This Is Not My Beautiful House Party Thread
Who: Sam and Ellen, to start but OPEN TO ALL*
What: Sam's throwing a party for all the PCs
When: One Evening, Don't Get So Caught Up In Technicalities
Rating/Warnings: YELLOW to start, we'll see. If it turns into an orgy, we'll revisit this.

A/N: *I cannot emphasize this enough. OPEN TO ALL. I want a big, sprawling mess of a thread, like all the conversations at a big party. Indulge me!

Sam opened the door to find a woman standing in the hallway holding several cases of beer with no apparent difficulty. He recognized her from her icon on the Avengers Network. "You must be Ellen." He stepped aside, "Please come in."

She stepped inside and he closed the door. She glanced around the apartment. "Where should I put these?"

Sam led her to the kitchen. "You know that you're on set-up duty now, right?"

Ellen nodded. "I know. I came early because I wanted to discuss a possible project with you."

"The super fight club you texted me about?"

"Yeah. I've figured out where it's happening. Gamora and I are planning to get inside. But as it's held on a rooftop I thought another pair of eyes overhead wouldn't hurt. So I thought of you."

Sam put her to work loading beers into several large coolers while he chopped vegetables and filled bowls with various munchies. Ellen described what she'd learned, and what she hoped to accomplish by infiltrating the fight club.

"You really think the bad guys will show up?" Sam was dubious. "If it's as hard to find as you say, what makes you think they'll be there?"

Ellen shrugged. "It's worth a shot. Even if the bad guys don't make an appearance, it's an opportunity to meet some other metahumans, do some networking, find out of they know anything about these bad guys. Maybe even recruit some of them to help find and stop the bad guys."

Sam thought about it. "Okay, I'm in."

The conversation moved on to other topics at that point. Ellen told him her history with Stark, and Sam shared his as well ("I never actually tried to kill Tony," he said, "though the thought did cross my mind a time or two while in the Raft."). They moved on to speculation on other members of the Network that neither had actually met. Sam found Ellen to have a dry sense of humor, and a surprisingly good grasp of his pop culture references--at least those that predated her "death" in 2012.

By the time the doorbell chimed, everything was in place and Sam and Ellen were sitting in his living room drinking beers. Sam got up and headed for the door. "It's showtime!"

[Lady Sif]

2018-04-28 09:07 pm UTC (link)
It had been a long time since Sif had last attended a celebration of any sort that she felt like this opportunity was one too good to miss out on. The last few weeks had been trying at best and it would not go amiss to enjoy herself for a few hours and forget the rest of everything.

She did not know what garb was acceptable at Midgardian events and so had opted for a dress and shoes that would make most people's eyes water and made her way to the address left on the invitation.

Sif was alone but she did not feel intimidated as she had faced much greater odds and foes than an unfamiliar face and an unfamiliar place. She raised her hand and knocked as it would be impolite to simply let herself in to somebody's home and despite all evidence to the contrary she could conduct herself like a lady.

Hopefully this celebration would be one to remember.

"And so, it begins," Sam said in his most portentous voice. Ellen snorted, and almost did a spit take with her beer.

Mission accomplished, Sam opened the door. He'd made a point of studying everyone's icons on the network so he recognized Sif, though her icon didn't do her justice.

"Welcome to my home, Lady Sif," he said. He stepped back, gesturing for her to enter with one hand. "Enter freely and of your own will."

From deeper in the apartment, Ellen said, "Dracula? Really?"

The Dracula reference went over Sif's head as you might expect as she was not as familiar with Midgardian references as both Thor and Loki who had spent so much time with them that they were almost speaking the same language.

"Thank you, Sam." She said with a smile as she passed over the threshold and headed into his home, dark eyes quickly assessing it to determine all entrances and exits because she was nothing if not a soldier and warrior first and foremost. It was wise to be aware of your surroundings and to know where you could move to if required.

And an Asgardian never came to any celebration or feast empty handed so she produced the bottle of whiskey she had procured earlier that day. "A gift," she said as she presented it to Sam.

"And an excellent gift it is," Sam replied, taking in the label. This was some very good whiskey. "Thank you."

"Lady Sif, this is Ellen Brandt," he said as Ellen stood to walk over and greet her. "Ellen, Lady Sif."

Sam walked over to place the bottle of whiskey on a bar in the corner amongst a large assortment of other spirits. "May I offer you something to drink?"

Loki arrived with Darcy on his arm, dressed in a well tailored black suit. He too brought a gift of a bottle of fine wine, which he tucked into the crook of his arm as he knocked upon the door.

If anything, he didn't expect a network party to not have copious amounts of alcohol involved, considering the last festivity ended up with their apartment set on fire and an eviction notice. Sadly, Loki hadn't brought a bottle of that which Stark dubbed 'rocket fuel' made for Asgardians. That was safely tucked away where Loki kept his things, and no one else ran the risk of instant liver failure if consumed, undiluted.

He waited patiently with Darcy for the door to be opened.

Sam opened the door to find Loki and Darcy...Lewis. It took him a moment to remember her last name. He knew of her from Thor and Tony, but had never met her before. Loki, of course, needed no introduction.

"Welcome, Loki. And you as well, Darcy. Please come in."

He closed the door. "Loki, I believe you know Sif. Darcy, I'm not sure if you've met her or not. In any case, my other guest is Ellen Brandt. Ellen, Loki, Sif, and Darcy Lewis."

Loki led Darcy in and nodded to Ellen, before looking at Sif with a fond smile. He nodded to her as well, more of a formal gesture, and definitely not inclining his head down to look at the expanse of bared legs she was displaying for all to see. He'd only ever seen Sif in armor, so this was definitely...different. Different was a good word for that. It might also qualify as different that Loki was still staring for longer than necessary.

After a faint cough, Loki smiled over at Darcy and then turned his full attention to Sam. If all else failed, Frigga instilled excellent manners upon her youngest son, adopted or not, and Loki could be incredibly polite when he put his mind to it.

"What a pleasure it is to meet you both." He held out the bottle to Sam. "For you. In return for your hospitality. I was told it is an excellent vintage."

No one had to invite Darcy Lewis to a party twice. She was going to go, even if Loki hadn't wanted to. It would be nice to see everyone though. She smiled at Sam, "Hey Sam, thanks for inviting us." She gave a little wave to Ellen, and when she looked up at Sif, she was thoroughly impressed. Though of course she couldn't help but see the way Loki was eyeing her up and down.

She nudged him with her elbow. "Yep, Sif and I go way back. Hey, Lady. Apparently both of us think you look smokin hot." Darcy winked at Sif and then gave Loki a pointed look.

"And now I definitely need a drink."

The dynamic trio as Clint had coined them had arrived at the party not too long after both Loki and Darcy. Sam had been a gracious host in seeing them in and then after a quick catch up they'd let him get back to moving around the party and living his life.

"Here's hoping no death bots this time around," Clint quipped as he helped himself to a liberal handful of Doritos which he washed down with beer. This time however he didn't have Maria Hill to keep him company as he had done at the last party. Course that hadn't stopped him from finding something to twirl around in his fingers because well obviously.

Steve arched his eyebrows. "Amen to that. I really could do without." Especially given recent events, the less drama the better. He was going to swing in on Peggy after this party (that was if she didn't come) to see how she was doing and make sure she was alright.

"No deathbots at this party," Sam said, approaching the trio. "I promise."

He was unsurprised when Natasha had turned in his direction before he spoke. In a roomful of people she undoubtedly knew where everyone was--and who was walking up behind her. He grinned and nodded at her.

He clapped Clint and Steve each on the shoulder. "I promise. I'm glad y'all could make it."

Natasha watched Sam approaching; even in a situation like this where they were supposed to be safe she couldn't unwind, didn't relax because it was important she didn't let her guard down. After all, a promise or not there was no guarantee this wouldn't get crashed by someone unpleasant.

As it was, it was just Sam approaching with a warm smile and an equally warm hand clapping on Clint and Steve's shoulders.

"Pretty sure there weren't meant to be murder-bots at the last party," she pointed out with a chuckle, "I'm impressed at the spread you've put on, Sam, you're in the wrong job. Party planning needs you," she teased.

[Pietro & Wanda]

Pietro did love a good party so when the invitation was extended he'd eagerly insisted that he and Wanda needed to go, have fun, and forget their worries for a night. She was a little reluctant but after a little - read: alot - of coaxing she had finally given in and the Maximoff siblings had made themselves at home in the party venue.

Though quite honestly no snack or drink was safe as long as Pietro was around because he was in a fact a thieving blur that was happily and merrily making himself comfortable with other people's food and drink. He'd already whizzed past the table and helped himself though he did snatch up enough food for a sizeable plate that when he came to a sudden hair moving stop beside Wanda.

"Food," he said with a cheeky grin.

Sam plucked a chip from the platter Pietro held and popped it in his mouth.

"Hello, Pietro, Wanda," he said when he'd eaten it. "You're both looking good. Thanks for coming."

He gave the plateful of food a glance, then inclined his head toward the open doorway that led to the kitchen. "When and if the snacks start running low, I've got the numbers for a bunch of delivery restaurants taped on the wall by the phone. Great thing about New York, you can get any kind of food you want any time of day. Feel free to order. They all know to expect it."

Wanda laughed softly at the plate of food that had appeared out of nowhere, and was about to talk to Pietro about how ill-gotten 80% of the food was when Sam decided to join them. She eyed him as he helped himself to food off the plate and fought back that instictive reaction that she still had even though food had not been scarce for a number of years, now.

"As the host," she told him with a small smile, taking a chip from the plate herself and holding it in her hand, "should you not be calling the take out places?" Her tone was gentle, and teasing.

She glanced at Pietro and gestured to the plate he was holding, "How much of this food was stolen from others' plates and how much was from the table?"

Tony & Pepper
[info]the_iron_man

Tony Stark liked big entrances. If there was copious amounts of grandstanding and bravado involved, and a beautiful woman on his arm (i.e. Pepper), then he was in his element. What he hadn't done in a good long while was go to parties. They were what Tony thought of as fashionably late, although there had been a lot of bickering back and forth in the car about directions and the like. The usual exasperated but fond banter the trio had with one another. What he wasn't fond of was knocking on doors, so he was now expectantly staring at the side of Happy's head.

"Yeah. You need to get on that door."

"I'm on the door," Happy said, unhappily. "I've got the door. I'm knocking."

"You didn't knock yet. That's the prob," Tony countered while pointing at Happy's clenched fist, knuckles hovering about two inches away from woodwork. "What is this? Why is this? Just knock. Knock on it. Knock. Knock knock knockknockknock...."

"Wait! What if there's explosives on the other side and it's rigged to blow."

"Then you do what you did that one time and you jump on me. And I'll jump on Pep. Everyone's jumped on." Tony tilted his head back to stare up at the ceiling, looking like he was nearing his wits end. "Knock. I'm not touching that. Other people have touched it. Knock or turn the handle. I swear, this is because you took the long way around. "

"Don't you blame that on me. It was a safer route."

"I told you to take that right and you hit every stoplight." Tony stopped talking to the ceiling and grasped Happy by the elbow and bonked his body guard's fist against the door. "Ok. Done. Good job. We lived! You're welcome."

Happy rolled his eyes as he walked off, grumbling. The only decipherable phrase was, "I'm waiting in the car."

"Yeah, you do that. You go wait, read a road map, and sing those one hit wonders as poorly as possible." Before Happy could get out of earshot, Tony tried to get the last word in, edgewise. "Hey. Hey! You're monotone! Put a finger in one ear and listen to yourself!"

Happy gave him the middle finger instead.

Mission to keep Happy happy accomplished. Tony grinned cheekily at Pepper and waited for the door to open. It would be a big entrance for the future Mr. and Mrs. Stark. Time to shine.

"Door!" A chorus of voices rose to inform Sam that someone had knocked. Good thing, too, as he was too far from the door to hear it over the buzz of conversation.

He wove his way through the crowd, checked the peephole, and grinned. He opened the door.

His face fell. "Oh. It's you." Held it for a beat, just long enough to give Tony time to react, then grinned broadly. "I'm kidding! Good to see you man, come on in. You, too, Pepper. You look lovely, as always."

"Caw caw," Tony said by way of a greeting, with a lopsided smile. "Good to see you too, Wilson."

He led Pepper inside and turned just enough to face Sam, not letting go of Pep's hand. It certainly didn't seem like there were too many hard feelings, although Tony was still eyeing him and everyone else with scrutiny, as though looking for cracks under the surface of everything. He even glanced around, deemed it safe enough to proceed with being his usual obnoxious self.

"You know you're probably gonna regret doing this. It's a powder keg waiting to blow. Bust out the s'mores. Hey, has Banner shown up? No, wait. Is Dumbledore here yet?" He looked around but didn't see anyone wearing a red cape. He called out, "I demand a balloon animal!"

When no one said anything, Tony pouted and shrugged. Maybe someday.

No way was Bobbi going to miss this. Not only was it a chance to unwind a little without being freaked out about arriving here, but it was also a chance to take a covert census of who was here. And more importantly, who might be receptive to the re-emergence of SHIELD.

There were only a handful of people who would have observed Bobbi slipping in. It was just something she'd done a million times before that she would have to consciously think about not being sneaky. To anyone else it seemed as if she had always been standing near the beverages with a glass of white wine in her hand. Dressed casually in skinny jeans, riding boots and a light sweater she looked like any other pretty woman at any other social engagement.

Ellen had moved behind the bar, the better to meet everyone as they approached to get a drink or a refill. She knew very few of the other people on the Network. Gamora, Clint, Spider-Man, and Stark. And Sam, of course. But that was about it.

So she wasn't surprised that she didn't know the attractive blonde in the jeans and sweater. It took her a moment to place her face from the Network. "I'd offer you a drink," she said to her, "but you already have one."

Jane arrived alone, still unsure whether her time might not be better spent in the lab. She wasn't always great at big parties and so many of these people didn't feel connected to her life yet. It was like being the new kid at school, before you had anyone to eat lunch with.

Except Darcy. Darcy would have nagged her if she stayed home with her nose shoved in her research. So she went, with jeans and a purple flannel passing as party clothes.

Ellen opened the apartment door to find an another attractive woman--and what was it with this Network, that everyone she'd met so far was so attractive?--a brunette, standing there looking like she'd rather be anywhere else. This had to be Doctor Foster. Thor's girlfriend. Or was she his ex? Ellen wasn't clear on that.

She'd arrived alone, though, so she'd assume ex until proven wrong. And avoid any mention of the subject at all, even better.

Karen didn't know anything about being here. She didn't know one of these people. And she felt awkward now that everyone she really knew was gone. The only person she knew now was Trish and Jess and they clearly had their own thing going on. Not to mention that Jess was a handful and a nightmare. She was staying away from all of that.

There wasn't even Foggy to have drinks with. So she was here, trying to just mingle. She grabbed a drink and just people watched. There was definitely something dramatic happening with some of the people who were around.

Maybe she could just blend into the background.
