Party Time!
Who: Everyone who heard, basically.
What: Kiriko's Party
Where: Event hall by the dorms
When: 8pm Saturday
Why: Birthday celebrations!

The party's turnout was roughly as expected, and the presence of such a lively crowd was enough to make anyone (but especially Kiriko) thankful for the fact that the event hall had air conditioning. Tables were scattered about, some of them holding food for the guests and all of them clear of the dance floor. A school-aged boy with a nervous look to him was at the head of the dancefloor acting as DJ and doing a reasonably good job at keeping everyone pleased, mostly by way of immediately playing any song requested that had not been previously blacklisted by Kiriko. A karaoke system and open mic were set up, but no one had gotten quite drunk enough to approach the stage yet. The much-fretted over decorations had gone up last minute and the sparkling blue butterflies dangling from the ceiling or stuck to walls here and there caught and reflected the dim light.

Kiriko sat at the head table with a gaggle of girls, several from 1-A, and was chatting and laughing easily with them. She was keeping a sharp eye out for anybody who looked like they might break something or cause other kinds of trouble, occasionally turning from the conversation to crane her head and look out over the partygoers, but seemed quite pleased and relaxed nonetheless.

As he entered the hall, Toru began to have another pang of doubt about coming to Kiriko's birthday party. They knew each other, which was certainly enough of a connection for anyone to justify coming to the event, or even more than that, guessing from some of the guests. That wasn't the issue. The issue was that this was the first party that Toru had attended since he was about eight years old. He wasn't a social person, nor was he a party-goer at all. In short, he had no idea what to do in a situation like this.

This being the case, he slipped into the hall unnoticed and began to lurk around the edges of the crowd. Maybe he'd run into one of the other Persona-users?

Kouchisei was similiar to Toru in how he felt about parties - that they were strange and unfamiliar, and that he didn't know how to refuse invitations. Relationships. Social status. He frowned and massaged the back of neck. Knowing people made things complicated. He wasn't fond of being held to a timetable and preferred choosing what to do and where to do it.

In short, he was frightened stuff.

And in the next moment, he was stumbling. A cry of dismay came from his lips, "Ah!" and he was pulling himself left to remain upright. He turned his gaze on whoever it was and felt himself shiver. This was his personal space!

"You... Toru-kun." He didn't quite know how to react. His tone had started cold, but it warmed considerably.

Toru did not relish the prospect of people bumping into him. That was the thing about isolation: human contact was that much more startling when one was avoiding it. But his awkwardness and unawareness of the presence of others made it fairly unlikely that he'd continue his isolation. As it was, Toru was bound to bump into somebody. Literally. The unintentional contact with Kouchisei made him take a half-step backwards.

"K-kouchisei-sempai! Hello!" His tone was less of enthusiasm and more of surprise. At least it was a fellow Persona-user. "How are you?"

He glanced left and right, figuring the distance between himself and others was enough that he could spot people approaching and make an exit.

"... I'm not sure what I'm doing, really. I only came to give her this." He waved the blue-wrapped present he'd been holding behind his back. "And you?"

Misaki hurried in smiling. It was strange that she was coming to a party when her's had been only a few days ago. Dressed in a red dress and heels, she hurried up the walk way to the dorm hall, carrying three boxes. All three were hand made items that she had spent the past two days working on along with the dress for Kozue, and the yukatas for Shiori and Kanaye. She wondered if Kiriko was going to like them. The last time she'd gone to a party of this sort was a few months ago for one of her mother's co-worker's daughter. It had been rather dull, but this one, seeing as it was going to have people that she knew, had to be more fun.

Misaki carefully checked the wrapping paper on the three gifts. The bottom one was a tall box, with blue and green paper, that had wrapped inside it a basket with various foods that she had cooked for Kiriko that she knew the girl liked. The second, a mid sized box, with dark blue ribbons on it and was a pale blue, was a blue butterfly stuffed animal that doubled as a hair barette holder, the last though was something that was very special, or at least Misaki felt it was. The box was small, compared to the others, wrapped in royal blue paper with white stars on it, and inside was a barette shaped like a flower, but was really nine fox tails that centered around a gold butterfly in the center with blue gemstones. This gift she had designed and given to a jewler to make for her. She knew she was spending a bit of money on the last, but thankfully he'd given her a discount. After all it was Kiriko-chan's birthday.

Hurrying inside Misaki looked around and spotted Toru and waved at him then started to look around for Kiriko. She wondered where to put the gifts?

Yuuto has quietly slipped into the hall, mostly unnoticed. Well, he would have been completely unnoticeable if it wasn't for the yukata he was wearing -- it probably stood out considering few, if anyone else was being traditional. He had heard some gossiping about the party and decided, hell why not? Granted, he didn't know Kiriko well, but he figured he didn't need an excuse to hang around the air-conditioned event hall.

He didn't really like parties. But there was no reason for him to not hang around for anything interesting either (alcohol had been mentioned -- he was going to stick around to watch unless it got...uncomfortable).

...Though explaining to his grandpa why he went for a girl's birthday party would be a little troublesome later. Whoops.

Kiriko spotted Yuuto first primarily because Yuuto happened to be the easiest to spot, being the only person in the hall in a yukata. Kiriko silently reflected on his odd choice of clothing (traditional? At this kind of party?) but supposed that it shouldn't seem as odd to her as it did.

She caught a glimpse of the other P-users around him shortly thereafter.

Of those who had arrived, she knew Misaki and Toru best, but they also happened to be among the atendees who concerned her most. Perhaps they'd stick together - Misaki could avoid trouble and Toru could avoid a nervous breakdown related to the social anxiety. Yuuto seemed like he'd be able to handle himself, and even though she didn't know Noriko very well, she got the same impression of independence from her.

She stood and waved all four of them over.

"Hey! Over here!"

"Kiriko-chan!" Misaki waved back and gently tugged on Toru's sleeve to get his attetion and point out where Kiriko was. She noticed Yuuto and tapped him on the shoulder as a means of doing the same.

"Yuuto-sempai! I'm glad to see you here too. I think Kiriko-chan wants us over there." She motioned then hurried slightly ahead beaming at Kiriko as she came up.

"Happy Birthday Kiriko-chan! Um...these are for you. I didn't know where to put them," She bushed and looked around. "There are so many people here!"

Noriko wandered into the hall, tapping her camera quietly against her palm before she decided to put it away in the purse she was carrying. She didn't know Kiriko at all, really, and had only happened to see her or meet her or whatever when they went into Paradise. Which was quite the experience, she had to admit. It was interesting but not something she was looking forward to doing again, though it secretly pleased her that she could be of use during the battle.

Something she would never admit out loud.

But, despite the fact that she didn't know Kiriko that well, she still decided to come to the party anyways. It gave her a chance to get out of her house and away from the hospital, where her dad was still staying. She hadn't mentioned what had happened to him to anyone except for Shin and Yuuto, who only happened to be around when she got the call. It still made her anxious to be away from her father but he told her that if he needed anything he'd have one of the nurses call, just like whenever she was at home.

Her outfit was just a simple black dress with white polka dots, the straps tying behind her neck and the style of the dress mimicking the rockabilly style. For shoes, she opted for red round-toe pumps instead of her red high-top sneakers that she had wanted to wear. She supposed that killing her feet for one night wasn't going to be so bad.

She moved to the back of the building where it was darker and not many people stood, deciding to chill near the wall until she spotted someone she knew.

After having decided to patrol the perimeter, Kiriko spotted Noriko and greeted her with a lazy wave.

"Nice dress, Mizushima-san. Glad you could come."

She made conscious effort not to look too appraising as she flicked her eyes over the older girl, but it was difficult - appraising was more or less what she was doing. She didn't know Noriko very well. She didn't seem like the type who'd feel obliged to come wherever there was an invitation sent to her, so Kiriko figured she must be there for drinks, food, dancing or boys, and was trying to determine which of the four was most likely.

((OOC: Posted for K1 and Kozue, co-written between us.))

Try though he might, Keiichi didn't think he'd be able to get his heart to stop beating as if it was trying to escape. The reason for that was likely found in the woman standing next to him, hand clasped in his. She was over a foot shorter than him, but that wouldn't be on the list of the five oddest things about the pair of them as a couple.

Kozue had to balance her own present slightly awkwardly, having only one hand to hold onto her slightly oversized, furoshiki-wrapped present. It had been a last minute buy, but the furoshiki cloth she'd had lying around for ages, and this was a great excuse to use it. She was also carrying another, much less fancy parcel, cloth-wrapped, and bottle-shaped, but that package had a handle, and she'd looped it around her wrist. The first was for Kiriko; the second, umeshu for everyone. Well, herself, and then everyone.

Keiichi smiled, placing down his wrapped tray of cookies (iced with Kiriko's persona on them, naturally) amongst the birthday girl's other assorted gifts. "So many people here," Keiichi observed, turning to his date. "I haven't been to a party in forever."

Thank god they’d gotten to the table: Kozue juggled a little, and put the present for Kiriko down. Inside the traditional cloth wrapping, was a raincoat; odd, yes, but she’d seen it after they’d gone shopping together and it had clicked. After all, it was designer; dark blue, brass buttons, colors that Kozue had thought were really fitting for her classmate. But it was also reversible; you couldn’t tell that the inside was all blue leopard spots until you flipped it around.

“It looks like it’s just getting started,” she commented, gazing around the room. At least, judging by the lack of bad karaoke, drunken stumbling, or general chaos, it looked like it was just beginning. She squeezed Keiichi’s hand, though, in case that comment had been meant to convey some kind of nervousness. Social anxiety, or whatever.

Kiriko smiled as she saw the two of them arrive and approach, and she had just enough time to note Keiichi's uneasiness before her eye was drawn to the specially wrapped gift and the tray of cookies. The icing design brought a smile to her lips and she looked back up to both of them.

"Hey, welcome. What we picked seems to have worked out, Kondo-san."

"It looks great--the decorators did a wonderful job," Kozue agreed, glancing around quickly; she'd seen it all when she came in, of course, and she'd been pleased. The colors were coordinated, and, more importantly, everyone seemed completely okay with it.

"Happy birthday, of course. Everything fun so far?" She bobbed her head a little, although she continued to hold her date's hand. Either it was for reassurance, or it was a statement; since Kiriko was still holding court, in a way, with a group of 1-A girls, the statement was most likely involved somehow.

When Thomas arrived to the party he once again wore the dark suit he'd worn on the class trip. He figured it would stick out slightly less then the Nanakamado school uniform. Under one arm he carried his gift. A pair of books, the first copy of Sun Tu's the art of War, and the second a book titled "Trickster spirits from Coyote to Kitsune"
Both books had been wrapped in red and orange paper. They seemed like appropriate colors for Ikeda.

His research had suggested that he present himself to the host, and offer up his gift. He saw Ikead talking with a group of people, and he intended to wait until Kiriko was alone.

Until such a time as he could manage that, Tom wandered through the party. He didn't speak to anyone, unless they spoke to him first, which by this point in his school career very few people ever approached him. This gave him the chance to observe, and listen in on a few snippets of conversation.

Now that he thought about it, a chance to get most of the school in one place did have it's benefits. Tom was rather glad he decided to show up, and hoped he was being inconspicuous.

"Sagaki, what are you doing."

It was a kind of resigned statement more than a proper question. Kiriko stood behind him with her arms crossed, one brow arched at the back of his head.

"This is not really the time to be skulking."

Renju hadn't intended to come here. Really, she hadn't. She had other things to do, better things than watch people talk and get drunk and... whatever else it was they did at this sort of thing, not that she really had any reason to know. She'd technically been invited, being a Persona-user and all, but this wasn't her scene, and she barely knew Ikeda-san besides.

She was just here to get her shoe back. Was that so much to ask?

Her normal clothing was practically formal enough for the party as it was--a pale yellow cardigan over a button-down white shirt and black slacks, paired with sensible non-stolen shoes. She'd brought a gift out of obligation--she didn't know Ikeda-san that well, but there were certain things that worked well enough for most people, and she wasn't about to come without one.

To her dismay but not surprise, it looked like Ikeda-san was busy. Renju hung back near the wall, peering at the stack of gifts. She was pretty sure she could see it from here, but she wasn't completely sure it was hers...

Who on earth stole a single shoe from a locker and then turned around and used it as a gift, anyway?

"Hello. Sonozaki-san, right?" Kiriko waved as she moved towards Renju on her journey to unglue nervous partygoers from the wall. She smiled easily, figuring that was a good way to accomplish her specified goal.

"Thanks for coming. You look a little nervous, though. Oh, is it that you don't drink...?"

Tom adjusted his hat and nodded to Kiriko.

"Big public event like this isn't a good time to draw attention to myself.
After all, Getting half the school in one place then getting them drunk was... actually quite brilliant. This party is a wealth of information. We should throw them more often."

"Oh, no, it's not that. It's just that I don't really go to parties..."

Looking somewhere between nervous, sheepish, and generally shy, Renju peeled herself away from the wall and offered the little blue-and-white-wrapped box to Kiriko, holding it in both hands. "This isn't much, but..." The whole presentation was oddly formal, though that wasn't exactly out of character for her. Besides, having protocol to follow made it easier on her.

Still, she had to bring up the actual reason she was here somehow. Maybe if she was indirect about it, it would help. "I, um, noticed that one of the gifts up there was a shoe." Nope. Still awkward. She kicked herself mentally.

Yoshimi had policies about drinking around her schoolmates, teachers, and anyone who with a reputation for gossip, she really did, but Kiriko had been part of the group responsible for rescuing her from the not-Nanakamado she'd been trapped in. It was only appropriate to show up to her party, right? She'd even brought a gift, a keychain that vaguely resembled one of the hair ornaments she'd seen her schoolmate wearing. Yoshimi didn't know the other girl well enough to make a guess at what she'd like, and it was hard to imagine that someone so classy would have any use for a kitschy keychain, but it was the thought that counted. Or something. So she'd wrapped it, boxed it, attached a bow, and inserted a little note that simply said "Thank you" because elaborating any more than that yielded something like "Thank you for saving me from that hellish alternate universe version of our high school the other day, ♥". After placing the box with the impressive pile of presents, she'd started slowly but surely drifting towards the refreshment table.

Now, twenty minutes later, she was at the very least starting to feel thoroughly buzzed. She had her policies, but free drinks were free drinks. "Does anyone," she started, loudly enough that a good section of the room could hear her but not loudly enough to really be yelling, "want to play a game?"

Since her arrival, Kozue had cracked open the bottle of slightly over-sweet plum wine that she'd brought, and made pretty good headway into it -- well, that, plus samples of several more serious drinks that friends had brought. She was by no means a large person, nor a particularly accomplished drinker, so Kozue was also starting to feel a bit silly. It had begun to show in her dancing--which had gotten rather less inhibited over the last fifteen minutes or so, and much larger and freer in gesture. And she was pink around the face. And she'd been giggling.

So when she heard someone shouting above the general din of the party, something about playing a game, she turned immediately, and threw a hand up in the air, shouting right back towards (generally) where Yoshi's voice had come from: "A game! Game! I'm in!"

Kiriko had just stepped forward to announce her participation when her phone rang. She stopped at having barely gotten an "I" out and looked towards her bag, rummaging around in it and eventually withdrawing her cell. When she did take it out, she looked almost suprised to see it ringing in her hand, and then sour upon noticing the number calling. Smiling apologetically to both Kozue and Yoshimi, she flicked the cell open and lifted it to her ear.

"Hello?" Her tone was irritable but not quite impolite, though she chewed the inside of her lip and tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for the person on the other line to proceed with whatever they were saying. About halfway through, something being said on the other line made her jaw drop. Her eyes darted around the room, met nervously with her friends congregating for a game, and she had the presence of mind to hold up a finger before retreating into the crowd, muttering frantically into the phone as she headed for the door.

What were people supposed to do at a dance party? Dance, obviously! Toshimi had only been to one dance party in her lifetime--to which every middle school and high school student in town had been invited-- and that had been nowhere near as nice as this one. Despite her lack of experience for such situations, Toshimi was not a horrible dancer, and she was having a good time.

She did feel slightly out-of-place, though, as her classmates seemed to be dressed rather formally compared to her tank top and skirt. She was also worried that her gift, too, would pale in comparison to those of her classmates: she'd bought Kiriko a set of hairclips, but they were the cheap kind that Toshimi would normally wear herself. Kiriko's were always much nicer, so Toshimi didn't feel they'd be good enough, and attached the gift to a bag of candy from a nearby store. Kiriko seemed like the kind of person who wouldn't like sweets, but Toshimi didn't want to make assumptions--plus, having already bought the hairclips, candy was one of the only things she could afford.

At a song change, Toshi worked her way out of the crowd on the dance floor and headed for one of the tables with food on it. She hadn't eaten before the party, so she was getting hungry. Everything looked appetizing. She took a plate and began to pile it with whatever food she could reach.

Kiriko's handling-of-the-antisocial mission ended with a brief conversation with one of her shy friends from 1-C. Shortly after being greeted, the girl had revealed among profuse apology that parties were not really her scene and she had been dragged because her older friend was interested in the free food. Kiriko had narrowly managed to persuade her to partake as well before leaving, and so was guiding her over to the food tables when she spotted Toshimi loading a plate up.

"Nawanaka-san, hello!" She distractedly passed a plate into the hands of her companion, who looked momentarily baffled as to what to do with it. "Go on, help yourself, I'll catch up." She turned back to Toshimi with a smile as the other girl hesitantly followed her instructions, beelining for the sweets table.

"I saw you earlier, but you were dancing, so. I didn't think you'd like to dance, actually."

"Ah, Ikeda-san! Happy birthday!" Toshimi set her plate at the edge of the table for a second so that she could turn to Kiriko and bow politely. "Thank you very much for inviting me," she said. "It's a wonderful party."

"Yes, I was having fun!" Toshimi smiled. She glanced up at one of the butterflies hanging from the ceiling. "I don't suppose that people here would think that, no," she agreed, smiling back at Kiriko. "Dancing is all right. It's rare to be at a party like this, so I figured, take the chance while it's there." She paused. "Not that I especially like it, though, so you're right in a way."

She took another glance around at the party. "This must have taken a lot of work to put together," she said. "Since it's your party, does that mean you like dancing, Ikeda-san?"
