Great Oz I didn't mean to do this! I don't know how it happened, I didn't even touch the Grimmerie, but I can't find a way to fix it I'm so sorry I'm trying everything I can.

Yes, mechanical. It is a long story, but something called the mind stone gave me a soul in addition to the mechanics.

I'm not sure if any of the ones where I'm from are sentient or not, though I wouldn't be surprised if they are. I've just never come across one.
