Oh dear...
Who: Maeko, Smisa
What: I don't even...
Where: Girls' dorm bathrooms.
When: Lunchtime.
Why: Communication issues and also one of them is a shadow.

Maeko vaguely remembered something that Kozue had mentionned about using that room to skip tennis practice. Using it to cut class was probably a little worse. She'd sat down and stared hard at maths handouts and waited for lunch, when she could conceivably sneak back out of school.

Lunch came but not before maths had lost its great mind-focussing elsewhere power and those hand shadows had forcefully stopped her from scratching her hands again. She escaped school with the crowd who were going home for lunch and ran back to the dorm. She dashed into the closest bathroom, she needed to change her bandages again before anything else.

Seeing Nayuki run by, Masami stopped. "Head for the butterly room,' she told Toshi, "I'm going back in. I have to make sure Tonbo-san doesn't get hurt." And with that, she turned back.

She found Nayuki, Tom, and Renju just in time to see Misaki's shadow jump out the window. "It's good to see you are all OK."

"Let go!" Nayuki shakes off Tom's hold, "That thing hasn't answered my questions yet!" With all of the recent information rushing through his head, he grit his teeth. "It all makes sense now. Everything she said during the P.A. Incident. The things she told me in the flower shop. What Akuba-san and Ikeda-san told me about this whole struggle." He points toward Shadow Misaki, while still keeping his gaze on Tom. "That thing could have been avoided!" He wasn't exactly sure why he's getting angry at his present company, but he was starting to think that they could have had the chance to subvert this new development.

Before he could do anything else, though, Shadow Misaki decided to jump out the window. "Hey! I'm not done talking to you!" Slinging his satchel over his shoulder, he heads for the nearest window and starts scaling it to follow the doppelganger. "She's getting away!"

Shadow Misaki just bowed some and blew a quick kiss to them. "Sorry to not want to play right now. I have people to see and things to do. You're all so sweet, but the truth is, you're all such boreing people. To be honest...sometimes you all just make me sick."

Misaki turned then and ran off towards track and feild of the school. She knew where she was going to go.

Renju was getting more and more irritated by this damned Shadow as time went on. She sighed and adjusted her glasses. She wasn't a runner, and she'd probably slow Tom down, all told. Fortunately, she didn't have to worry about it--she looked between Tom and the newly-arrived Masami for a moment, considering her options, then nodded sharply. "You're right, senpai, but take Sakuraba-san with you. I'll get Tonbo-san to safe--"

And the aforementioned Tonbo-san was already running off. Great. Yet another person on the team who liked to act before they thought. And did he really have the nerve to accuse them of being at fault here?

"That's not... Wait!" She leaned out the window, looking pointedly at him; if she tried climbing, she would probably fall and break something, with her luck. "We told you that it's dangerous!" She stepped back, fuming.

Tom nodded to Renju. Then turned to see Nayuki climbing out the window. At this point he was done biding his time. He reached out and grabbed Nayuki by the shoulder. He hauled the other boy back in through the window, spun him and pushed him up against the wall.

"Yes! It could have been avoided. It always could have been avoided. But it wasn't, and that can't be changed now."

Tom's eyes locked onto Nayuki's, and his voice hardened.

"She's baiting us. And you're falling for it. You can't let emotional..."

Tom faltered for a moment, his eyes darted to Renju then back to Nayuki.

"You can't let emotional investment cloud your judgment. You have never faced a shadow before, and you have information that could help the group. If you chase after the shadow, all it will do is reduce the chances of saving Aoi, and likely get you hurt as well.

Sonozaki will take you to the team, who'll actually answer the questions you're asking. So it's your choice, do you want to save Aoi, or do you want to yell and scream and thoughtlessly chase our target?"

With that Tom took a step back. He looked at Masami.

"Sakuraba. I trust you to watch my back."

He turned and sprinted toward toward the window. He jumped and twisted at the same time so he could grab the ledge. It seemed Tom had experience leaping in and out of windows. Go figure.

He let go, and dropped down to the ground, then turned to the direction of the Shadow and took off after her.

Shadow Misaki slowed down when she got to the track feild and started to look around as if thinking of something. She scowled deeply, the twisted look on her face did not suit the normally soft looking girl at all. It was upset, more angry then anying, as if the shadow wanted to scream at the ground.

She kicked the dirt with her heel in a moment of spiteful rage, then stomped her foot and pouted. "Now where is it! It's gotta be here some where. I know it has to be..."

The Shadow began to walk in a circle ignoreing the on coming Tom and got down on her knees to dig around.

She then turned to Nayuki and Renju. "Tonbo-san, you shouldn't be getting ahead of yourself either. If you just go rushing in mindlessly, you're only going to get yourself killed. For now just head back with Sonozaki-san." Next, a nod to Renju. "Sonozaki-san, I'll leave it to you."

With her bit said, Masami turned to follow Tom out the window. She dropped down and ran to catch up to him. "I don't think we should follow her, Sagaki-senpai. For now it's better if we regroup with everyone at the butterfly room," she said in a tone that made it clear it was less a suggestion and more an imperative.

Tom slowed his run. He turned and looked back toward Masami.

"Akuba said the shadow attacked her and had a knife. If she's in Paradise or isolated trapped in a room that would be..."

Tom let out a breath.

"I can't let her run around without us watching her. I can't let her hurt someone.

I know that the team needs to organize. Go if you need to. I can handle this on my own. I'll join up with you all later."

"...Remember what happened to you in Akuba's area? And to Ichinomori-san and Oubai-san? We need to stick together. I don't want to leave Aoi-san in there any more than you do, but I also don't want you getting yourself killed for jumping into something that's way over your head. You're coming with me, senpai."

With that, Masami directed a dire look. She obviously wasn't going to budge on this matter.

Fortunately for Tom, having people give him bainful looks was not uncommon.

"What happened to me in Akuba's dungeon was because I stepped up to protect Ishinomori and Oubai. If I had been alone I could have avoided it.

There are innocent people in this school, in this town who need to be protected. If she goes into Paradise, I won't follow, and she can't do anything to me on this side that I won't be prepared for."

"Sagaki-san. I don't think you get it. This is bigger than any of us. None of us can handle this alone, including you. You can't be prepared for everything, I think Akuba's area proved that. And... you can't protect anyone if you rush ahead and die because you're too headstrong to just listen to reason."

Masami was obviously getting more than a little annoyed at Tom's stubborn determination to rush headlong into what she perceived as life-threatening danger, and it was finally starting to show in her tone, though her expression looked a lot more concerned than anything.

Tom closed his eyes for a moment and nodded.

"I know."

He opened his eyes and looked at Masami.

"I know this is bigger then any one person. I know that I can't handle this on my own, and I can't do everything.

That's why I'm here. I trust you, and the others to handle the rescue mission. Please trust me to keep the shadow contained. I know my limits, I know how what I'm doing."

Masami sighed and shook her head. "Every Shadow so far has gone into Paradise without harming anyone outside. What's to say this one won't do the same?" she asked.

"I not as worried about what it'll do if you leave it alone. I'm more worried about what happens if you aggravate it, Sagaki-senpai. You don't know what it will do. You don't even know what it CAN do outside of Paradise. Even if you know your own limits, that won't help you if you blindly walk into a situation that's a lot more than you can handle."

"I hate to say it, but..." another sigh, "you're not as strong as you think you are, Sagaki-san. None of us are..."

"Maybe you're right. And if you are, then neither of us has a reason to worry. But if I'm right, then we're putting anyone in Iburi at risk.
We're putting the entire team at risk. What if she gets arrested? Or for some reason someone tries to examine her and figures out what she is? We need to contain this."

Tom's posture became rigid. He was clearly angry that she suggested he'd be so stupid as to walk into anything blind.

"I know exactly how strong I am, and I never walk into something blind. And with all do respect Sakuraba, you don't know what I can and cannot handle. You all think that just because I'm not afraid that I don't understand the consequences of my actions? It's the other way around. I'm not afraid because I know exactly how expendable I am. and I'm getting really tired of everyone thinking that just because I'm willing to accept the results of my actions that some how means I haven't thought them out! Just because I'm the only person doing who's here, doing this for a cause, it doesn't make me a fool."

Tom looked away for a moment, his body went slack. He shook his head at his own argument and let out a long, slow, resigned breath. Then he looked back to Masami.

"Look... what if... I'll follow her, I won't even interact with her unless it's dangerous, if she attacks me, I'll pull back. I've been hit enough times to know how to run while I'm bleeding. I won't take any unnecessary risks.

Nayuki stopped hyperventilating long enough to watch Tom and Masami go after the doppelganger. He didn't mind the throbbing pain that he incurred when he got hoisted back through the window, but the words that the upperclassman told him struck true. "What the heck was I doing?" He shrinks down to the floor, still leaning against the way as he quietly sat there, catching his breath. It was a good while before he noticed that Renju was still standing there. He got up to his feet and collected his satchel. "My apologies, Sonozaki-san. I've no excuse to how I acted just now." He dusts himself off and stands next to her, and speaks out with an almost hushed tone "Everyone's right. I know close to nothing. And you all have a better gague at confronting these."

"Akuba-san and Ikeda-san has shown me where the Butterfly Room is." He gives Renju an 'after you' gesture. "I'll walk with you there, if that's alright." He half-expected his classmate to deck him for his recklessness and half-expected to receive the usual indifference. In that time, he continued to wonder what had become of Misaki and how bad it could've been to trigger this incident. The Shadow had a knife and more than threatened Maeko. "Does this mean that Aoi-san's precious one is none other than Akuba-san?" Whatever it is, he'll probably have some answers when he meets up with everyone else.
