COMPLETED Oct 1
Who: Asgardians, invited guests who are close friends of Asgard or Mr. Mischief
What: a week of wedding feast and Asgard's new regents (last day)
When: after the wedding
Rating: Green
Note: Read ooc note under cut. Tagged characters on invite list. Ends Oct 1st

The feast following a wedding was a feat of endurance. These were celebrations that would normally be spread out over twelve days. But, due to circumstance and having to seek special provisions from other realms, it was downsized to seven days total. The remaining five days would be left to the wedded couple to travel. Perhaps on one of those food tours...

Having no hall large enough to accommodate, sprawling tents had been constructed on the hillside overlooking New Asgard. Each of the large tents sturdy enough to stand against sudden winds and had pipe holes for warming stoves lit within. This would help with Norway's early autumn temps (daytime high of 50 to 60 degrees, low in the 40's) and the close proximity to the Oslofjord, for feasts went from mid-day to very late at night. Inside the tents, rugs had been laid over the grass and there were several long tables lit by lanterns. The seating was courtesy of benches...for that all so important communal flare.

Carefully chosen guests who are friends of Asgard or groom (Darcy, Bruce, Wanda and her +1, and Peter Parker) have rooms set aside for them at the town's only inn. Courtesy of Stormbreaker, these special guests could arrive and depart with great haste, to accommodate various work schedules. For Peter, he likely hit he tail end of the festivities, toward the week's end.

During the daylight hours, lots of games were taking place. Wrestling and footraces were popular pastimes. For those very lucky few who had horses, it was also a good time to show off. There was tug of war, which was always a rowdy affair.

During the evening, there were bards and storytellers galore. Older children went off to play the Asgardian version of a board game known as Hnefatafl. For the adults still capable of forming complete sentences, things often evolved into the drunken telling of tall (boastful) tales or singing drinking songs in semi-unison.

Much like their ancient Midgardian counterparts, Asgardian feasts employed mountains of food and an excessive amount of drinking, so most of the adults were expected to be slightly tipsy at the very least. There were rich stews, roasted meat and vegetables, and the obligatory seafood caught by the resident fishermen. The desserts were courtesy of a family of bakers, drizzled with honey or filled with nuts and fruits from places as far away as Vanaheim and Alfheim. Someone (Loki) snuck in Poptarts and pizza, but don't tell the bakers or they might be offended! All the while, ale, mead, and wines would flow freely, powerful brews that were meant for Asgardian constitutions.

The Golden Rule: Watch how much thou art drinking!

(OOC: Certain days will have a 'special guest star' mentioned in the subject line. Anyone is welcome to start or hop in. These characters can socialize or choose to take part in events only on those days (either during an event or during the meal after)! Asgardians (including Jane) are around all week, and can take part in any contests or socialize at any time.

You can do old fashioned threading, or an overview of what your character did so everyone knows what happened (example: Day 4). An overview of each day is provided so everyone has a prompt / knows what happened around their characters. Participation is optional but it can count for A.C. Threads will be frozen Oct 1st. )

Honestly, that Thor watched the dredge that was the Maury show wasn't surprising. Thor likely found the exploits of those on the Jerry Springer program to be enlightening. For Loki, the sad fact was any children would be half-Jotun, and that was 50% too much Jotun for Loki at this point in his life. He was content to look the way he looked while growing up in Asgard. But what was underneath was always there, that vile blue skin that marked him on sight as a monster who was different. He couldn't imagine children having to endure that, even if it was likely that they would be a dusty blue color. One that he'd like to cover up with an illusion, the same way that the All-father Odin used the Odin-force to hide his true nature as well.

Even so, this universe - and the Asgardian people - seemed to have accepted him. As long as he continued to blend in and not show his true colors, that the trend might continue and afford him a safe harbor. He could further that along by not ever having any off-spring parading around. That was likely the reason that his former self mentioned in his journals why he was nudging Thor to have children with Jane.

Perhaps his former self nudged too far.

Loki eyed his brother with a wary squint, like he was trying to figure out if there was any subterfuge involved here. Then again it was Thor, and his brother was the least subtle individual in the nine realms. Usually. There was some brief mention in those journals about pulling a retaliatory backstabbing by slapping some sort of slave control device onto his back. That was after saying something hurtful. Whatever was said in that elevator wasn't mentioned, and any memories were already out of reach.

"Excuse me, brother," Loki said, rubbing his fingertips at the side of his head. The headache was dull, but he wanted to make sure he was hearing and thinking clearly. "Are you saying you are relinquishing the crown, albeit temporarily? And you are leaving it to us?"

He pointed over to his new bride, who was finishing off an entire bottle of alcohol in less than five seconds. Whoever was insane enough to challenge her to a drinking contest surely lost their money.

Thor's eyes followed Loki's gaze and he huffed approvingly. The bride had lasted longer than most revelers which was appropriate and another sign of her good fit in the family. Thor was also often one of the last, staying far longer than Jane.

He wasn't actually sure where she was right now.

"There is no one I trust more than you, Loki. No one I would believe has Asgard's ultimate interests at heart like I." And at the end of day, no matter what, Asgard was always on Thor's mind. The weight of the crown was heavy indeed, and had worn a groove into his very soul....one he hadn't noticed until Jane's illness showed him how deeply divided he felt. And it wasn't that he couldn't reconcile the two pieces -- of course not. Again, it was his selfishness that was guiding his decision, made easier because he had the support and love of his brother. Above all else, Thor truly believed they had gotten to the point where they could be brothers...even if Loki's mind was fractured by faulty memories and presences from the past. In a way, it made the decision even easier because thor had always regretted trusting his brother too late. No, Loki needed this now if they were to reach that point together.

"I want time, time I've never truly had. Time where I can read a book for pleasure rather than for the knowledge it pertains." He gave Loki a look. "Hold your tongue. I can read."

Loki looked as though he was at a loss for words. It was a display of sentiment he never thought he would share with Thor. Not while the attack on New York was still so recent in Loki's mind, or after so many hundreds of years before, being the pesky younger brother doing things he didn't really want to do. And all of those years of not being recognized for what he could do. Things he was good at, rather than focusing on what he was bad at.

It was a relief that Thor realized the throne was a burden to be carried, that it involved so much time and effort that little was left for themselves. While this wasn't Asgard, it was what was left of a proud people, and there was much that he could do to improve New Asgard with the help of Brunnhilde and Sif.

Regardless, he still wasn't safe from the threat of Thanos in this universe. Although it wasn't as though Thanos knew that he was the regent to a king either. He could mimic anyone. He could even mimic being the All-father returned, if need be. Even a few minutes of hedging would be long enough for Brunnhilde and Sif to get everyone else to safety.

He could do this, Loki told himself. Even if temporary, he wouldn't fail at such a task.

"I truly know not what to say," he finally replied, with tears pricking his eyelashes. "That you trust me after all I've done these past few years? This means much to me, brother. Even beyond your questionable ability to read. For the longest time, I was under the assumption you thought books were pillows to snore into."

He smiled at Thor to let him know it was a joke.

"Tis wise of you," he added quickly, in case Thor tried to frizz his hair with static electricity, "to realize you need take time to be yourself. These last years seemed taxing on us both in differing ways. Doing this will behoove you, and New Asgard as a whole, when you are ready to return."

Thor beamed at Loki. Being a good older brother, "Yes, exactly. I am aware of a Midgardian concept called 'burn out'. It is a very serious disease and the cure is taking care of one self." Dr. Phil had many words of wisdom to impart on this. "So I will read pillows and sleep on books, whatever it is you believe I will do with my free time."

He gave Loki a twinkling look. "Other than making those aforementioned heirs."

Loki did a double take. His brother was obviously soused.

"I would stab you if not for it being poor conduct during a feast, and reek of a murder attempt for the throne. Lucky you that I'm not this mysterious sister I've heard tell of."

At least Loki was being strangely honest, thanks to the hangover he was trying to drink past. There was a somewhat sloppy yet mischievous smile while he cheerfully announced, "You're vile. Father wouldn't be amused. Mother, on the other hand, would have been happy to give you advice that would send you running with your ears on fire."

Thor’s ears burned slightly. Sometimes, he thought about how their mum was here, even for such a short period of time, and all the things he was able to say to her.

The talk of heirs, not so much, but love … yes, they’d discussed love.

“Mother would be proud of both of us, in spite of Father’s admonishments,” Thor said, grinning slightly. “And you, the first to wed…” Suddenly, he lifted his cup and jumped to his feet, albeit a bit unsteady.

“I love you, brother. You will do a wonderful job in my stead. Please. Accept the position.”

"Sit before you fall down," Loki laughed, still unsure how he managed to end up in this universe that was so vastly different to what he left behind. It was everything he ever wanted to hear, desperately needed to hear or to have, and some of his broken jagged self felt like it was mending back together again.

He stood up slowly, cup still held in one hand, and the other patting on Thor's shoulder. He always knew what it would mean to sit on the throne, and it was a chance to prove himself. He couldn't...he wouldn't...foul this up if he could help it. Luckily, he had a Valkyrie by his side, and they balanced out one another nicely. They had been burned by Asgard's standards of perfection before, and they both knew they didn't want that to happen anyone else again.

"I love you, and I am honored to accept," Loki replied. "I've read the musings of my other self in his journals. Apparently I wrote plays and was fed grapes. I promise that things will be kept less than...." He paused to look around at their surroundings and looked amused when he said, "...lavish. Unless you would like anything in particular done? Perhaps I could have New Asgard float in the sky, or we can hide it behind Midgard's moon?"

Thor threw his arm around his brother's shoulder and pulled him close to his side, pinning him with a crushing one armed hug. "As the Midgardians like to say: you do yourself in whatever manner you see fit. I will neither meddle nor end your receivership. Thank you, Loki, for this gift you have given me."

For that was what it truly was. A gift of time. Time for Thor to be who he wanted to be. There was no doubt that Thor would take back the crown. The royal obligations were too far deep. A sabbatical though? Oh, that was going to be blessed by the Norns.

"...ow," Loki muttered while being subjected to a crushing bear hug from his brother. There wasn't any struggling to get away involved, nor were any knives being pulled out in retaliation. He was warm and fuzzy from too much drink, and was content to blame his lack of brotherly retribution on that fact.

Instead, he smiled at Thor and lightly patted him on the back while saying, "I will do myself, to the best of my ability. Thank you for trusting me again. Or both of us, since I will rely heavily on my blushing bride to keep me in line."

The only reason the bride was blushing, was because of the amount of drink she consumed.

"Go forth and enjoy your time with Jane," he said, pulling away to smile at Thor mischievously. "It is what you wanted most to do, apparently. I've read you told me as much, while I was wearing Odin's guise. And I'm not apologizing for that, since technically, I never did that yet."

Loki smiled ear to ear, like a cat that got a canary. He liked having a Get Out Of The Dungeon Free voucher in regards to everything that happened after his return to Asgard. That his mother was gone due to his bitterness was painful, and the rest of what he read in his other self's journals was a tale of woe.

It was everything that came before that still plagued him and he imagined he would have to be very cautious while staying on Midgard.

At least for the time being.
