Alright y'all, I know the wedding is still hopping over there but it's PRIDE month too and I'mma be loud about it for a few minutes, because that's half of my personality, and because in some alternate universe I was not, and that is just sad. Normally there is a party for this, but I think most of us are partied out.

Things here are pretty great, all said and done, but I know not everyone is from here and sometimes the shit you need to hear isn't said. So, as the resident disaster gay, I'm just gonna put it plain and simple: it doesn't matter if you're not straight. Literally doesn't matter. If anyone makes it a thing I would call them an asshole but those are more fun and it would be an insult to asses everywhere. You have every right to be who you are and if anyone wants to fight me on that I will sic an angry Eddie on you. He is very loud and talks VERY fast and it is terrifying.

They were called the Stonewall Riots, and were in New York City in June 1969. At the time it was illegal to show any same-sex relationship in public, so there were certain bars and inns that set up to cater to those people, letting them be out and comfortable out of the public view. Police would regularly raid those places though, forging their way in under false pretenses and then arresting anyone they saw.

One night the police did one of those raids on a place called the Stonewall Inn, a spot that was popular with the most marginalized people and homeless kids. But the cops were especially brutal that night. They made trans women and drag queens undress so they could check their sex, the sexually assaulted lesbian women, they beat people and hit people already in handcuffs with batons.
Everyone was finally fed up and they started to fight back. There were riots for almost a week and were some of the most brutal anti-police riots up until that point.

It led to dozens of gay rights groups forming and fighting and eventually led to the first pride parades. It wasn't the start of LGBT+ activism, but it rocketed after the riots and things finally started to get better

When the people realise that they are not powerless and that they can fight back, real societal change can happen. This proves it to be so. I am glad for your generation that you enjoy these hard-earned freedoms.

well, this place is better than most really. if I'd been left home I wouldn't have come out until my 40s out of fear. it was somewhat irrational and based on my particularly awful hometown, but I'm still much happier to have grown up here.
