They are very old, but their minds are still strong. Very strong. Mother says it could end very shortly, though, especially with me at school. I do not understand why she thinks my being at school will effect them but it is what she says. I am not always certain what everyone knows and does not know. When I arrived, no one knew Father was Unwound. They were very upset at the news. But I did not know they did not know.

[ ... ] That sounds very unpleasant. But at the same time it is a thing that is not different across the worlds- a need for some or most to protect family. Never all, though.

Do Careers want to be chosen?

I wouldn't wish ill on my family, but I hope you are free from their thumb before long. I suppose it's possible some have been pushed into it by their parents, but usually they do, yes. Some will even volunteer to take the place of someone else from their district. There were four Careers in my games. They generally work together, too, until the end. They're a force to be reckoned with.
