COMPLETED Oct 1
Who: Asgardians, invited guests who are close friends of Asgard or Mr. Mischief
What: a week of wedding feast and Asgard's new regents (last day)
When: after the wedding
Rating: Green
Note: Read ooc note under cut. Tagged characters on invite list. Ends Oct 1st

The feast following a wedding was a feat of endurance. These were celebrations that would normally be spread out over twelve days. But, due to circumstance and having to seek special provisions from other realms, it was downsized to seven days total. The remaining five days would be left to the wedded couple to travel. Perhaps on one of those food tours...

Having no hall large enough to accommodate, sprawling tents had been constructed on the hillside overlooking New Asgard. Each of the large tents sturdy enough to stand against sudden winds and had pipe holes for warming stoves lit within. This would help with Norway's early autumn temps (daytime high of 50 to 60 degrees, low in the 40's) and the close proximity to the Oslofjord, for feasts went from mid-day to very late at night. Inside the tents, rugs had been laid over the grass and there were several long tables lit by lanterns. The seating was courtesy of benches...for that all so important communal flare.

Carefully chosen guests who are friends of Asgard or groom (Darcy, Bruce, Wanda and her +1, and Peter Parker) have rooms set aside for them at the town's only inn. Courtesy of Stormbreaker, these special guests could arrive and depart with great haste, to accommodate various work schedules. For Peter, he likely hit he tail end of the festivities, toward the week's end.

During the daylight hours, lots of games were taking place. Wrestling and footraces were popular pastimes. For those very lucky few who had horses, it was also a good time to show off. There was tug of war, which was always a rowdy affair.

During the evening, there were bards and storytellers galore. Older children went off to play the Asgardian version of a board game known as Hnefatafl. For the adults still capable of forming complete sentences, things often evolved into the drunken telling of tall (boastful) tales or singing drinking songs in semi-unison.

Much like their ancient Midgardian counterparts, Asgardian feasts employed mountains of food and an excessive amount of drinking, so most of the adults were expected to be slightly tipsy at the very least. There were rich stews, roasted meat and vegetables, and the obligatory seafood caught by the resident fishermen. The desserts were courtesy of a family of bakers, drizzled with honey or filled with nuts and fruits from places as far away as Vanaheim and Alfheim. Someone (Loki) snuck in Poptarts and pizza, but don't tell the bakers or they might be offended! All the while, ale, mead, and wines would flow freely, powerful brews that were meant for Asgardian constitutions.

The Golden Rule: Watch how much thou art drinking!

(OOC: Certain days will have a 'special guest star' mentioned in the subject line. Anyone is welcome to start or hop in. These characters can socialize or choose to take part in events only on those days (either during an event or during the meal after)! Asgardians (including Jane) are around all week, and can take part in any contests or socialize at any time.

You can do old fashioned threading, or an overview of what your character did so everyone knows what happened (example: Day 4). An overview of each day is provided so everyone has a prompt / knows what happened around their characters. Participation is optional but it can count for A.C. Threads will be frozen Oct 1st. )

Day 1
[info]the_trickster
2019-09-17 11:04 pm UTC (link)
By the time the Asgardians and Jane arrived in the tents and the actual feasting began, it was more of a dinner party. Several toasts were made, and people gradually went to their own homes after several hours, taking whatever was left of the uneaten food with them for breaking their fast in the morning. If they could stand to eat anymore!

Other than that, this evening ended quietly and without any fuss. No one was slapped or not one brawl was had. The newlyweds skipped out early when no one was looking to take a stroll by the water, and that was the last anyone saw of them that night.

It was a clear but breezy day overlooking New Asgard. Despite the daytime temps reaching a balmy 52 degrees fahrenheit, the Asgardians were holding a foot race. It didn't matter the size or shape of the runners, and plenty of them were drunk by late afternoon. This only made it even more fun when it became a test of balance more than speed. Many bets were flying on who was going to fall over first.

Everyone was standing around the tents with a cup in hand, watching the contest take place. It's a good time to socialize among those who weren't participating.

For those who want to race? Good luck making it to the finish line.

Anyone hung over yet? The answer to that would be a resounding "Norns yes" from some who are involved in this party marathon-go-round.

Today's contest is wrestling! Not the wrestling that Midgard is fond of (Who uses a chair or stands in a ring? Honestly!) but the sort that requires balance as well as strength. The first person to be knocked over or thrown to the ground is a big fat loser.

There was a variation of wrestling known as Give Birth To A Bear. For Asgardians, that required drinking far more powerful stuff than what was at hand. Of the sort that was aged in barrels for thousands of years and would take a few sips before they would ever reach that point of nonsense. Thankfully.

The infamous Give Birth To A Bear might be mentioned at some point this evening. Followed by a lot of "Oh noooooo."

Tug of war, anyone? Captains will meet on the hillside and pick their teams, while those on the sidelines cheer on their favorites. This is, of course, accompanied by yet more food and fueled by more super strong drinks.

There might be a some hot tea and coffee somewhere. But no one seems to know quite where it is....

Jane will present herself to be chosen for tug of war. While her minuscule strength is likely to make no difference, st least this is a team event and gives her some opportunity to play along. Unlike the individual event the other days, which are even more pointless for a human. But Jane is at least capable of pulling on a rope, so long as no one pulls so hard she goes flying.

Thor is greatly amused watching Jane present herself for tug of war. It isn't that he has no faith in her ... okay, so maybe he doesn't. She is tiny and not strong and so very mortal and he loves her for trying even more.

So he will position himself right behind her, so that when she inevitably gets knocked off her feet, he is there to pick her up.

That being said, he is hoping that Banner goes on the other side and at some point, the tug of war becomes very much him vs bruce. Thor is the strongest Avenger, after all, and that's a mantle he plans on keeping, thank you very much.

Now someone hold his beer -- he has a competition to win.

Loki was on the opposite end of the rope from wherever Bruce might be. Even if it cleared his head, being one with Stark's flooring was fresh in his memories. Never in one million and one years would he be anywhere near the big green brute.

He wasn't sure if Banner could turn into the beast anymore. If he did, Loki would let go of the rope and let the warriors deal with it. The most he could hope to do is addle the Hulk's mind...and he wasn't sure there was much in there to addle.

He was loosely holding the rope with one hand in front of Brunnhilde. Between her, Thor, and Sif, it would probably turn into a game of sheer stubbornness that could last the entire afternoon. Everyone else could let go sip wine and eat finger sandwiches.

That sounded a lot better than this did, honestly.

Sif was with Thor (which meant Jane and Loki) so she was pulling in full earnest. Though if too many people left to eat finger sandwiches and left Banner all alone against half of Asgard, she might have to go join him to make things fair.

Day 5 - special guest stars: Wanda & Pietro Maximoff
[info]the_trickster

Swimming and horse racing took place on this day. Neither of these were much of a contest since a certain sorcerer can shapeshift into a fish ("It's not cheating since no one forbid any other forms.") and there are only three horses in the entire village, one of which has wings ("It's still technically a horse.").

The sparring contest afterward seems far more fair for everyone. Swords and shields at the ready, friends!

After that, it will be back to the dinner party, which is really just an excuse to drink a lot...with a side of eating.

Partaking in the excessive amounts of ale was something that Wanda could not do, however, she certainly enjoyed observing the festivities and participating when she was able. She wore an a-line dress in a deep shade of burgundy, and the good thing about it was that it had a belt and a little bit of stretch to accommodate for her waistline - ever expanding that it was, thanks to the twins.

Eventually she would need to brainstorm names. Just thinking of them as 'the twins' seemed a little impersonal.

But that would be when she returned home, along with beginning to put the nursery together at the Avengers tower. For Loki and Val's wedding, she gifted the couple with something homemade, and concocted all out of love and to celebrate their love of Pop-tarts. It was a beautiful reception and party; she'd never been to New Asgard, and really enjoyed the aesthetic of it. The sea breeze was so refreshing, the salt cleansing, and she was delighted to spot a few different types of exotic birds as splashes of color against the sky.

"You will have to have some more ale for me," she told Pietro, hand falling to the bump that jutted out over her hips (which hurt these days, thanks to those ligaments stretching). "I could eat more food though." Good thing the dinner party was still going on, after the spectacle the live sporting events provided.

"I am sure I can manage that for you" Pietro grinned, his faster metabolism was definitely going to be put to the test here, but one he was willing to take.

It really was a beautiful place and Pietro felt calmer than he usually did. His need to run not as great as it normally was. There was always a current running under his skin it seemed, pushing him to move. But it felt muted here which was strange but not unpleasant.

"I can fetch you more food" he told her before doing just that in a flash. He couldn't deny his protective instincts were right up now Wanda was pregnant and no doubt it would encompass the children once they were in the world. It had been a lot to take in, his return to the world had not been as simple as expected and there had been much to learn. But he had Wanda and that was really all he needed.

Wanda really wanted to enjoy the seafood, but she wasn't sure which types were safe and which weren't, the mercury levels, and that sort of thing. So she stuck with the delicious stew, holding a bowl in her hands now (thanks to Pietro) - no doubt she'd also splurge on another dessert; she loved the ones sticky with honey, that made her fingers sticky too.

Oh well. She did not really have anyone to impress - her brother was her 'plus one,' as opposed to Vision (who had disappeared months ago - and no sign of him returning, despite how much she focused her telepathy to attempt to pick up the first murmur from the mind stone that she could sense).

"Thank you," she grinned at Pietro, digging into the stew. "Do you think you will ever have a wedding like this? If you find someone who can keep up with you?"

No doubt any potential wife would be vetted by Wanda first. She was just as protective of her brother as he was of her.

Stew definitely seemed like the safer option and it was tasty too so it was what Pietro went with. He ate some of everything but tried not to do so in front of Wanda. He was not so mean. But he would make sure they both got more dessert later.

"I am not sure it would be fair to limit myself so much, you know how much girls like me. It would be mean of me to have to turn them down" he replied with a grin, honestly Pietro didn't envision himself ever being with someone but he was never going to say never. After all he had not imagined his sister being pregnant with twins so he should probably not rule anything out.

Peter Parker was met at his apartment door by Thor. After some good-natured assurance to Aunt May that "Young Peter will return tomorrow morn with many a tale to tell!" she obtained a bribe an autograph and a selfie-with-a-celeb superhero. the pair left for New Asgard courtesy of Stormbreaker.

Thus, today's game is called keep the teenage mortal away from the powerful alcohol.

Actually, no. Not really. It consisted of a game of who can throw the largest stones (or any other impossibly heavy object) the furthest over the hillside. This is, of course, going to be followed by more food and drinking into the wee hours.

And with any luck, Thor can see and think straight in the mornings to Bifrost Peter back home to Queens. Theoretically, getting lost in mid-Bifrost wouldn't be very much fun. Not that the bridegroom remembers any of that sordid business...

brotherly meeting (Thor & Loki)

On the final day of feasting, almost everyone (with the possible exception of Valkyrie) looks as though they are crawling into the tents using only their lips. There is much lighter fare being served, and the last of the mead is being shared. A bard is singing in old Aesir of love lost and found, and people are already talking about the next feast time, which would be Jól...also known as Yule time.

Off in a corner, two brothers are sitting and drinking together while watching the festivities wind down....

It was Thursday, which oddly enough was Thor's Day. Thor still found that amusing, going so far as to point it out enough times to annoy Jane.

The feasting, as was tradition, had lasted the whole week, and today was the final day. It was wonderful, spending time with friends and his new sister. Thankfully, this one had only tried to maim him and sold him into slavery -- much better than his actual sister who tried to kill him, murdered countless Asgardians, brought around Ragnarok ... oh wait, that was him.

Regardless, it was a good time, and Thor was pleasantly surprised with how ...authentic everything felt. Of course, it was Loki's handfasting, and his brother would never have settled for anything less than perfect.

Still. That deserved a toast.

Tucked in a dark corner at the very back of the feast, somehow Thor and Loki had managed to avoid much conversation with others. Thor suspected a spell of sorts, but wasn't too concerned. In a way, it was good though. There was still the gentle noise of people around, coupled with music and drinks.... perfect way to start a conversation. Thor had learned from his convo with Jane that he was not very good at beating around the small shrub; however, he didn't want to blurt it out either.

So naturally, he was going to address this with tact and respect and --

"So. Will I be an uncle soon?"

Yeah.....guess not.

Well, it wasn't the palace in Asgard or some grand feasting hall, but the tents were sturdy and well lit for the most part. That corner was dark and quiet through the use of magic, and it appeared empty to everyone around them since Loki was, frankly, hung over. He didn't know how anyone could eat and drink every night for a week. It was obvious more than ever that he wasn't as hardy as an Asgardian was, which was why he had to rely on his magical talents in order to sit up and function.

Of course, then Thor would pick that moment to bring up children, which would be exceedingly obvious that one of the parents wasn't biologically Asgardian at all.

"Yes, that sounds like a wise idea. Let's have light blue children running about. I'm certain they won't be at all mocked," he said with dry sarcasm. Still, it was too gleefully easy to turn the tables around, and Loki shot his brother a suddenly wide smile. "My advice is not to hold your breath. After all, I'm not the one they're expecting heirs from."

Hint hint.

“You don’t know that they’d be blue.” Thor had been watching a lot of daytime television while he exercised. Midgardians seemed to be very concerned with as many people knowing their business as possible, which was so strange for the naturally private Thor. It didn’t stop him from watching Maury though. It appeared that genetics had an unusual way of showing itself in progeny. With Loki’s luck, only 50% of his children would be blue. That would be fun.

“And yes...heirs. Funny you mention that, brother.” Even if he was the one to bring it up. Thor shifted in his seat and looked at Loki, really looked at him. “Who would have thought we’d be here today. You, married to a Valkyrie. A Valkyrie whose sworn duty is to protect Asgard and her people, a duty she has fulfilled time and time again. The people have learned to trust you again, Loki. They love you. Look at these feasts -- they have been filled to the brim with merriment and good cheer, and not simply for the free vittles and drink.” His face softened. “They are here for you and Val, and this brings great relief to my heart and soul. That is why I have decided to step away for a while. No more than 6 months, I would think...but I will hand over the crown in regency to you and Val. This is entirely selfish on my part, and I will own that entirely.”

He paused.

“Besides, if one wants heirs, there needs to be time to create them.”

Honestly, that Thor watched the dredge that was the Maury show wasn't surprising. Thor likely found the exploits of those on the Jerry Springer program to be enlightening. For Loki, the sad fact was any children would be half-Jotun, and that was 50% too much Jotun for Loki at this point in his life. He was content to look the way he looked while growing up in Asgard. But what was underneath was always there, that vile blue skin that marked him on sight as a monster who was different. He couldn't imagine children having to endure that, even if it was likely that they would be a dusty blue color. One that he'd like to cover up with an illusion, the same way that the All-father Odin used the Odin-force to hide his true nature as well.

Even so, this universe - and the Asgardian people - seemed to have accepted him. As long as he continued to blend in and not show his true colors, that the trend might continue and afford him a safe harbor. He could further that along by not ever having any off-spring parading around. That was likely the reason that his former self mentioned in his journals why he was nudging Thor to have children with Jane.

Perhaps his former self nudged too far.

Loki eyed his brother with a wary squint, like he was trying to figure out if there was any subterfuge involved here. Then again it was Thor, and his brother was the least subtle individual in the nine realms. Usually. There was some brief mention in those journals about pulling a retaliatory backstabbing by slapping some sort of slave control device onto his back. That was after saying something hurtful. Whatever was said in that elevator wasn't mentioned, and any memories were already out of reach.

"Excuse me, brother," Loki said, rubbing his fingertips at the side of his head. The headache was dull, but he wanted to make sure he was hearing and thinking clearly. "Are you saying you are relinquishing the crown, albeit temporarily? And you are leaving it to us?"

He pointed over to his new bride, who was finishing off an entire bottle of alcohol in less than five seconds. Whoever was insane enough to challenge her to a drinking contest surely lost their money.

Thor's eyes followed Loki's gaze and he huffed approvingly. The bride had lasted longer than most revelers which was appropriate and another sign of her good fit in the family. Thor was also often one of the last, staying far longer than Jane.

He wasn't actually sure where she was right now.

"There is no one I trust more than you, Loki. No one I would believe has Asgard's ultimate interests at heart like I." And at the end of day, no matter what, Asgard was always on Thor's mind. The weight of the crown was heavy indeed, and had worn a groove into his very soul....one he hadn't noticed until Jane's illness showed him how deeply divided he felt. And it wasn't that he couldn't reconcile the two pieces -- of course not. Again, it was his selfishness that was guiding his decision, made easier because he had the support and love of his brother. Above all else, Thor truly believed they had gotten to the point where they could be brothers...even if Loki's mind was fractured by faulty memories and presences from the past. In a way, it made the decision even easier because thor had always regretted trusting his brother too late. No, Loki needed this now if they were to reach that point together.

"I want time, time I've never truly had. Time where I can read a book for pleasure rather than for the knowledge it pertains." He gave Loki a look. "Hold your tongue. I can read."

Loki looked as though he was at a loss for words. It was a display of sentiment he never thought he would share with Thor. Not while the attack on New York was still so recent in Loki's mind, or after so many hundreds of years before, being the pesky younger brother doing things he didn't really want to do. And all of those years of not being recognized for what he could do. Things he was good at, rather than focusing on what he was bad at.

It was a relief that Thor realized the throne was a burden to be carried, that it involved so much time and effort that little was left for themselves. While this wasn't Asgard, it was what was left of a proud people, and there was much that he could do to improve New Asgard with the help of Brunnhilde and Sif.

Regardless, he still wasn't safe from the threat of Thanos in this universe. Although it wasn't as though Thanos knew that he was the regent to a king either. He could mimic anyone. He could even mimic being the All-father returned, if need be. Even a few minutes of hedging would be long enough for Brunnhilde and Sif to get everyone else to safety.

He could do this, Loki told himself. Even if temporary, he wouldn't fail at such a task.

"I truly know not what to say," he finally replied, with tears pricking his eyelashes. "That you trust me after all I've done these past few years? This means much to me, brother. Even beyond your questionable ability to read. For the longest time, I was under the assumption you thought books were pillows to snore into."

He smiled at Thor to let him know it was a joke.

"Tis wise of you," he added quickly, in case Thor tried to frizz his hair with static electricity, "to realize you need take time to be yourself. These last years seemed taxing on us both in differing ways. Doing this will behoove you, and New Asgard as a whole, when you are ready to return."

Thor beamed at Loki. Being a good older brother, "Yes, exactly. I am aware of a Midgardian concept called 'burn out'. It is a very serious disease and the cure is taking care of one self." Dr. Phil had many words of wisdom to impart on this. "So I will read pillows and sleep on books, whatever it is you believe I will do with my free time."

He gave Loki a twinkling look. "Other than making those aforementioned heirs."

Loki did a double take. His brother was obviously soused.

"I would stab you if not for it being poor conduct during a feast, and reek of a murder attempt for the throne. Lucky you that I'm not this mysterious sister I've heard tell of."

At least Loki was being strangely honest, thanks to the hangover he was trying to drink past. There was a somewhat sloppy yet mischievous smile while he cheerfully announced, "You're vile. Father wouldn't be amused. Mother, on the other hand, would have been happy to give you advice that would send you running with your ears on fire."

Thor’s ears burned slightly. Sometimes, he thought about how their mum was here, even for such a short period of time, and all the things he was able to say to her.

The talk of heirs, not so much, but love … yes, they’d discussed love.

“Mother would be proud of both of us, in spite of Father’s admonishments,” Thor said, grinning slightly. “And you, the first to wed…” Suddenly, he lifted his cup and jumped to his feet, albeit a bit unsteady.

“I love you, brother. You will do a wonderful job in my stead. Please. Accept the position.”

"Sit before you fall down," Loki laughed, still unsure how he managed to end up in this universe that was so vastly different to what he left behind. It was everything he ever wanted to hear, desperately needed to hear or to have, and some of his broken jagged self felt like it was mending back together again.

He stood up slowly, cup still held in one hand, and the other patting on Thor's shoulder. He always knew what it would mean to sit on the throne, and it was a chance to prove himself. He couldn't...he wouldn't...foul this up if he could help it. Luckily, he had a Valkyrie by his side, and they balanced out one another nicely. They had been burned by Asgard's standards of perfection before, and they both knew they didn't want that to happen anyone else again.

"I love you, and I am honored to accept," Loki replied. "I've read the musings of my other self in his journals. Apparently I wrote plays and was fed grapes. I promise that things will be kept less than...." He paused to look around at their surroundings and looked amused when he said, "...lavish. Unless you would like anything in particular done? Perhaps I could have New Asgard float in the sky, or we can hide it behind Midgard's moon?"

Thor threw his arm around his brother's shoulder and pulled him close to his side, pinning him with a crushing one armed hug. "As the Midgardians like to say: you do yourself in whatever manner you see fit. I will neither meddle nor end your receivership. Thank you, Loki, for this gift you have given me."

For that was what it truly was. A gift of time. Time for Thor to be who he wanted to be. There was no doubt that Thor would take back the crown. The royal obligations were too far deep. A sabbatical though? Oh, that was going to be blessed by the Norns.

"...ow," Loki muttered while being subjected to a crushing bear hug from his brother. There wasn't any struggling to get away involved, nor were any knives being pulled out in retaliation. He was warm and fuzzy from too much drink, and was content to blame his lack of brotherly retribution on that fact.

Instead, he smiled at Thor and lightly patted him on the back while saying, "I will do myself, to the best of my ability. Thank you for trusting me again. Or both of us, since I will rely heavily on my blushing bride to keep me in line."

The only reason the bride was blushing, was because of the amount of drink she consumed.

"Go forth and enjoy your time with Jane," he said, pulling away to smile at Thor mischievously. "It is what you wanted most to do, apparently. I've read you told me as much, while I was wearing Odin's guise. And I'm not apologizing for that, since technically, I never did that yet."

Loki smiled ear to ear, like a cat that got a canary. He liked having a Get Out Of The Dungeon Free voucher in regards to everything that happened after his return to Asgard. That his mother was gone due to his bitterness was painful, and the rest of what he read in his other self's journals was a tale of woe.

It was everything that came before that still plagued him and he imagined he would have to be very cautious while staying on Midgard.

At least for the time being.
