Greetings. I am Data.

I tire of being abducted by collectors, and I regret to inform you that I will be making my leave shortly.

But in the event that you should you require my aid during these peculiar atmospheric conditions, I am willing to temporarily postpone my attempts to return to the Enterprise.

I've got stories, but I'm not really inclined to put them down. My secretary, Ellie, was better at that part. She did suggest me recording holotapes though. I'm not sure anything meaningful would come of it.

Android, huh. Well, pleasure to meet another created life-form. I'm a Synthetic Humanoid myself, usually shortened to 'Synth'. Just a prototype, though, sometime after I was binned they worked out how to make better passing replicas.

I think your secretary is correct. Your should dictate your stories and have someone else write them down for you.

Until recently, I was the only one of my kind.

I'm a detective with the downloaded memories of a deceased cop. Nobody wants to hear my stories.

I can empathize with that. I'm the only functional being between robotic automatons and human impersonators in my world, as far as I know. And half the ones who pass as human were never told they were anything else.

You are incorrect. Captain Picard seems to be very fond of the detective noir genre, and I am an avid admirer of a certain Victorian-era detective. We both frequently visit the holodeck to recreate their stories.

To what end?

There's a difference between fiction and real experience. I don't have the talent to gloss up the details of the things I've seen, or how downloaded. I don't think I'd want to.

No idea. An end? I never had the grace of being explained, let alone why I woke up in a post=nuclear garbage dump. All I've got it a pretty stable skeletal structure and the memories of a man who's been dead for centuries to indicate how I interact.

If I had an end I think I stumbled past it. These days I just try to live how the original Valentine might've. It's not like I have any better ideas.
