Party Time!
Who: Everyone who heard, basically.
What: Kiriko's Party
Where: Event hall by the dorms
When: 8pm Saturday
Why: Birthday celebrations!

The party's turnout was roughly as expected, and the presence of such a lively crowd was enough to make anyone (but especially Kiriko) thankful for the fact that the event hall had air conditioning. Tables were scattered about, some of them holding food for the guests and all of them clear of the dance floor. A school-aged boy with a nervous look to him was at the head of the dancefloor acting as DJ and doing a reasonably good job at keeping everyone pleased, mostly by way of immediately playing any song requested that had not been previously blacklisted by Kiriko. A karaoke system and open mic were set up, but no one had gotten quite drunk enough to approach the stage yet. The much-fretted over decorations had gone up last minute and the sparkling blue butterflies dangling from the ceiling or stuck to walls here and there caught and reflected the dim light.

Kiriko sat at the head table with a gaggle of girls, several from 1-A, and was chatting and laughing easily with them. She was keeping a sharp eye out for anybody who looked like they might break something or cause other kinds of trouble, occasionally turning from the conversation to crane her head and look out over the partygoers, but seemed quite pleased and relaxed nonetheless.

Yoshimi had policies about drinking around her schoolmates, teachers, and anyone who with a reputation for gossip, she really did, but Kiriko had been part of the group responsible for rescuing her from the not-Nanakamado she'd been trapped in. It was only appropriate to show up to her party, right? She'd even brought a gift, a keychain that vaguely resembled one of the hair ornaments she'd seen her schoolmate wearing. Yoshimi didn't know the other girl well enough to make a guess at what she'd like, and it was hard to imagine that someone so classy would have any use for a kitschy keychain, but it was the thought that counted. Or something. So she'd wrapped it, boxed it, attached a bow, and inserted a little note that simply said "Thank you" because elaborating any more than that yielded something like "Thank you for saving me from that hellish alternate universe version of our high school the other day, ♥". After placing the box with the impressive pile of presents, she'd started slowly but surely drifting towards the refreshment table.

Now, twenty minutes later, she was at the very least starting to feel thoroughly buzzed. She had her policies, but free drinks were free drinks. "Does anyone," she started, loudly enough that a good section of the room could hear her but not loudly enough to really be yelling, "want to play a game?"

Since her arrival, Kozue had cracked open the bottle of slightly over-sweet plum wine that she'd brought, and made pretty good headway into it -- well, that, plus samples of several more serious drinks that friends had brought. She was by no means a large person, nor a particularly accomplished drinker, so Kozue was also starting to feel a bit silly. It had begun to show in her dancing--which had gotten rather less inhibited over the last fifteen minutes or so, and much larger and freer in gesture. And she was pink around the face. And she'd been giggling.

So when she heard someone shouting above the general din of the party, something about playing a game, she turned immediately, and threw a hand up in the air, shouting right back towards (generally) where Yoshi's voice had come from: "A game! Game! I'm in!"

SLIGHT DETOUR

Kiriko had just stepped forward to announce her participation when her phone rang. She stopped at having barely gotten an "I" out and looked towards her bag, rummaging around in it and eventually withdrawing her cell. When she did take it out, she looked almost suprised to see it ringing in her hand, and then sour upon noticing the number calling. Smiling apologetically to both Kozue and Yoshimi, she flicked the cell open and lifted it to her ear.

"Hello?" Her tone was irritable but not quite impolite, though she chewed the inside of her lip and tapped her foot impatiently as she waited for the person on the other line to proceed with whatever they were saying. About halfway through, something being said on the other line made her jaw drop. Her eyes darted around the room, met nervously with her friends congregating for a game, and she had the presence of mind to hold up a finger before retreating into the crowd, muttering frantically into the phone as she headed for the door.

ORLY?

Kanaye, being both rather large and used to drinking a bit, was still awake and conscious, if not exactly at his best mentally, as the wine he brought was emptied. His drinking buddies, for lack of a better term, were all passed out on the seats and such. One of the girls was still awake, but she was giggling to herself as she tried to stand up and failed miserably. Kanaye chuckled at her as he stood up at Yoshimi's announcement, ready to join in (he loved the king's game), but Kiriko's rather odd reaction made him stop.

Now, Kanaye's mental facilities were rather hampered but his intoxication, but he went to enough parties to know that the host leaving is not a good thing. He figured that either the cops were coming or something was wrong with Kiriko, either of which required his direct intervention, or at least running away. Walking over to the door, Kanaye looked at Kiriko as she was coming along and asked, rather slurridly. "Where'sya goin? Party's jus' gettin started..." he said, stumbling as he finished before righting himself.

She looked startled again by Kanaye's presence and her first response was to swat at the air in effort to communicate something that was not entirely clear. After a moment, she hissed something into the reciever and then clapped it to her chest, looking up to Kanaye.

"I-It's fine. I just... Something came up, I need to take care of... something. I'll be back in a little, just carry on."

With that, she slipped back into her conversation, clearly trying not to be overheard as she slipped past Kanaye and out the door.

Kanaye would've raised an eyebrow if he had the motor functions to do so. Instead, it looked like he was winking. "Ohh... well, aright then. Have fun with whatever you're doing!" he shouted as he tried to run to Yoshimi, nearly tripping. With a bit of a wave to Kiriko, he shouted back "I LIKE PLAYIN GAMES!"

Kozue looked towards Kiriko's retreating back, perplexed, but just a little too tipsy to focus too well on the curious and sudden departure. Maybe she just had to talk in quiet -- but no, her face had been kind of -- oh, maybe it was just the light in the room -- or -- oh, game! The game!

Thus did Kozue's disjointed thoughts run, so that by the time Kanaye was declaring his love of games, Kozue was also making her way through the crowd to her classmate, motioning anyone she passed to follow her. Big games were better games! In the absence of a host to conduct things, Yoshimi, being the one to think of it, got to pick what game.

"What game are we playing?"

Then he peered through a window, saw there was still a fair bit of food left on the table, and walked back inside...

And found himself face to face with a growing circle of folks intent on playing some sort of game. He frowned at the lot of them and sidestepped over to the dressed table to grab a handful of sushi and start popping them into his mouth. Better to scarf down now before having to shuffle off and find the little blonde girl he was supposed to be babysitting.

Or maybe he’d just skip it all and wander off back to his house.

Mouth stuffed full of rice and fish, Reizo lifted his hands up to wipe them on his silver dress shirt, stopped, and instead looked around for a napkin. When he found himself without one, he wiped his hands instead on the nearest person he could find.

Masami didn't have much experience with this sort of party - sure, she'd been to one or two in the past, but it wasn't really her thing. However, she figured that since Kiriko had invited her, it would be polite to at least show up for a little while. If she happened to enjoy herself enough to stay for the whole thing, then that was a nice bonus.

Masami wore a long black evening gown with side slits in the skirt. Though she did kind of like how she looked in it, Masami still thought it was a little too tight and maybe a little too revealing. In one hand, she carried her gift for Kiriko, a fox-shaped pewter necklace.

Having arrived late, Masami could see that most of the other attendants had already indulged themselves with the liquor, and she heard something about a game of some sort as she walked in. Not exactly sure she wanted to participate in a drinking game or whatever it was, Masami made her first order of business dropping off her present on the table with an obvious mound of other presents, then she quietly hung around the periphery of the area, trying to keep from being too conspicuous.

Kanaye noticed Masami (or rather, her dress) and immediately walked over to her the instant she dropped off her present. "Common, Maschan! We're playin a game and we need your legs!" he slurred out. "Excellent dress, BTW." he said, as if it wasn't obvious already. "really brings out your legs. Your legs are amazing, you know that? I want your legs..." he continued on.

"Koooooozueeee," Keiichi called, the three syllables dragged out even more than the might have otherwise been as he half-stumbled over to the group. "Where did you--oh! Hi everyone!"

He sketched a quick bow to everyone. "What's goin' on over here?" He giggled a bit, before trying to make his way over to a seat closer to Kozue. Keiichi did, however, frown slightly at the fact that walking straight didn't seem to be happening.

Thankfully, once he sat down, everything seemed a little more stable. "This some kinda game?"

"Oh, thanks Satou-senpai. I was worried I wouldn't look good in a dress like this so I'm glad it looks OK..."

Masami was happy to have been complemented on her dress, despite it being pretty obvious that Kanaye was inebriated, like a good number of other attendants(she noticed Keiichi stumbling and fumbling his way over to Kozue not too far away). Knowing that, it was with a good amount of apprehension when Masami then asked "What kind of game are you playing? Though, I'll probably just sit and relax somewhere..."

Kanaye paused (or rather, wobbled in place for a bit). He had no idea what game they were playing. A few seconds after figuring this out, his mouth split into a grin as he grabbed Masami by her arm and dragged her towards the little crowd that was forming. "I'v no idea. Let's find out!" he announced.

"I'm here!" he shouted as he and Masami reached the group. "What're we playin?" he asked, still screaming.

What game were they playing? That was the question of the hour, it seemed. However, surely, it'd get answered, and there were funny things to distract in the meantime. Kozue grinned with amusement, watching as Keiichi proved that walking in a straight line was just a bit too complex for the moment; in fact, between his stumbling and Kanaye's constant yelling, the Persona-users were turning out to be amusing drunks.

She scooted aside a little, making room for Keiichi. She, like some of the other people who'd assembled at Yoshimi's call, had found or stolen chairs, and made up something of a little, lopsided ring to sit in.

"I went here." She declared, still grinning, to her date as he sat down, as if this wasn't already obvious.

(THIS WAS POSTED A FEW DAYS AGO IT WAS JUST INVISIBLE, HONEST. *hides in the corner of lies and work/school*)

Emi hadn't been entirely sure what she was originally expecting. It had mainly been the desire to not be left out of the party that had made her want to go, but she found herself disappointed with the realization that high schoolers were pretty much just as dumb as middle schoolers. In fact, she liked that way of describing them the best. They were overgrown middle schoolers. Being probably the youngest there didn't really help either. She didn't know anyone too well and she doubted anyone would take her too seriously anyway. The only people she was more familiar with were the people she ran around in that weird place with and... she hardly liked half of them as it was.

She idly smoothed her light blue skirt. She hadn't been sure whether to dress formal or not, so she had worn a skirt instead of one of her dresses in order to be a bit more casual just in case. The skirt itself had a white bow around the waist and some subtle sewn in details, but it went well with her simple and cute white top. Her white shoes were in the style of ballerina flats, but they had a slight heel to boost her height just a wee bit. Not that it really helped in the long run. All in all she had tried to dress in a mature manner while still looking age appropriate. The fact that she seemed to blend in with the dress code of the party was one of the only pluses she could find at that moment when she looked over the crowd from the bathroom door.

The main goal for the moment was just to find where Reizo had wandered off to. She had absolutely no plans of leaving until the actual end of the party if only to prove a point and compared to everything else having to hang around with him the whole time really wasn't that terrifying terrible. Finally she spotted him shoving food into his mouth and... wiping his hands off on other people. She wrinkled her nose and opened her mouth to say something, but before she said anything she pulled a pale yellow, flower-covered handkerchief from the tiny purse she had hanging around her shoulder.

"That's disgusting. Just ask for a napkin!" Emi scolded after she stepped over to him, offering the handkerchief.

Reizo turned to Emi, cheeks plump and stuffed full of, if the rice around his mouth and roll he had poised in one hand was any indication, sushi. He looked perplexed. And like a chipmunk.

“Difgufting?” he asked, still chewing his food. He cleared his mouth with a gulp, frowned, and snatched the handkerchief away from Emi to wipe his mouth clean of the near ludicrous amount of rice ringing it. “Nothing disgustin’ about eatin’, shrimp.” He seemed to want to say more, but the wise line his uncle had given him back when he was still a normal kid was murky and out of reach. Something about yakuza and eating first..

He cleaned his fingers on the dainty yellow hankie, then handed it back to her with a grunt of thanks and lifted his free hand to take a drag of his cigarette, only to discover that it’d disappeared. He whirled around back to the buffet table and found it floating in a half-empty punchbowl. He ladled it out carefully and stuffed it into the hands of a passerby with a little nod before he lit himself up a new one and took a slow, savoring drag.

“So how’re you liking the party? Is getting lost in the crowd of bigger folk and knocked around as fun as I figure it is?”

He delivered the line through a toothy grin and with an accompanying appraising look.

“Just about makes you wanna drink, huh?”

Reizo had stepped out onto the verandah(?) of the building earlier. Through some clever deflection and redirecting he’d managed to shake off Emi (for a little bit anyway) and only have to consume one or two actual shots of alcohol, but even that was enough to affect him. He was big, tough, and a damned hardy eater, but he held his drink like a six year old girl and wasn’t about to get drunk around that rag tag group. A single shot or two to show he was capable, and a glare with a warning of “you really want me drunk?” was generally enough to make most leave him alone.

He leaned a hand out against one of the posts and steadied himself, head canted down and eyes closed as he tried to mentally work away the ‘tipsy’ status. The cool night air was almost a blessed relief from the stuffy air of the hall she’d rented out for her birthday. Too many moving heaters and booze, not enough open windows and quiet. He fumbled a cigarette out of his pocket and lit it. The nicotine and cold helped clear his head a little.

He sat down on the edge of the porch, one leg dangling over onto the ground and the other stretched out straight in front of him with his back against the post, glad there was no real railing to speak of. He could still hear the noise coming from inside, swelling at times whenever someone let out a drunken yell or laughed, but it was muffled fairly well and the insects buzzing about were louder.

“Close the damned door,” He frowned through a screen of smoke, eyes turned towards Kiriko and slit against the rectangle of light the open door was letting out. He’d be seeing spots now, wonderful.

His frown deepened when he realized who it was and the gift he had stashed away in his pocket seemed to catch afire again; it’d been burning a hole in his pocket all night. It getting out that he had a gift for her--for anyone-- would be a gigantic fucking hassle. Why he hadn’t just shipped the gift anonymously like he had everyone else’s was still bugging him.

He reached up to take hold of the banister of the railing and carefully unfolded out from beneath it, giving it wide berth so as not to bump his noggin. He fingered the gift in his pocket, sighed, and gave up on it: he’d give it to her later when there wasn’t a chance in hell of anyone else finding out. Or maybe he’d just swing by the post office tomorrow.

“Oi, that ain’t nice, the host ditchin’ the party for a phone call. Just bein’ there for the cake and presents is gonna make you out to be some sorta asshole.”

Kiriko rushed through the door out onto the porch(/stoop/entrace/whatever), ignoring whoever who was issuing demands about its closure. It wasn't until Reizo spoke again that she seemed to absorb any reality that wasn't the phone. Again, she pried it away from her ear. Her mood seemed to snap suddenly from distracted and frantic - the look she shot back over her shoulder was nothing short of caustic.

"Like you give a shit, Shirai. Go manage the situation if it bothers you so damn much."

She lifted the phone back to her ear, and exactly who she was shouting "I'm handling this!" to as she marched down the steps was quite ambiguous.

Tom had seen Kiriko step out. It was suspicious behavior if ever he'd seen, and nothing got Thomas Sagaki's interest like suspicious behavior.

He dropped the gifts for her on the table where everyone else was piling theirs up. And he moved out the door after her.

He unlike the rest of the student body had not been drinking, so his head was completely clear. He didn't like that he would miss out on all the information that would be going around, but he wasn't going to be playing games, and now his detective senses had been piqued.

He walked quietly, and could have cursed Shirai for snapping Kiriko from her focusing on the phone. It would make following her even harder. But none the leass, he pushed on, ignoring the tall boy in the veranda, he moved in hused but quick steps after Ikead, pulling his hat down as he went.

Reizo frowned hard at Kiriko’s back as she stormed off. He’d opened his mouth to shoot something back at her a moment ago, but the acidic way she’d responded to his mild barb was enough to throw him off his game. Stupid girl! So instead he just stood there moodily puffing away on his cigarette, listening to the click of her heels as she made her way down the steps.

He didn’t turn his head when he heard the door open again and another square of bright light suddenly enveloped him along with a brief surge of noise from the party. He was already seeing enough spots from having been stupid enough to glance up at Kiriko when she stepped out. But he did decide to torture whatever unlucky soul had just stumbled out.

And it just had to be that creepy gaijin teammate who looked single-minded in his goal to follow after Kiriko. That was fine! Turning Kiriko’s claws on him was really just as good as anything he could do! He cleared his throat loud enough to hopefully get Ikeda-bitch’s attention, and if that didn’t work then the half-shout afterwards was bound to. Hell, it might even have the added benefit of pulling more people out of the building to watch the ensuing tongue-lashing. Wouldn’t that be just fine?

“You gaijin make a habit of following people? I thought a westerner would know about that curiosity killing the cat thing.”

For the second time she whipped around, catching sight of both Tom and Reizo now and staring quite incredulously at Tom. She muttered "Hold" into her phone and furiously jammed the hold button with one finger, rounding on Tom.

"I don't care what you want right now, Sagaki, but I doubt you didn't realize that I don't want to be followed right now so don't," she stabbed an accusing finger through the air in his direction, "harass me, or whatever you want to call it. Whatever you want can wait."

She turned and hit talk again, as though that settled the matter.

"Anyway, I said no," she continued into the reciever, apparently bolstered or at least whipped into a much more comfortable anger by the altercation. Her tone soon quieted again, and she cast another wary look over her shoulder to check if she was being heard or followed as she headed across the street towards the dorms.

When Kiriko yelled at him, Tom didn't seem that phased. He crossed his arms, and regarded her with an apathetic expression. She hadn't even given him a chance to respond before turning back around.

Once Kiriko had started walking, Tom's eyes shot toward Reizo.

"It could be worse Shirai, I could be skulking around outside the party like some Yakuza punk."

He started walking again, also in the direction of the dorms, his demeanor didn't seem to indicate that he was following Kiriko, but he was walking in the same direction.

Reizo just looked disappointed.

That wasn’t nearly the tongue-lashing he’d been expecting. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair, glanced towards one of the shadows thrown against the shades of the nearest window, flicked away the filter of his last cigarette, and lit up another. He inhaled deeply and the tip of the cigarette flushed a bright cheery red; he eyed Kiriko and Tom after letting out another cloud of smoke and yet another sigh.

This party was damned boring after all, and from the muffled shouts he could hear coming from inside it was about to turn unbearably cheerful. Still, free food counted for something.

He looked even more disappointed at Tom’s poor attempt at an insult. The least someone could give him tonight would be a good snarking match, but noooo! Everyone was either too stupid, too drunk, or too foreign.

“A yakuza punk? I was just outside for a smoke and some fresh air and you go insultin’ me. That ain’t very nice,” he frowned from behind his cigarette, “Or very smart. If some yakuza actually heard you talkin’ about them like that, well, I’d hate to see what would happen to you. Just ‘cuz you‘re a pathetic gaijin don‘t mean they‘d ignore you. Might make it worse.”

He took his cigarette back between his teeth and grinned toothily, “Lucky for you, innit? No one around like that, I mean.”

Then he peered through a window, saw there was still a fair bit of food left on the table, and walked back inside.

Misaki had been hanging out near the punchbowl for a while and was pouring a drink when she noticed Kiriko outside with Tom. They seemed to be talking and she tilted her head puzzed, wondering what was happening. It was then that Reizo peered into the window, making her jump back some and she noticed then that Kiriko was walking off again.

Worried she hurried over to the door when Reizo walked in and called out to him, "Shirai-san! Where's Kiriko-chan going? You shouldn't let her walk alone this late at night she could be hurt by someone. What's happening? She looked really upset."

Reizo paused mid-stride on his way to the food and cocked his head at the pink-haired girl hollerin’ at him.

“Fuck if I know or care, and if you’re worried then you go with her, though I guess with that little shit gaijin following her she’ll be safe enough. Douchebag smells enough like a cop,” he halfway sneered, before he grabbed hold of the pink-haired girl’s wrist and started walking again.

Only to drop her off at the gathering crowd of people who were going to play a drinking game and continuing on to the table piled high with food. Misaki getting blitzed would make damned good entertainment while he ate.

“Have fun, Rabbit-chan,” he called over the rising chorus of what game to play as he started zig-zagging through the crowd again.
