This Is Not My Beautiful House Party Thread
Who: Sam and Ellen, to start but OPEN TO ALL*
What: Sam's throwing a party for all the PCs
When: One Evening, Don't Get So Caught Up In Technicalities
Rating/Warnings: YELLOW to start, we'll see. If it turns into an orgy, we'll revisit this.

A/N: *I cannot emphasize this enough. OPEN TO ALL. I want a big, sprawling mess of a thread, like all the conversations at a big party. Indulge me!

Sam opened the door to find a woman standing in the hallway holding several cases of beer with no apparent difficulty. He recognized her from her icon on the Avengers Network. "You must be Ellen." He stepped aside, "Please come in."

She stepped inside and he closed the door. She glanced around the apartment. "Where should I put these?"

Sam led her to the kitchen. "You know that you're on set-up duty now, right?"

Ellen nodded. "I know. I came early because I wanted to discuss a possible project with you."

"The super fight club you texted me about?"

"Yeah. I've figured out where it's happening. Gamora and I are planning to get inside. But as it's held on a rooftop I thought another pair of eyes overhead wouldn't hurt. So I thought of you."

Sam put her to work loading beers into several large coolers while he chopped vegetables and filled bowls with various munchies. Ellen described what she'd learned, and what she hoped to accomplish by infiltrating the fight club.

"You really think the bad guys will show up?" Sam was dubious. "If it's as hard to find as you say, what makes you think they'll be there?"

Ellen shrugged. "It's worth a shot. Even if the bad guys don't make an appearance, it's an opportunity to meet some other metahumans, do some networking, find out of they know anything about these bad guys. Maybe even recruit some of them to help find and stop the bad guys."

Sam thought about it. "Okay, I'm in."

The conversation moved on to other topics at that point. Ellen told him her history with Stark, and Sam shared his as well ("I never actually tried to kill Tony," he said, "though the thought did cross my mind a time or two while in the Raft."). They moved on to speculation on other members of the Network that neither had actually met. Sam found Ellen to have a dry sense of humor, and a surprisingly good grasp of his pop culture references--at least those that predated her "death" in 2012.

By the time the doorbell chimed, everything was in place and Sam and Ellen were sitting in his living room drinking beers. Sam got up and headed for the door. "It's showtime!"

No way was Bobbi going to miss this. Not only was it a chance to unwind a little without being freaked out about arriving here, but it was also a chance to take a covert census of who was here. And more importantly, who might be receptive to the re-emergence of SHIELD.

There were only a handful of people who would have observed Bobbi slipping in. It was just something she'd done a million times before that she would have to consciously think about not being sneaky. To anyone else it seemed as if she had always been standing near the beverages with a glass of white wine in her hand. Dressed casually in skinny jeans, riding boots and a light sweater she looked like any other pretty woman at any other social engagement.

Ellen had moved behind the bar, the better to meet everyone as they approached to get a drink or a refill. She knew very few of the other people on the Network. Gamora, Clint, Spider-Man, and Stark. And Sam, of course. But that was about it.

So she wasn't surprised that she didn't know the attractive blonde in the jeans and sweater. It took her a moment to place her face from the Network. "I'd offer you a drink," she said to her, "but you already have one."

"I'm Ellen. Ellen Brandt. And you're...Bobbie Morse. Nice to meet you."

Bobbi turned when she heard a woman speak to her. She smiled to see the red head she had spoken to briefly the day she'd arrived, and lifted her wine glass.

"Hey," she said in return. "Nice to meet you, Ellen. And yeah. No one should have to work the bar at a party like this." She chuckled as she took a sip. "People can help themselves."

"True," Ellen said, "but it gives me an excuse to meet people when they come to the bar for a refill. I actually know very few of the people here.

She poured a couple of drinks for two people who had approached while she spoke to Bobbi, and made small talk with them while she worked. When they had wandered off again, she turned back to Bobbi.

"See? They were just names and icon pics on the Network before. Now I've actually met them."

"Hey, I only know most of them by reputation." And profile statistics, but no reason to bring that into the conversation. "So that's why I came. Put faces to the names. Maybe get to know people." Bobbi shrugged.

She stepped to the side to let the people in so they could get their drinks. Bobbi watched Ellen handle it all, mentally filing away her interaction, social behaviors. Things of that nature. Just like with sneaking in, it was all just habit. Bobbi wasn't even completely aware she was doing it.

"These things are good for that," Bobbi said with a grin. "Most of us aren't the relaxing kind."

Ellen put together a frozen strawberry dacquiri, then took a healthy swallow of it. She grinned at Bobbi. "I know a bartender isn't supposed to be his own customer, but as I'm just an amateur I think it's okay."

"Not the relaxing kind?" she continued. "No kidding."

She looked around the room. "Captains of industry, CEOs, obsessed scientists, special forces guys." She gave Bobbi a sidelong look. "Spies and spymasters."

"None of them are the sort to lie on a beach with a nice drink and ogle attractive people. Not very often, anyhow."
