Who: Caroline, Gretchen
What: A job interview.
Where: Excelsior Labs

Candidate #5, Gretchen Dubrovsky; Cornell grad, which is a recommendation in itself, young, ostensibly motivated, as she's here interviewing.  Her resume isn't as full as most places would like to see, but Caroline's less interested in that and more interested in attitude.  And another young computer scientist might make a good mentor for Amy.

She smiles as Gretchen enters the office.  "Come in, and feel free to get some coffee or tea before we get down to business talk.  Make yourself comfortable."

WHO Caroline, Hamilton, Amy and a surprise
WHAT Caroline gets a series of unexpected visits.
WHERE Excelsior Labs, lobby.
WHEN Uh... right now. Whenever that is.
WARNINGS None.

Caroline is busy in the downstairs labs when the building's wards inform her that there is an approaching vehicle containing an Awakened magic user—well, that, or someone using a lot of Forces to move very fast, but considering that she expects Mr. Lyme to show up in the near future, probably in a car, as she's heard he's a Shaman and not a Theurge. And—ah, accompanied by her young friend. How interesting.

She turns to the young woman in charge of the lab. "Pardon me. I need to go take care of something. Carry on." Stripping off her goggles and lab coat as she walks—normally she's uninterested in safety regulations, but it's less of a precaution and more preventing an inevitability in that lab, and she doesn't have time to have her DNA resequenced this week.

"April," she says to the receptionist. Just in case her visitor turns out not to be so friendly: "I'm not expecting a guest, but I seem to have one arriving. Would you mind setting up to make sure they're comfortable?"

The woman nods. "Yes ma'am, Ms. Johnson." A series of key presses, some whirring noises, the gentle click of a safety being unlatched, and a jug of lemonade run over from the breakroom by one of the summer interns later, Caroline thinks preparations are satisfactory.

And just in time. Her guest is about to arrive.

To: Caroline Johnson, Excelsior Labs
From: Hamilton Lyme, Lyme's Finest Foods
Dated: [[One Week Ago]]

Hi Caroline!

My name is Hamilton Lyme and I own a little food and delicacy distribution company called Lyme's Finest Foods. We haven't yet had the pleasure to meet, but I was recommended to you by our mutual friends at the Free Council of Business as the person to contact in Cape City. According to them, you folks at Excelsior Labs are up to some pretty exciting research!

Lyme's Finest is opening a shop in Cape City this coming week, as well as purchasing farmland nearby for production and testing of some new lines of business for us. I'm planning to head down there soon myself, just to oversee the new farms and get some fresh air (hope that's alright!).

I wanted to check in with you and see if you were amenable to showing me around a bit, let me know if that sounds convenient. Hoping to not step on any tails or toes when I arrive.

Best Regards,
Hamilton Lyme

I walk through her streets cause she's my companion [OPEN]

Who: Fatima and YOU
What: Meeting the peoples
Where: Cape City Marshall Museum of Art History
When: Just after sunset

Now that she no longer felt the need to be vampire bait, Fatima had significantly cut down on the whore-factor of her wardrobe. As much as she enjoyed being at the height of fashion, it could get expensive. Sometimes, it was just easier to wear jeans and a tee shirt. And that is exactly what Fatima chose to wear when she left for the museum: Faded white blue jeans, a black, off the shoulder blouse, and one of her mother's old, silver scarves. Casual elegant. That's what Fatima would call it on a party invite. Her long, brown hair was twisted up into a knot, held in place by a pair of silver chopsticks. Completing the look was a silver charm bracelet, skillfully crafted by a Daeva friend. And not just any friend. She was a Facebook friend.

Fatima breezed into the museum, glancing casually at the displays. Really, she had very little patience or care for art. If it was over a hundred years old and couldn't walk or talk, it was generally pretty boring. She was more of a science museum sort of girl, but this was apparently one of the city vampire hangouts. Which made sense. Fossils loved hanging around with other fossils.

Her phone buzzed and Fatima took it out. A text from Prince Stephens: How are things going? Fatima smiled wryly, composing her response. "Things are..." She paused. She wasn't quite sure how to answer. Things were going...slowly, she guessed. Things were...fine? Really, she wasn't sure what to say. She hadn't made any real progress so far. Which would be fine, she supposed, if she were a vampire. But she was a mortal and had a limited amount of time. She wasn't going to waste all of her pretty years stuck in Cape City.

Quickly, she punched out a reply: If you have an ambassador here already, why the fuck did you send me? And with that, she pocketed her phone.

WHO: Caroline Johnson and Amelia Lauren Reese
WHAT: The longer version
WHEN: High noon, after the conversation here
WHERE: Excelsior Labs

Caroline is outside the front doors of Excelsior Labs, waiting, at precisely 11:55 AM. It wouldn't do to be late for something like this, and she's... interested to see what sort of person this "d4yw4lk3r" is.

She leans up against the front of the building and watches.

OPENING EVENT: Steppin' Out!

WHO Everyone!
WHAT The Steppin' Out! Festival
WHERE Everywhere in the city, but specifically an area of downtown near the harbor.
WHEN June 8, 2011 - June 11, 2011
NOTES This counts as a party post -- start your own threads, tag other people, go crazy! This post also marks the opening of Cape City.

Every year, the citizens of Cape City come together in a huge, joyous festival to usher in the summer. Today is the first day of that festival: STEPPIN' OUT.

The roads are jammed with cars heading to and from the festivities.

Several blocks of downtown have been cordoned off, and designated pedestrian-only. The streets are filled with stalls, peddling arts, crafts, food, and many other street fare. There's new music every block, from local to national bands hired for the occasion, and for each set of music there's an area for dancing.

The festival lasts all day and night for four days. Though it tends to be rather less active at night, especially the child-friendly areas.

Oh, and there are t-shirts. They say 'Steppin' Out' and have an old map of the city as the design on the back.

Vampires have been warned not to feed on mortals too obviously. As usual, if you break the Masquerade, you will be blood-hunted.
