Entry tags:character: emerson dewitt, character: jack harkness, location: harkness house, thread: complete, |week: 02, ~date: 07/july 16

Who: Jack and DeWitt
Where: Jack's home
When: Week 2, Tuesday, Evening
Why: An old bottle of scotch has to be drunk, and talk of a brand
Warning: Jack Harkness, mentions of slavery. TBA

Ianto had taken to his room in the 'tower' or at least that was what Jack was calling it. It was their time away form one another, Ianto would go to his room and Jack, well...he didn't really have much to do. After thanking Emerson DeWitt for his help he thought, the man was good and funny. He would like to meet this man. He suspected he would be good looking. Drinks with a good looking man? That would be right up Jack's alley.

After Ianto bid him good bye, if only for a short time and closed his door, Jack went down to the cellar. Unlike some vampires he preferred a bed to a coffin and not to be underground. He had black out curtains in his bedroom if he forgot his watch, which he hadn't so far. Jack grabbed the scotch. It had been given to him by on old lover as a parting gift. It only served to keep those memories that Jack wanted gone. He would never want to share the drink with Ianto, it would be liked sharing Ianto with his ex-lover, in some round about way.

He took the scotch back up to the den, before getting two tumblers. Yes he had promised Ianto that there would be minimal spilling and hardly any mess. He was going to keep that or so help him he was sleeping on the couch that night. Jack heard the door and sauntered over to get the door.

Emerson wasn't sure why he was getting so many social calls or even why he was actually inclined to keep them, but he'd been quite the social butterfly lately. This Jack guy might've been a flake with his daylight ring, but he seemed decent enough. And a finely aged bottle of scotch was nothing to turn one's nose up at.

He arrived at Jack's home in his usual ensemble - carefully kept to look like he'd spent absolutely no time on his appearance. He finished his cigarette before he got out of the car, not wanting to litter the vampire's home with his cigarette butts. After knocking on the door, it wasn't long before it was opened. Being that it wasn't Ianto opening it, Emerson could only assume one thing.

"Jack? Emerson DeWitt," he held out his hand.

Jack opened the door to a tall, thin man. Just as Jack assumed he was gorgeous, then again Jack thought everyone was. There was varying degrees of gorgeous for Jack and only one person has hit a 12 on his 1 to 10 scale. Jack shook his hand.

"That would be me. I heard you prefer to be called DeWitt?" he didn't remember what that was, supermarket run where he embarrassed Ianto about the cucumbers or maybe the furniture store where he told Ianto to sit on every desk before he could make a decision. "Do come in." he ushered the man into the spotless home. Then taking him through to the den. "Glad you could come over. My plans for tonight canceled on me."

"Most of the time. It's a privilege to be allowed to call me by my first name," he joked as he followed Jack into the house. It was incredibly neat, and he wondered if that was Ianto's responsibility or if they had a maid.

"You used the magic words. Well, word," Emerson admitted with a grin. "Scotch."

"Yes, well Scotch can get me anywhere is seems." He opened the bottle and poured some into more tumblers and handed on to DeWitt. "This was given to me, the day after it was bottled in early '71. I have been meaning to get rid of the damn thing, but then again it is scotch." He took a mouthful and let is sit in his mouth, tasting the flavors before he swallowed.

"And to answer you question from my journal. I didn't do anything. Ianto decided he wanted some time to himself in his tower. You see he has a room in my home that is his. I never go in there. It is a place that he can feel safe and free from my appetite." Jack grinned. "Which is really my loss."

Emerson inhaled the scent, appreciating the fine quality of an aged scotch before doing much the same as Jack and tasting it before swallowing the drink.

"Haven't any this good in a while. The old man was a bit of a collector of spirits." Alcoholic and... actual spirits, Emerson realized, managing not to frown. He took a look around the den before taking another drink.

"Don't give him too many breaks, huh?"

"I wouldn't say I collect, necessarily, but Ianto might. I have a few bottles down in the cellar for certain occasions." Most of those occasions involved something special between Ianto and Jack. Although they had yet to celebrate moving in with a nice bottle. Maybe he could see Ianto drunk again, it had been very nice last time.

"No, actually. Not that he complains too much. I always up for for him." he chuckled, taking another, smaller drink. "Please tell me he didn't ask you to make some kind of impotency potion or charm. That would really put a kink my sex life." Although that would stop him from explore other avenues of pleasure. He smiled to himself as he thought around it, not that Ianto would do that to him but the idea was something to look into.

Emerson laughed, looking for an available chair or couch to sit on. These two really were more like a married couple than Master and Slave, but it wasn't an old married couple. No, it seemed more like they were on a forever honeymoon if Jack's insatiability wasn't being exaggerated.

"Nothing like that, don't worry. And seriously." Emerson cocked his head slightly to the side, giving Jack a knowing look. "What guy would do that to another guy?"

Jack sat down in his favorite chair and motioned to DeWitt to sit on the couch. He laughed, "One of my old lovers loved to get me certain potions to make me do things. Most of the time it was just a load of fun." He tried to smile, but then sighed. "Sometimes it didn't end well." He shrugged.

"But enough about that I want to talk about the future." He leaned forward. "I want to talk to you about something of a personal nature. You have proven yourself trustworthy." he took the bottle and poured some more into his already half empty glass. "I have been looking into ways of removing brands, but all seem too dangerous and painful. I was hoping you might have a magical way that would be less evasive."

Emerson raised an eyebrow, finding it hard to imagine repeatedly dealing with someone who would all but experiment on them. Still, he supposed if Jack had been game, no harm done? Some people were just adventurous that way.

Talk of the brand set things in a more serious mood. Emerson settled down on the couch, leaning back before taking a drink of the scotch. He swirled the liquid around in the glass, watching its movements with some interest as he listened to Jack. It was the very thing Ianto had mentioned to him the other day.

"Of course it can be done," he said finally. "All manner of magic can heal scarring with enough effort. I don't dabble in blood magic or any of that dark shit, though. I've done healing work before, and it's not so much difficult as it is lengthy. I've gotta get a hold of the right reagents, but the spell's one I've done before." He looked back over at Jack. "He tell you he asked me about it?"

John had always been into trying new things. One the things that Jack had both loved and hated about the fae. Jack took a large gulp from his glass before he sat it down on the coffee table.

"No." Jack shook his head, sitting the glass down. He had tried so hard to make sure Ianto never say any look of disgust to that mark. "What did he ask you? Just to remove it?" It was stupid of Jack not to realized that Ianto much have hated it too.

Oh, so this was something they both wanted that bothered them, but the other didn't know that it... Emerson stopped trying to piece it together, taking another drink instead and nodding.

"I think it bothers him, and he knows it hurts you to look at it," her replied honestly. "Try hard as you want, but he knows you pretty well, I'd say."

Poor Ianto. He should have thought about broaching the subject earlier. He just assumed out of sigh out of mind, but that had been stupid. It was a mark on Ianto's own body, the boy must remember the day it was placed on him. A faint searing pain went through his body as he clenched his fist.

"I just didn't want him to know." He sighed. "Don't ever tell him this, but when I met Ianto he was a shell of what he is now. It took years for him to come back out of that shell." He looked up from the bottle to DeWitt. "Money is no issue and neither is strange foods. If he wants it off, then I want it off even more."

Emerson nodded, his heart going out to the guy, really. It was hard to live with the shadow of anything traumatic hanging over you. It felt like someone was watching you, knowing the whole time things that you didn't want them to know. He knew all too well that feeling. If something he could do might ease it for someone else, he'd be happy to help. It helped dissolve little pieces of his own shadow sometimes to help people with theirs.

"Don't worry about it. I'll give you a receipt for the reagents if you feel like you have to pay something, but I should have a lot of the natural components growing in the garden." He took another drink, fixing Jack with one of those knowing looks. "Yes, I garden."

Jack cracked a small smile. "I didn't say gardening was a bad thing." He picked up his glass and took a drink. "Not a hobby of mine. But then again most of my hobbies are done with a little less clothing. Of which you could do with a little less, show off that body." he winked at him. "I bet it is killer."

Even though it was true, he was trying to deflect from the seriousness of the conversations. He didn't do well with seriousness, he was more of a person that was happy go lucky. "But don't worry, I will keep my hands to myself. I can be a very good boy when the situation calls for it." That, and while other bodies did arouse him he felt no need to have sex with anyone but his Ianto.

"That's what I keep saying, but the majority of Crescent Hills does not seem to agree with the truth," Emerson said with an exaggerated sigh. "Do you give ego boosts for in exchange for magical favors?"

He didn't actually think the compliment was anything more than that. It was pretty obvious to even a simple person the bond between Jack and Ianto.

"I know. With all these rocking bodies, there should be no shame. Then again if there were less clothes then Ianto was make me say in more. He burns easily." He grinned. "And if that is all it will cost then I can boost your ego all day." He made a motion of cheers with his glass and drained it.

"Then again they might have to pass a law for public sex because I am pretty sure I would be engaging in a lot of it." he poured another glass. Not really needing it, he just wanted that damn bottle gone. If they didn't finish it maybe he would send it on with DeWitt.

Emerson had to laugh at the idea. If clothing were optional, he would so crash the next function anyone important held in the nude. Well, he'd think about it at least. He was a little more shy than he let on. Unless he was drinking. Speaking of which, the witch drained his glass after holding it up in cheers.

"You guys are adorable, and that's a compliment coming from me considering adorable usually makes me vomit," Emerson commented. For all Jack's talk of public sex and near-nudity, he was still getting that voracious honeymooning newlyweds feel.

"Well I hope you don't vomit. Ianto would be very cross at the mess, and by cross I mean explosive at me." Jack smiled, looking at his glass. Ianto could work himself up into fits of rage, but that could be dealt with Jack batting his eyes. There was also the occasional helping, but that tended to get Ianto either slightly less angry or more angry. Jack was not good at cleaning, never had been and probably never would be.

"Ianto is the greatest." Jack said. "Not like the guy who gave me this bottle. Now that was a relationship that died before it ended." he was starting to feel the effects of the alcohol. "John was the exact opposite of Ianto, but then again I was not the man I am today."

"You sound slightly afraid, Jack," Emerson said with a laugh. Somehow, he could picture it. Ianto giving Jack hell for not cleaning, and then whatever would ensue after that. It was an entertaining portrait in a world like Crescent Hills.

He went on to talk about someone named John. Ah, the drinking stories had started, hadn't they? Emerson hoped he wouldn't get drunk enough to tell any. Most of his were either painfully embarrassing or morbidly depressing. He held out his glass to Jack. "That sounds like a drinking story to me. Fill 'er up and continue."

"Oh I am. You have have not see hell until you have seen Ianto pissed over a dirty house. He has a bit of OCD." To say a bit was an understatement. "I try my best not to let this place become a mess and he promises not to shove me outside without my amulet." He smiled and poured DeWitt some more more scotch.

"It was only about 20 years after I had been turned. I had just figured out you didn't need to drain a person to feed. John was a half fae. I think you probably know that fae's blood is the most potent in the world. I think that was what drew me in. Well one of the many things."

"I believe it. I think there was talk of stapling it to your arm?" he remarked, all to happy to sit back now that he had another drink to help keep up with the tipsy stories.

Half fae... It was said that their blood was intoxicating to vampires, though he obviously would have no real clue himself not being of the same sort. "I take it wasn't exactly sunshine and roses?"

"Ah, now well...I lose my ring a lot. It never seems to want to stay on my hand." Then again he spent a lot of time in and out of his clothes. There could be the reason. "I prefer watches, more masculine." Not that he cared about all that, but he did like watches better. He always remember them.

Jack barked a bitter laugh. "I wish. At first it was awesome. The sex, the blood." He leaned back in the chair. "Then came the fights, the fight sex and the make up sex. Again, all great. But...there was something missing." He took another drink and leaned up again, pointing at DeWitt. "You know that feeling when you can't stand something, but you would rather die then give it up. That was the most of my relationship with John."

"Well, sex and blood an only get you so far," Emerson remarked with a shrug. "I'm not a vampire, so I obviously wouldn't know, but I can think of some similar parallels. Sometimes the train wrecks are the ones that are hardest to walk away from. You know there's damage, but you never see just how bad it is until you climb out and see it."

The Witch could sympathize somewhat. Perhaps not with the exact nature of Jack's former lover issue, but the sentiment was one he was all to familiar with.

"At the time I was young and I was stupid. First fae I had ever met and I was hooked. I don't quite remember when the relationship started, if you could even call it that." Really it could be called several relationships what with all the breaks they had. "But it was not enough. I wanted something more. The sex was still good, but was sex without substance? Soon even his blood became boring." Jack slumped back into his chair.

"John gave me that bottle, as a sort of going away present. He said we would open it when we never met. For several years after that I had hoped it would be true. That he would waltz into my life like last time. Then I can to hate the bottle and tried to get rid of it numinous times, but...I never could."

Suddenly the liquid in the tumbler glass seemed all the more potent. If Emerson were a poetic man, he might've mused how he felt like he was drinking memories that would never be entirely forgotten. Luckily for the both of them, he wasn't outwardly poetic.

"You sure you want to finish it now?" he had to ask. Honestly, Emerson thought it for the best considering the tumultuous past Jack had with this John guy, but he couldn't be the one to make that decision. People had to really be ready to move on from something, so it was only right to ask.
