Okay, this isn't funny. Where the hell did everyone go? JARVIS seems to think they're here, but he can't actually contact any of them. If he sent everyone back without me, there is going to be a fucking show down. I've battled gods before, and I will do it again.

They're here, but they're not at the same time. So technically, they could be there with you right now, but you wouldn't know.

Please tell me that's what passes for a joke at DC. If you fess up now, I won't even be mad.

Not a joke. The same thing happened not long after I arrived last year.

Fantastic. More fun, wacky adventures with Morgan Fucking Freeman.

If by fun and wacky you mean obnoxious and incredibly stupid, then yes.

Guess I get to drink alone now.

You could do that. Or you could invite someone else over to drink with. Someone who has been through this before and could possibly help relay messages between you and anyone else who might be in the Tower. Just saying.

...that could work.

But if Clint sees you, he'll get all angsty and think I'm replacing him. So you're going to have to pretend you broke in and you're a 17th century Spanish Baroque painter named Juan de Pareja.

Don't know how well that one will go over, but I do know Spanish, so there's a chance.

Worth a shot. If nothing else, he could think you're a mad man, so that would still take the heat off of me.

And if he doesn't believe it, I doubt he'll think you're trying to replace him.

I don't know. He's very attached. Gets his arrows in a bunch whenever I hang around with other archers.

As enjoyable as you attempting to thwart our rather ridiculously behaved host might be, I do believe Pepper would be rather cross should you get yourself killed. With that being said, it appears that no one has currently left the city - insofar as Miss Suresh insists, at least - but merely have been transferred to an identical, yet still quite separate, plane of existence.

In short, Mr. Stark, you are currently incapable of interacting in any capacity with anyone from your own reality. They are still very much present, but unable to be reached by yourself, even with your rather impressive capabilities, for the time being.

Maybe they are hiding in your MASSIVE NOSE. And how long does this shit normally last? Like an hour? A couple of days? Because I've got work to do, and super heroes to sexually harass. And I think I lent one of them my roof keys, and now I'm going to have to park on the first floor and use the elevator. Okay, no, JARVIS could just unlock it and I don't have roof keys, but I could have roof keys, and have I mentioned that this is fucking ridiculous?

This is probably one of the most unsettling events that I have experienced while being here, but we are expected to manage without being able to know that they are fine outside of assurances from third parties if at all.

If it makes a difference, your brother was talking to me just a minute ago.

I guess there's that. But it's not like that's really in short supply when your house is a skyscraper.

No more so than I'd have anticipated.

I suppose that is a point. Time to think without anyone interfering? Though, those interference can certainly break up the tedium as well.

I am not very talented as finding silver linings.

I don't think I should really be left alone with my thoughts for extended periods of time. Good things may come of it, but I don't know that the world would really consider them good.

Yeah, neither am I. I'm good at making it through shitty situations when there's some chance of escape in sight. But just chilling and hoping things sort themselves out? Not so good at that.

Any chance YOU drink? Or is it all just tea with you brits?

The world's perception of progress is often skewed by its ignorance.

I have a rather assortment of vices, and alcohol is among them, yes. Why?

The world's perception of everything is often skewed by its ignorance.

Well, your brother is shacking up with my ex-girlfriend, so we've only got like two degrees of separation between us, which makes us practically... awkward second-cousins who don't really talk much. But I'm pretty sure that's close enough to a legitimate connection for us to get a drink.

Isn't alcohol consumption usually the primary activity engaged in by distant, awkward family?

I suppose if you wanted, I could make the time.

[info]tonystarks
2012-09-07 07:43 pm UTC (link)
Exactly. That's where I got the idea. It'll be like a family reunion, but we won't feel obligated to ask lots of questions about distant relatives we don't really remember, and none of my cousins will try to sell me on their "inventions."

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]ifimnothungry

You will be pleased to hear that invention is not one of my hobbies so I won't try and foist anything off onto you.

Thank god. Because I'm out of new ways to explain that no matter how many flames you put on the side of it, a hand-crank hard-boiled-egg-peeler really isn't the sort of thing Stark Industries specializes in.

Yeah, but in my reality, everyone just kind of already knows. Kind of comes with the super hero territory. (Although there is that asshole, Namor, so it's not a guarantee.)

Tony Stark. Good to meet you, Liz.

Superhero, huh? Here I thought most of you justice jockeys were supposed to have some sort of secret identity code.

But I suppose this place doesn't really make it necessary unless you want it to be. Good to meet you, Tony, even if I'm probably a huge disappointment for not being able to marvel over who you are.

[info]tonystarks

Yeah, I've never been that good at keeping secrets. Plus, gets a little more difficult to keep the secret when everyone already knows who you are.

You couldn't possibly disappoint me, Liz. My expectations were nonexistent. (And you seem perfectly nice.)

True enough. Anonymity is the best friend of the abnormally inclined.

That's only because appearances can be deceiving. I'm really a raging bitch. I just play a nice girl on TV.

[info]tonystarks

That it is. Unfortunately, it's not really attainable when you run a fortune 500 company.

Do you? The guy who plays me seems to have also played a nice guy on TV at one point. Although I think he got fired because of a substance abuse problem.

I suppose that would make it a bit tricky.

Those things happen. As long as you pick yourself up and get back on track, then, there really should be no harm, no foul. Though, I don't actually play anyone on TV. I just meant I seem nicer than I really am most of the time.

Certainly didn't help.

I figured. I was kidding. I do that. Although I was sort of serious about the guy who plays me on TV. Although it looks like he got himself cleaned up and became very popular at comic con.
