Event Details!

On the night of August 14th, characters have the chance of participating in any of the following events, but please be aware that all three events are happening simultaneously. Thus, it will be unrealistic for one character to participate in most of one scene, and then participate in most of a second one.

UPDATE: ALSO. Multiple threads are completely fine, we'll merge them as it makes sense. OR, if it makes sense, feel free to be in two threads at once, in one scene, if your character will definitely be moving from one to the other.

UPDATE 2: Doing things to minor NPCs. So yes. Feel free to control bystanders, randos, mooks, etc. If your character is badass and kill people during fights, I mean, feel free to do it. Only when you run into major NPCs or more questionable situations do you need to ask an ST during these event scenes.

Okay, now let's get to the good stuff. Regardless of where you are, around 3 a.m. in the morning, the following events can be noticed by any character (you can decide how):

1. Midnight Mass
You hear screaming coming from the Bishop's church, where midnight mass is held on a weekly basis. Sirens are blazing through the city. Large amounts of smoke are gushing into the sky.

2. Invictus Clan Meeting
It's no small secret that the Invictus run this town, and they meet in Elysium, the top floor of the Keeper's Palace hotel. Through whatever means of communication, the kindred of Cape City are gossiping that Demosthenes himself will be crashing this specific meeting. The Prince is expected to be there.

---

This final event is harder to know about, but certainly not impossible, especially to those characters particularly close to the Mekhet underground. Contact an ST if your character would like to be a part of this scene from the beginning.

3. Palace, Underground Floors
The Mekhet have been navigating and creating passages throughout Cape City's underground infrastructure for months. Tonight, they'll be raiding the basement of the Palace, and hopefully taking back some of the Mekhet they've lost.

Change in City Rules

Hey guys, Sisi here.

I've realized that in the City Rules, we were still referring to an oWoD system regarding blood-binding. Thus, I've changed the last City Rule to reflect nWoD blood-binding rules to say:

  • In order to live in this city, you must maintain second-stage Vinculum with the Prince at all times. Those who enter the city and refuse to be blood bound may leave. Those who do not leave will immediately be bloodhunted. Unverified rumors say city officials maintain third-stage Vinculum with the Prince.

  • I don't believe this affects anyone's backstory, but if it does, don't hesitate to contact me. And of course, these rules only apply to kindred, unless you've given the government a reason to need to use Vinculum.

To help you guys out, here's a description of what each tier of the Vinculum feels like to you. Please keep in mind though, that if your character hasn't seriously investigated Vinculum before, you will not know the duration details or how it feels to be further bound than you already are. Finally, understanding the implications of Dominate regarding Tier 3 requires ST approval.

    Tier 1:
Man, your blood tastes good. I'm mildly interested in you, but man, your blood.

    Tier 2:
You are an important figure in my unlife, but I am not your slave. Perhaps feel affection, trust, admiration, or protectiveness. Attacking you or harming your interests will mean penalties for me. Regnant gains +1 on all social draws.

    Tier 3:
The Vinculum is complete (most cases). I love you. Perhaps I hate that I love you, but I can't help myself. Attacking you or harming your interests means serious penalties for me -- or depending on the situation, may not be possible at all. Regnant gains +2 on all social draws. Regnants can use any level of Dominate on their thralls (except Conditioning) through voice command alone.

If your character is Acknowledged in the city, you are at Tier 2. (Public Knowledge) If you are a City Official, you are at Tier 3. (NOT public knowledge. Speculation is okay, but very hard to verify.)

    Duration
At any level, the amount of time it takes the connection to fade simply because no blood has been consumed:

    Mortals: 1 year
    Kindred: 50 years

    NPC Backstories

If you want your character to have a backstory and established relationship with an NPC, please contact the mod who plays that NPC and work it out before you log with them.

    Awesome!

See you guys at opening, in half an hour.

    HOW TO ROLEPLAY

Hey, guys! Sisi and I have gone through the How to Roleplay on Insanejournal post, and we've improved the instructions somewhat. This should make it clear how to use a site like Insanejournal to roleplay effectively.

    The post is here!

OMG YOU GUYS ARE WRITING FICTION

Listen, guys. Through random stumbles, we've realized that some of you are writing fiction about your characters and posting them to your character journals.

DUDE GUYS. POST LINKS TO THOSE STORIES HERE. Or even post them here, if you'd like. Also, feel free to ship people. And comment. And have silly silly fun.

I'm sure that we're not the only ones who would love to read your fictions!

    City Positions and Minor NPCs

As we approach the beginning of game, the mods will be creating a set of minor NPCs to fill the rest of our cast.

These NPCs will be introduced as they are needed. However, our goal is to play these NPCs as infrequently as possible, in order to allow you guys to pitch city positions, even after the game begins.

When you pitch a city position, feel free to pitch them as (1) having always been that position, or (2) being newly appointed as that position. If you pitch 2, make sure your backstory/application explains why Alexander would pick your character for that position. If we approve, then we'll approve your character as well as that appointment all at once.

Depending on player actions, some minor NPCs may become major NPCs. If this occurs, then you will need to pitch a character and then actively campaign the Prince to steal the title from its current owner. :)

    Query: IRC

Would anyone find it useful to have an IRC channel for general chat and running large-scale IC events? Because I could set one up.

    YOUR IRC INFO:
    Server: irc.darkmyst.org
    Channel: #capecity

IRC Use Tutorial | List of IRC Clients by OS | Web Client

If you're a mod and you register a nickname using NickServ, lemme know and I'll promote you to channel op next time we're both on. (See nickname instructions below)

    RECOMMENDED CLIENTS

For Macs, I recommend Adium, Colloquy or Limechat. For Windows, IDK, because most of their clients look pretty terrible, but I use Pidgin when I'm on Windows, which is cross-platform. LeafChat seems kind of okay, and there's also Trillian, which supports IRC.

If you're a Firefox use, you may want to look up Chatzilla.

TO REGISTER A NICKNAME: sign on to the server with your desired nickname, and then type:

    /msg NickServ REGISTER [password] [email]

You should get an activation email shortly. Click the link, and then you should be good to go.

If for some reason your permissions aren't working when you sign on, check the console to see if the server identified you properly. If you're not ID'd, type this:

    /msg NickServ IDENTIFY [nickname] [password]

and that should get you id'd properly.

    OTHER COOL STUFF

The channel also has some handy RPG-playing tools and some other silly games.

    Type `NWOD [#dice] to roll #dice d10s and get a success count.
    Type `ROLL [#dice]d[#sides] to roll #dice #sides-sided dice and get a total.
Type `SPIN or `BOTTLE to play spin the bottle with the people in the channel.
Type `EIGHTBALL [query] to get an answer from the magic 8-ball.
Type `CALC [expression] to get a calculation.
Type `RPS for rock-paper-scissors. (For those of you that miss chops.)
Type `WOD [#dice] [difficulty] to do an old-style WoD roll of #dice with a particular difficulty.

You can have a private conversation by using /msg [nickname] [message].
