for flavor, "I was being sarcastic. I want to make everything go away as fast as I can."

Emily shrugged as he said that. Just like at Josie's party she didn't really believe him, but honestly, who would send him over. She glanced around and barely recognized anyone that she knew better than in passing. Well other that Sam and Mia that is, but they seemed a bit to distracted to worry about her. She started to sip on another one of the blue cups, which apparently they started mixing with fruit punch. "I'm sure you can find someone much more exciting and willing than myself. I'm not that drunk...yet." She gave him a little smile at his concern. She had meant it at Josie's party when she said he wasn't half bad. He was an okay guy when he chose to show it. "Well thanks for your concern, I am a little lonely, once again not really my crowd," she swirled the drink in her cup, "and I'm trying to get this into my system as quick as I can." When he mentioned her breaking her lovely nose she gave a confused look and touched her nose. Lovely? She never really thought that her nose was anything special. "I'll be careful. As I said, I'm not that drunk...yet."

"So," she paused finishing up her drink, "what are you doing here? Thought you'd be over the high school parties?"

Antonio wasn't sure he really wanted to know what was going in the cups. The less he knew, the less he had to deny later when his mom possibly asked him what he had been up to. "Alright then. No mentioning what you're trying to forget so much. You just kind of look like someone ran over your dog. And considering I'm usually a fan of dogs, that would also make me a little sad to know." Maybe as long as it wasn't just one that liked trying to rip your face off for fun.

"You really need to start finding your crowd then if this one isn't cheering you up a bit." Then he also didn't know that she hadn't come here all sad, but that it was a result of the party crowd making her sad. "Or find what makes you happy. And high school parties are usually the fun ones that don't involve coffee and discussing Alexander Pope." He finished off his straight coke though before tossing his cup into the garbage. "Come on and dance with me. I'm not going to be satisfied until I get one real smile out of you." He grinned a little bit while offering her a hand.

Savannah & Nathan

Savannah had drifted through the party, pausing to talk with the rest of the seniors. Many were going to Hobbs -- Savannah among them, although it hadn't even been in her top 5 choices -- and the rest were working. It certainly wasn't the tearful parting they made it out to be in stories and on television.

Savannah had just left the dinner table, where she had been munching on a piece of pizza, and she was just now moving towards the beverage table. It was still early enough in the party that most people were still sober, although there were always a few at every party... Selecting a beer at random -- not her first, although she was drinking at a slower, more casual rate than some -- she lifted the glass to her lips and turned, scanning the crowd for whom she should talk to next.

Being the host of the party generally came with responsibilities, especially if one wanted it to go well and even be remembered. After Nathan had greeted all the guests by the door, he went to take care of some of those duties. Making sure Johnny the DJ had everything he needed, they had plenty of appropriate food and beverage so far, and perhaps mingling with some of his guests, doing a little flirting. Once it all seemed to settle in, Nathan could start to actually enjoy himself. That was a time he couldn't get enough of.

He made his way through each room before Savannah caught his eye again. He couldn't help but smirk just a bit and moved through the crowd just so she couldn't see him. He slipped up behind her and leaned in closely to her ear. "Enjoying yourself?"

His stealthy approach had the desired affect. Eyes on the crowd and ears on the music, Savannah was momentarily in her own little world. Head bobbing lightly to the music, foot tapping out the beat, she was oblivious to the young man sneaking up behind her...

So when his voice was suddenly in her ear, Savannah jumped slightly with a startled cry already blending with a laugh. Turning, she gave him a scolding look. "You jerk!" she accused with a grin. "I almost dumped my beer down my shirt!" It was only by luck alone she hadn't; the liquid had rolled in the cup and sloshed a little over the lip, but it mostly stayed where it belonged.

Shifting her drink from one hand to the other, she lifted her hand to her mouth, lips gently sucking off the drink that had spilled onto her fingertips.

Nathan bit into his bottom lip a little as he laughed before smirking and thrusting up an eyebrow. "Sorry.. but I can't say show that could be a negative," glancing her over a bit, "but you do look nice tonight in all honesty." He grabbed her a napkin from the table and offered it to her before he noticed her cleaning her fingers with her mouth. For some reason he couldn't help finding it at least somewhat attractive though he normally didn't think this way. Ironically, he had not yet had a drop to drink which would likely be shortly remedied.

"Thanks for coming. You're making it easier for me to enjoy myself, even though I probably could've found a way if I really tried hard enough."

Savannah usually didn't even eat with her fingers, much less sucked anything off them... But it was better than wiping them off on her clothes or dripping all over the place. Her face brightened when she saw the napkin, and she set her glass down momentarily to finish cleaning up.

"Thank you! And I'm glad you noticed," she answered with a smirk of her own. Discarding the napkin in the nearby bin, she turned to address him fully again.

"You throw a good party," she complimented. "Good food, good music, beer... All the things a girl needs. You're not still working, are you?" Pausing she gestured around with her free hand. "Or can I steal you for a little while?"

As Savannah moved to toss the napkin away, Nathan grabbed a beer in one of the plastic cups and started to sip from it. "I aim to please," he grinned before taking in a mouthful and swallowing. "A host's work is never done but I think I can take a break if the lady requests.." He stood next to her and looked out into the crowd then back to her, "Did you have anything in mind?"
