β€” viewable to those on the ship
From Mordor to the Death Star

Yeah, okay, I don't want to sound ungrateful because I really, really appreciate being resurrected and I bet that's not going to bite me in the ass later, but I'm so not cut out for all of this. I'm the first one to admit I'm a total coward. Ask anyone! Sure, I did the self-sacrificial thing once but that was a total fluke β€” I'm the GrΓma Wormtongue here, not the Legolas or Gimli. Thranduil turning his back on the dwarves when Smaug sundered Erebor? Me. All me. Actually, I wouldn't even be there β€” at least that guy showed up to see what was going on.

[...]

What I'm trying to say is: Somebody made a huge mistake bringing me here, and I'm totally going to mess this up. Do not pass go, do not roll for initiative, do not depend on me.

filtered to aziraphale.

Thanks for yesterday. And sorry for getting snot on your fancy handkerchief. Jane Austen always made it sound nice, not [...] you know.

I'll have it monogrammed for you.

Ms Austen seems to have greatly exaggerated the effectiveness of fΓͺtes on encouraging affection in two people, to my great dismay.

Dude, now you're being too nice. I'm not monogram material. That's St knights and stuff.

Are you serious? So all those balls weren't where people went to basically speed date?

Nonsense. Anyone can have one. I was thinking a nice tartan, if that's agreeable.

Believe me, I am just as disappointed. I'm sure perhaps they did, to a degree, but it seems as if her novels imbued them with a certain magic that doesn't quite carry over.

Can it be black and red?

[...] That's actually really depressing. Like finding out knights didn't get favors from people when they jousted.

It can. There are a few lovely patterns with those colours.

I can assure you that was real. I gave a few in my day.

You're the best, you know that?

Thank fuck God. I bet THOSE parties started plenty of romances. Masquerades sound exciting.

That's awfully kind of you. I have to return the sentiment, Eddie.

There was certainly something in the air. The Venetian balls were less likely for romance, but that is Venice for you.

That's a first. I'll take it.

Let me guess: more about cloak and dagger than star-crossed meet cutes?

Good. I'm a terrible liar, I'll have you know, so you can trust that I meant it.

No, Venice was a bit more carnal, if you excuse the expression.

I figured you couldn't lie. Or is that just Bible fanon?

You're full of surprises, Aziraphale. Mind if I pick your brain later? I could really use this in some of the stuff I'm writing.

Oh, I very much can. And have. Rather poorly, most times. I don't believe most know they can lie. It would require them to go against what they feel is the only truth, and not many of them question it.

By all means. I've a journal, too, that might have a few interesting anecdotes we can draw upon. What is it that you're writing?

Huh. What tipped you off?

Yeah? Sick, man, I'd love that if you're comfortable with it.

I run ran a club back home where I created stories for people. It was a good time. Kept me occupied for a while.

Someone very close to me did, actually.

There may be a few passages that would be best if we skipped, but the rest should be all right.

How delightful. Would you be keen to start a new one here? I'm certain there are more than enough interested parties, myself included. I do love a good story.
