Eleven twenty-nine pm finds fifth, sixth, and seventh year students dutifully peering into the heavens and scribbling down star charts. But for the occasional whispers and staccato of Professor Sinistra's shoes across the stone floor, everything is silent.

One student squints at the rush of light across her lens.


The noise and shaking of the entire castle belies the beautiful glow of orange and red that smears out across the horizon, and there is a moment before anyone realises what is going on. The ground shakes again, and again. The screams of Hogsmeade's siren are followed suddenly by the ominous clang of Hogwart's air-raid bell. Nobody in that room has any misconceptions about this being another drill.

At 1 am, the Hogwarts air raid siren sounded. Hufflepuff and Slytherin students would be expected to go into their common rooms, and Gryffindor and Ravenclaw students would be expected to go to their designated spots. Once the students were (theoretically) where they were supposed to be, there was a roll call, and when everyone was accounted for, the students were to return back to their dorms to sleep.

Dippet intended for the prefects and staff to keep to themselves the fact that it was a drill, and it should be taken seriously.

Edit: additional evacuation notes.

• There is a warm, wet spot on a Slytherin chair.
• A Hufflepuff fourth year and a Ravenclaw third year are missing. They may or may not be dating each other.
• A rumor starts spreading after a Gryffindor Muggleborn firstie suffers a nosebleed during the process that the Slytherin common room's "anti-Muggleborn wards" caused the injury.
