Oh dear...
Who: Maeko, Smisa
What: I don't even...
Where: Girls' dorm bathrooms.
When: Lunchtime.
Why: Communication issues and also one of them is a shadow.

Maeko vaguely remembered something that Kozue had mentionned about using that room to skip tennis practice. Using it to cut class was probably a little worse. She'd sat down and stared hard at maths handouts and waited for lunch, when she could conceivably sneak back out of school.

Lunch came but not before maths had lost its great mind-focussing elsewhere power and those hand shadows had forcefully stopped her from scratching her hands again. She escaped school with the crowd who were going home for lunch and ran back to the dorm. She dashed into the closest bathroom, she needed to change her bandages again before anything else.

Maeko did not want touching. At all. At the very least not until she was sure that Misaki was at a safe distance. If she'd yet managed to grasp the whole relationships require communication thing then she might have expressed this. As it was she just froze and looked panicked and moved back very quickly.

Maeko's hands had been healing well enough for having the skin peeled off them in places but were raw and weeping and clearly not yet in a state where they should be left without proper dressing. one of her hands had reopenned again, which she decided to blame on that panic back there. Which was untrue but oh well.

"I don't think we should miss much, it's not too far out of the way..." She said quietly, pulling her hands back.

Kanaye noticed how quickly she moved back and bowed. "Sorry, Maeko-chan! I'm just glad you are safe, really, but I was an idiot. Please forgive me!" he said quickly and panicky.

Kanaye winced at her hands. It looked like it hurt, and it was all Misaki's fault. He clenched his hands repeatably. He couldn't wait til he could kick the crap out of her shadow. "All right, Maeko-chan, let's..." he started before he noticed Keiichi coming along. Kanaye sighed and turned to Maeko. "Go on without me, alright? I'm probably gonna need to explain some things to Keiichi-san." he said, walking over to the other boy.

Maeko nodded and scurried off in the direction of the pharmacy, not particularly sure about being on her own but very, very sure about getting as far away from the dorms as possible.

Renju was a sprinter, not a marathon runner, and she'd had to slow down to catch her breath several times trying to get to the dorms. By the time she'd gotten there, gotten up to her room, dropped off her satchel, and gotten her weapons, almost everyone had gotten there ahead of her.

She hadn't gotten any texts saying that all was well, though, so for all she knew, it wasn't over yet. Misaki's Shadow could still be here somewhere, so she tread carefully, keeping one of the kama at hand and the other on her phone, just in case.

It was a stroke of luck (whether good or bad she really couldn't say), then, that she happened to take the precise set of turns that led her right to Tom, Nayuki, and... oh. There was Misaki.

Misaki glanced up and waved at her, "OH Renju chan! Hello, come to help your boyfriend out? He's being rather rude to me today! So is Nayuki-sempai. And I thought we were all friends."

She crossed her arms and stared at them, "Well are you all going to just stand there, or are you going to play with me?"

Tom tensed. Renju was here, why was Renju here? He'd been trying not to think about the other girl all afternoon and she was here.

"I'm not her boyfriend!" He said rather suddenly.

Tom shook his head to clear it.

"Sonozaki, take... ummm..." Tom realized he didn't actually know the new kids name, or if he did he couldn't recall it at the moment.

"Both of you, Butterfly room now. The team is gathering. I'm not willing to let the shadow wander unsupervised. I'll catch up later."

He gave the shadow a look, then reached down to his shoulder bag and slipped out his rope.

"You wanna play? Let's play."

Misaki gave a happy giggle, "Awww but we can't play with just the two of us...I know...I'll get some more people to play with."

She headed for the window and raised it up, "Wow...it's a drop from here, but I think I can make it."

"He's not my..."

Okay, so apparently everyone seemed to have some bizarre delusion about her relationship status these days. This one could at least be excused due to being a Shadow.

Maybe.

Remembering what Kozue had said, she looked at Tom sharply, something flashing in her eyes. "You're not going to deal with this alone." It was quite clearly a statement, not a question., and her expression made it clear that she'd brook no argument about the matter. She glanced back to look at Nayuki, and... noticed something at the corner of her vision. Butterflies? Even if he had the potential to be a Persona-user, though, that didn't make it any less dangerous for him. "Tonbo-san, you should leave."

When she looked back up, the Shadow was... about to climb out the window? She hadn't expected that...

Nayuki ignored the familiar broad-shouldered man in front of him and began to sidestep to the nearest windowsill. Knowing the dormitory layout from outside, there was enough space on the ledges to traverse. But, the upperclassman was right. This Fake Misaki wasn't going to tell him where Aoi-san is. "I'm Aoi-san's friend... not yours." With the appearance of Renju, he began to feel a false sense of security. "Whatever sempai is planning, I hope he does it now while I'm keeping that shadow talking."

After the short banter on questionable relationships, he interrupted Shadow Misaki once again. "What happened to Aoi-san?" He was told of the conditions that would trigger a cross into Paradise, and the inevitable surfacing of their Doppelgangers. He began fearing the worst for Misaki. "What happened back at the Tanabata Festival?!"

Just the other day, the pink-haired kouhai assured him that she would try to patch things up with her precious person. She said she'd do it during Tanabata. It was the entire reason why he attended the Festival in the first place. She was going to be busy with work, so he came out to cover for her and buy her the time she needed to patch things up with her friend. His train of thought was interrupted when suddenly, the Shadow started for the windows herself. "Rats... did she see right through me?" He flashes a glare at Thomas and Renju as try to send him away, "I'm sorry. But, I'm not leaving until she tells me what happened. Whatever you two are trying to pull, you better do it now."

He turn his attention back to the Shadow, and slides the nearby window open as well. "You're not running away."

Tom grabbed Nayuki, pulling him back.

"Persona user or no, you don't have experience dealing with someones Shadow. You need to get with the team, and start working on a plan. And I..."

Tom looked back at Renju and his whole posture deflated for a moment. But he took a breath, and tried to steady himself, tried to push it away and just couldn't.

"She went after Akuba with a knife. I can't let her run free, when she could hurt someone."

He looked out of the window, and then back to Renju. Almost desperate for her to be okay with this.

"I have to go."

Misaki jumped out the window, and landed gently on the ground, since it was only one floor. She smiled some at the group at the window and pushed back her hair. "So are you going to come play with me? Hummm I know. Hide and go seek. Your it Tom-san!"

Seeing Nayuki run by, Masami stopped. "Head for the butterly room,' she told Toshi, "I'm going back in. I have to make sure Tonbo-san doesn't get hurt." And with that, she turned back.

She found Nayuki, Tom, and Renju just in time to see Misaki's shadow jump out the window. "It's good to see you are all OK."

"Let go!" Nayuki shakes off Tom's hold, "That thing hasn't answered my questions yet!" With all of the recent information rushing through his head, he grit his teeth. "It all makes sense now. Everything she said during the P.A. Incident. The things she told me in the flower shop. What Akuba-san and Ikeda-san told me about this whole struggle." He points toward Shadow Misaki, while still keeping his gaze on Tom. "That thing could have been avoided!" He wasn't exactly sure why he's getting angry at his present company, but he was starting to think that they could have had the chance to subvert this new development.

Before he could do anything else, though, Shadow Misaki decided to jump out the window. "Hey! I'm not done talking to you!" Slinging his satchel over his shoulder, he heads for the nearest window and starts scaling it to follow the doppelganger. "She's getting away!"

Shadow Misaki just bowed some and blew a quick kiss to them. "Sorry to not want to play right now. I have people to see and things to do. You're all so sweet, but the truth is, you're all such boreing people. To be honest...sometimes you all just make me sick."

Misaki turned then and ran off towards track and feild of the school. She knew where she was going to go.

Renju was getting more and more irritated by this damned Shadow as time went on. She sighed and adjusted her glasses. She wasn't a runner, and she'd probably slow Tom down, all told. Fortunately, she didn't have to worry about it--she looked between Tom and the newly-arrived Masami for a moment, considering her options, then nodded sharply. "You're right, senpai, but take Sakuraba-san with you. I'll get Tonbo-san to safe--"

And the aforementioned Tonbo-san was already running off. Great. Yet another person on the team who liked to act before they thought. And did he really have the nerve to accuse them of being at fault here?

"That's not... Wait!" She leaned out the window, looking pointedly at him; if she tried climbing, she would probably fall and break something, with her luck. "We told you that it's dangerous!" She stepped back, fuming.

Tom nodded to Renju. Then turned to see Nayuki climbing out the window. At this point he was done biding his time. He reached out and grabbed Nayuki by the shoulder. He hauled the other boy back in through the window, spun him and pushed him up against the wall.

"Yes! It could have been avoided. It always could have been avoided. But it wasn't, and that can't be changed now."

Tom's eyes locked onto Nayuki's, and his voice hardened.

"She's baiting us. And you're falling for it. You can't let emotional..."

Tom faltered for a moment, his eyes darted to Renju then back to Nayuki.

"You can't let emotional investment cloud your judgment. You have never faced a shadow before, and you have information that could help the group. If you chase after the shadow, all it will do is reduce the chances of saving Aoi, and likely get you hurt as well.

Sonozaki will take you to the team, who'll actually answer the questions you're asking. So it's your choice, do you want to save Aoi, or do you want to yell and scream and thoughtlessly chase our target?"

With that Tom took a step back. He looked at Masami.

"Sakuraba. I trust you to watch my back."

He turned and sprinted toward toward the window. He jumped and twisted at the same time so he could grab the ledge. It seemed Tom had experience leaping in and out of windows. Go figure.

He let go, and dropped down to the ground, then turned to the direction of the Shadow and took off after her.

Shadow Misaki slowed down when she got to the track feild and started to look around as if thinking of something. She scowled deeply, the twisted look on her face did not suit the normally soft looking girl at all. It was upset, more angry then anying, as if the shadow wanted to scream at the ground.

She kicked the dirt with her heel in a moment of spiteful rage, then stomped her foot and pouted. "Now where is it! It's gotta be here some where. I know it has to be..."

The Shadow began to walk in a circle ignoreing the on coming Tom and got down on her knees to dig around.

She then turned to Nayuki and Renju. "Tonbo-san, you shouldn't be getting ahead of yourself either. If you just go rushing in mindlessly, you're only going to get yourself killed. For now just head back with Sonozaki-san." Next, a nod to Renju. "Sonozaki-san, I'll leave it to you."

With her bit said, Masami turned to follow Tom out the window. She dropped down and ran to catch up to him. "I don't think we should follow her, Sagaki-senpai. For now it's better if we regroup with everyone at the butterfly room," she said in a tone that made it clear it was less a suggestion and more an imperative.

Tom slowed his run. He turned and looked back toward Masami.

"Akuba said the shadow attacked her and had a knife. If she's in Paradise or isolated trapped in a room that would be..."

Tom let out a breath.

"I can't let her run around without us watching her. I can't let her hurt someone.

I know that the team needs to organize. Go if you need to. I can handle this on my own. I'll join up with you all later."

"...Remember what happened to you in Akuba's area? And to Ichinomori-san and Oubai-san? We need to stick together. I don't want to leave Aoi-san in there any more than you do, but I also don't want you getting yourself killed for jumping into something that's way over your head. You're coming with me, senpai."

With that, Masami directed a dire look. She obviously wasn't going to budge on this matter.

Fortunately for Tom, having people give him bainful looks was not uncommon.

"What happened to me in Akuba's dungeon was because I stepped up to protect Ishinomori and Oubai. If I had been alone I could have avoided it.

There are innocent people in this school, in this town who need to be protected. If she goes into Paradise, I won't follow, and she can't do anything to me on this side that I won't be prepared for."

"Sagaki-san. I don't think you get it. This is bigger than any of us. None of us can handle this alone, including you. You can't be prepared for everything, I think Akuba's area proved that. And... you can't protect anyone if you rush ahead and die because you're too headstrong to just listen to reason."

Masami was obviously getting more than a little annoyed at Tom's stubborn determination to rush headlong into what she perceived as life-threatening danger, and it was finally starting to show in her tone, though her expression looked a lot more concerned than anything.

Tom closed his eyes for a moment and nodded.

"I know."

He opened his eyes and looked at Masami.

"I know this is bigger then any one person. I know that I can't handle this on my own, and I can't do everything.

That's why I'm here. I trust you, and the others to handle the rescue mission. Please trust me to keep the shadow contained. I know my limits, I know how what I'm doing."

Masami sighed and shook her head. "Every Shadow so far has gone into Paradise without harming anyone outside. What's to say this one won't do the same?" she asked.

"I not as worried about what it'll do if you leave it alone. I'm more worried about what happens if you aggravate it, Sagaki-senpai. You don't know what it will do. You don't even know what it CAN do outside of Paradise. Even if you know your own limits, that won't help you if you blindly walk into a situation that's a lot more than you can handle."

"I hate to say it, but..." another sigh, "you're not as strong as you think you are, Sagaki-san. None of us are..."

So that's how it is...
[info]kleinevidan
2009-10-30 07:06 am UTC (link)
Nayuki stopped hyperventilating long enough to watch Tom and Masami go after the doppelganger. He didn't mind the throbbing pain that he incurred when he got hoisted back through the window, but the words that the upperclassman told him struck true. "What the heck was I doing?" He shrinks down to the floor, still leaning against the way as he quietly sat there, catching his breath. It was a good while before he noticed that Renju was still standing there. He got up to his feet and collected his satchel. "My apologies, Sonozaki-san. I've no excuse to how I acted just now." He dusts himself off and stands next to her, and speaks out with an almost hushed tone "Everyone's right. I know close to nothing. And you all have a better gague at confronting these."

"Akuba-san and Ikeda-san has shown me where the Butterfly Room is." He gives Renju an 'after you' gesture. "I'll walk with you there, if that's alright." He half-expected his classmate to deck him for his recklessness and half-expected to receive the usual indifference. In that time, he continued to wonder what had become of Misaki and how bad it could've been to trigger this incident. The Shadow had a knife and more than threatened Maeko. "Does this mean that Aoi-san's precious one is none other than Akuba-san?" Whatever it is, he'll probably have some answers when he meets up with everyone else.
