ATTN DEs: Training and stuff!

All right - so I know a lot of people were coming on Saturday to the Nott's to do duelling stuff. If you were, go ahead and feel free to talk about what happened in the comments.

Basically when your character arrived, they'd have been directed to the side yard here by Nott family house elves. This was a business time, so they would have been paired off, if Patrice had not done so already, and then given thirty minutes or so to duel with that person. Patrice, and possibly any other IC DEs that happened to be there, would have circulated among the attendees and given advice, pointers, and instruction in the Dark Arts, particularly unforgivables and other spells along those lines. After thirty minutes they would have probably all just circulated to the right, or something like that, so depending on how many people were actually there your character would have probably interacted with most of the other characters there.

So, basically below maybe say if you were there today, if there were any spells or items your character struggled with, and feel free to work out which character won duels in a pairing or whatever.

Oh, and at about the halfway point basil water would have been provided for the guests, but nothing fancier. Patrice was all business today >:]

travel in the wizarding world!

I'll probably end up turning this into a gdoc.

But basically, since it's coming up in game a lot, here's how you travel from country-to-country in the wizarding world:

- apparation within the isles (england, wales, scotland, ireland, northern ireland) is fine, as long as you don't over-extend yourself.
- likewise, flooing within the isles is fine and only monitored so much as floo ... is monitored.
- portkeys within the isles are relatively easy to get, but you still need to go through stuff.

- international travel is different
- all countries (and for sake of ease, the isles are their own country) have an international border set up and a magicustoms station. if you try to apparate or floo from one country to another, you'll automatically be bounced to the magicustoms station for the country you're trying to leave. from there, you can floo / apparate (within reasonable distances) / portkey to the magicustoms station for the country you're going to. from there, once you pass through customs, you can go wherever the hell you want within the country, within reason.


I haven't decided yet who exactly (in terms of ministry department) runs magicustoms. right now it's a toss up between International Magical Cooperation and Magical Transportation. It might just be a shared thing. idk yet. I will think on it when I can brain, and get back to y'all. but this is just sort of a JSYK! kinda thing.

cauldron explosion!

Today at about 1:30 pm, there was an explosion at the cauldron shoppe on Diagon Alley. There are no serious injuries, though a couple of shop assistants are taken to St. Mungo's for mildly moderate injuries sustained in the explosion.

Hitwizards investigate, but preliminary reports show it to be just an accident. There'll be an article in the prophet tomorrow, but since it's a Sunday afternoon, people might be out and about in Diagon and witness the explosion.
