This Is Not My Beautiful House Party Thread
Who: Sam and Ellen, to start but OPEN TO ALL*
What: Sam's throwing a party for all the PCs
When: One Evening, Don't Get So Caught Up In Technicalities
Rating/Warnings: YELLOW to start, we'll see. If it turns into an orgy, we'll revisit this.

A/N: *I cannot emphasize this enough. OPEN TO ALL. I want a big, sprawling mess of a thread, like all the conversations at a big party. Indulge me!

Sam opened the door to find a woman standing in the hallway holding several cases of beer with no apparent difficulty. He recognized her from her icon on the Avengers Network. "You must be Ellen." He stepped aside, "Please come in."

She stepped inside and he closed the door. She glanced around the apartment. "Where should I put these?"

Sam led her to the kitchen. "You know that you're on set-up duty now, right?"

Ellen nodded. "I know. I came early because I wanted to discuss a possible project with you."

"The super fight club you texted me about?"

"Yeah. I've figured out where it's happening. Gamora and I are planning to get inside. But as it's held on a rooftop I thought another pair of eyes overhead wouldn't hurt. So I thought of you."

Sam put her to work loading beers into several large coolers while he chopped vegetables and filled bowls with various munchies. Ellen described what she'd learned, and what she hoped to accomplish by infiltrating the fight club.

"You really think the bad guys will show up?" Sam was dubious. "If it's as hard to find as you say, what makes you think they'll be there?"

Ellen shrugged. "It's worth a shot. Even if the bad guys don't make an appearance, it's an opportunity to meet some other metahumans, do some networking, find out of they know anything about these bad guys. Maybe even recruit some of them to help find and stop the bad guys."

Sam thought about it. "Okay, I'm in."

The conversation moved on to other topics at that point. Ellen told him her history with Stark, and Sam shared his as well ("I never actually tried to kill Tony," he said, "though the thought did cross my mind a time or two while in the Raft."). They moved on to speculation on other members of the Network that neither had actually met. Sam found Ellen to have a dry sense of humor, and a surprisingly good grasp of his pop culture references--at least those that predated her "death" in 2012.

By the time the doorbell chimed, everything was in place and Sam and Ellen were sitting in his living room drinking beers. Sam got up and headed for the door. "It's showtime!"

Loki arrived with Darcy on his arm, dressed in a well tailored black suit. He too brought a gift of a bottle of fine wine, which he tucked into the crook of his arm as he knocked upon the door.

If anything, he didn't expect a network party to not have copious amounts of alcohol involved, considering the last festivity ended up with their apartment set on fire and an eviction notice. Sadly, Loki hadn't brought a bottle of that which Stark dubbed 'rocket fuel' made for Asgardians. That was safely tucked away where Loki kept his things, and no one else ran the risk of instant liver failure if consumed, undiluted.

He waited patiently with Darcy for the door to be opened.

Sam opened the door to find Loki and Darcy...Lewis. It took him a moment to remember her last name. He knew of her from Thor and Tony, but had never met her before. Loki, of course, needed no introduction.

"Welcome, Loki. And you as well, Darcy. Please come in."

He closed the door. "Loki, I believe you know Sif. Darcy, I'm not sure if you've met her or not. In any case, my other guest is Ellen Brandt. Ellen, Loki, Sif, and Darcy Lewis."

Loki led Darcy in and nodded to Ellen, before looking at Sif with a fond smile. He nodded to her as well, more of a formal gesture, and definitely not inclining his head down to look at the expanse of bared legs she was displaying for all to see. He'd only ever seen Sif in armor, so this was definitely...different. Different was a good word for that. It might also qualify as different that Loki was still staring for longer than necessary.

After a faint cough, Loki smiled over at Darcy and then turned his full attention to Sam. If all else failed, Frigga instilled excellent manners upon her youngest son, adopted or not, and Loki could be incredibly polite when he put his mind to it.

"What a pleasure it is to meet you both." He held out the bottle to Sam. "For you. In return for your hospitality. I was told it is an excellent vintage."

No one had to invite Darcy Lewis to a party twice. She was going to go, even if Loki hadn't wanted to. It would be nice to see everyone though. She smiled at Sam, "Hey Sam, thanks for inviting us." She gave a little wave to Ellen, and when she looked up at Sif, she was thoroughly impressed. Though of course she couldn't help but see the way Loki was eyeing her up and down.

She nudged him with her elbow. "Yep, Sif and I go way back. Hey, Lady. Apparently both of us think you look smokin hot." Darcy winked at Sif and then gave Loki a pointed look.

"And now I definitely need a drink."

"Thank you," Sam said to Loki, taking the wine from him. "I look forward to trying this."

He added it what he suspected would be a rapidly growing collection on the bar. "Nice to meet you both," he said to them. Turning his attention to Darcy, he asked, "You have but to ask. Any preferences?"

Loki winced at the elbow nudge and pointed look. Not because it hurt, but because it was a hint that Darcy might not be pleased. He smiled and laughed like nothing was amiss, lifting a shoulder and trying to play it off as a simple misunderstanding. He even shot Sif a somewhat apologetic glance.

"That really isn't true," the God of Mischief, Chaos, and Lies was saying about them both thinking Sif looked smoking hot. He too looked at Darcy as though he was trying to gauge her mood by what she requested to drink.

Sif gave Darcy a smile though arched an eyebrow at her comments but she appreciate the compliment. "Thank you, Darcy. You as well look... smoking hot." Hopefully she had used that correctly but she wasn't sure if she had, but still Darcy did look very lovely, it would be impolite of her to not say anything.

"That you do not think I look... nice?" Sif queried, eyebrow lifted.

There was really no good way out of the hole Loki was in, just a slightly better of two very bad outcomes

Loki was looking at Darcy. However, his eyes were widening with each passing second as he realized how conversationally cornered he was. He wondered if he should text Thor and see if he was coming, and how swiftly he could be there. But calling for brotherly backup was stooping too low for Loki's proud self. He told himself he could smooth talk his way out of this sticky situation with both his incredibly plucky and gorgeous girlfriend, and the long-time (equally gorgeous) recipient of his unrequited affections.

"Surely you know I would never insinuate such a thing. Rather, I think you are adequately attired for tonight's revelries," was Loki's supremely diplomatic reply, as he attempted to not look in Sif's direction and focusing on Darcy. "Which I am certain we are all looking forward to."

Then he glanced. It was fleeting. Momentary. Less than five seconds. More like his eyes flickered over toward Sif's face and noted that raised eyebrow, before he looked away again. And it was easy to look away, because he looked at Sam and then Ellen in a way that wasn't quite pleading for guidance. Very close, though.

"If you have any strong drink," he told Sam in a low voice whilst smiling, trying to keep his lips from moving too much, "I believe I'm in dire need of it."

It wasn't entirely unenjoyable to watch the God of Mischief squirm, caught as he was between two lovely ladies giving him the side eye. Sam smiled to himself as he prepared drinks. When he was done, he moved out from behind the bar to deliver drinks.

"Milady," he said, handing Sif her drink. Darcy was next. He handed her a different but equally tasty whiskey.

"This is nowhere near as strong as the stuff Thor brought to our last party," he told Loki, "but it will have to do." It was white lightning, some genuine homemade bootleg liquor an acquaintance had given him, and the most potent alcohol he possessed. "Enjoy."

Said God of Mischief was trying to remain standing perfectly still and look as regal as possible, and not squirm around due to copious amounts of internal discomfort.

"You have my eternal gratitude," Loki said with a relieved sigh, taking the glass and a very generous drink soon after. "Ah, yes. This shall suffice."

While Midgardian alcohol was weak, this would suffice for the time being. It didn't taste good, but the last time he mixed 'party punch', the resulting aftermath left a worst taste in his mouth than this alcohol did.

"Thank you," Sif said to Sam as he handed her a drink which she was grateful as apparently she looked "adequate" and that was most definitely not what any woman regardless of her strength wanted to hear.

At least Darcy thought she looked "smoking hot".

"I bid you farewell," Sif said to the gathered crowd, "I feel the need of absence quite keenly." She gave both Darcy and Sam a parting smile though a withering look was saved for the God of Mischief.

And with a distinct sway of her hips she vanished back into the rest of the party.

Loki considered 'satisfactory and acceptable' to be neutral enough, and it was the only word his mind could seize hold of in this situation that wouldn't seem inflammatory. That's why he looked thoroughly perplexed and more than a little wounded at Sif's open admonishment, and whatever Darcy might say or do next. It was hard to tell, because Darcy was as chaotic as he was.

He quickly downed what Sam gave him and fetched the homemade liquor, pouring himself some more.

It seemed he was going to spend time attempting to make amends on two fronts, rather than enjoying the festivities. He might as well start with the host.

"I do apologize?" he explained to Sam. "We've a past history that is filled with some contention. Unfortunately that is more due to my transgressions. As I'm certain you know well of, given past circumstances."

"Bygones," Sam said. But that probably wasn't enough.

"Apology accepted," he added more formally. "And in any case, given where we are--this fragmented timeline Doctor Strange tells me we're inhabiting--as far as I'm concerned, we're all starting over together."

He raised his bottle of beer. "Here's to starting over."

It wasn't enough and Loki almost looked as though he knew the full weight of every misstep he ever took. That was quickly covered up as he nodded, and instead looked appreciative. That was a sentiment that all could agree upon.

"Wise words indeed." Loki made a toasting gesture with his own drink. "You have a truly optimistic outlook. I do hope your expectations will not be dashed to pieces."

Loki downed the contents of his glass in one go, and poured himself another.

"So do I," Sam replied. He drank from his beer. "In any case, whether troubles comes or not, that's no excuse not to have some fun while you can."

"I'll leave you to it," he added. "I need to mingle. It was good talking to you."

Very wisely (or maybe unwisely) she had kept her mouth shut through the whole ordeal. Yeah. This was awkward as fuck. And now she really did need a drink, and wasn't even sure what the hell was happening. Oh but she saw those looks, Loki. Make no mistake about that.

She happily took her drink from Sam and took a drink, waving at him as he left.

Then she looked back at Loki. "Whenever you want to stop oogling your crush, let me know."

And then she promptly left him to his own damn devices.

Loki nodded in agreement to what Sam said, adding, "And to you as well."

After Sam departed, Loki was left looking more than a little bit stunned at Darcy. Before she could get too far away, he quickly said, "That is not what I was doing. I do not oogle."

Once she was gone, he discreetly set to work looking up what 'oogle' meant on a phone, and if it was somehow related to the google that one searched for information on.

"...oh, I most certainly did not," he grumbled to himself a few seconds later, his expression turning dark and troubled. It was safe to say that Loki was not having the sort of fun he was previously counting on.

Darcy gave Loki the very dubious of looks. The ones that said that basically she saw and whatever he thought he was going to contradict her with was completely ridiculous. She didn't believe him in a hot second.

"Okay. Sure. I have eyes, I know what the fuck I saw." She eyed him, and then for good measure, she eyed him up and down. The same exact way that he had done to Sif. "See? See how that feels? You were absolutely oogling here. You don't even need to bother denying it. I can tell. You really gotta get your shit together. For someone who really loves me and all.. you have no idea what you want."

She rolled her eyes a bit.

Having thought she left, Loki looked as though he was going to leap out of his skin when Darcy waltzed back up and then oogled him in such a manner, that it might possibly out-sarcasm him on his most sarcastic day. His brows knit together while his jaw dropped open. Just as quickly, it looked as though he had smelled something foul. Maybe even tasted it, too.

This wouldn't do. He rolled his eyes right back at her and poured himself another drink, looking high and mighty and princely (meaning: above it all).

"My feelings for you are not in question, nor need be questioned. This is also not the time nor the place," he said. "I wish you to know that I hardly did that. I did this."

He looked down at her legs, stared, and then looked up again. Dryly.

"If this offended you, then I do apologize," he said, and truly hoped she would try to refrain from posting about it on the network. "May we speak about this later, so that we do not befoul our host's festivities with any unpleasantness?"

It was a civil and politely put request, the type that would have been a standard to avoid unsightly displays in the royal court. One which would no doubt lead to bickering later on.
