New Ad Layouts

Previous Entry Add to Memories Tell a Friend Next Entry
I have updated the ad layouts to try to make the site easier on the eyes. This is work that I had completed some time ago but never rolled live. I decided that you guys deserved something out of me so since this wasn't going to take additional time I have rolled it out.

Right now what you will notice is that there are ads on your profile page and entry pages. If you have a paid account you will not see ads at all on the site while you are logged in.

Now for an extra bonus, if you are paid, nobody will see ads on your profile page or your entry pages. There will still be ads on other parts of the site as soon as I have time to write the code to add them in.

Sorry this took so long.

*edit*
We are aware that the large square ad on the right side of the profile messes with the layout. We are going to look into a way of fixing that as soon as possible.

*edit2*
I have moved the second ad on the profile page from a square ad on the right to a leaderboard below "Account type" This should resolve formatting issues some were seeing.
  • With the ads above and below all entries, it looks extremely tacky in my opinion, but I guess it's better than what we had before.
  • the ads in the userinformation looks awful and makes the profiles look so bad. the entries i think are fine but damn.
  • i don't see how this is really fair especially for those of us who can't chuck out the money for a paid account but oh well.
  • These new ads make the user info page look awful. It stretches out the page. Its really not fair to us that can't afford a paid account. I didn't mind the ads the way they were before on the side but now its just bad. This is the reason i left other sites.
  • Whooooooooooo, shiny.
  • No ads on this account but on I do have several others that aren't paid. The ads at the top and bottom are much better than the ones that we had before. Thanks!
  • I understand the ads thing, but it does look really bad. I really hope that there's a way you can make it look a little better, as in putting them in a better spot, maybe below the comments and below "(More details...)" in the profiles. I understand the fact that paid accounts do get that privilege and it's fine with me, I just hope there's a way you can make it look a little better. With lists of 50+ friends in the profile, scrunching it up like that just looks really bad as well as if there's a graphic, it just looks horrible. And the ads in the comments are just distracting. I hope you don't take this the wrong way because I really do get why they're there.
  • the ads at the top of the page really mess up the layout on the "new tweak" viewing option. i like that we're able to still use "new tweak" because for me, it's much easier to browse. but because of the top ads, everything is spaced out awkwardly.

there's an example of what i'm talking about.
  • i personally liked the ads where they were before and i know a lot of other people who did too but if you think this is better for the site then alright
  • I understand the need for ads on the pages, but the way they were before at least kept pages looking somewhat nice. Now they stretch everything out horribly on the top of profiles and bottom for the entries. And for me with journals for rpgs it just makes it look awful.
  • i was at peace with where the ads were before, bro
  • I don't mind the ads in the entries, but my UI looks terrible now and I think it should go back to the way it was before. At least when they were down the left side of the page it didn't interfere with people's UI graphics and stuff.
  • like everyone else, i preferred how the ads were before. they were much less obtrusive.

the only way you could truly make ads less of an eyesore would be if you could make them smaller. otherwise, i'd say keep them how they were before.
  • is there any way you could change it back to the way it was before? i hate the new ads theres like 10 of them and they make everything look horrible
  • there is also still the space at the top of the page from when the old ads were there
  • ads (that stretch everything out) on profiles are bad enough, but in our ENTRIES, too? these are supposed to be our journals. that is the one area that should be AD FREE because it is our own personal place to write.
  • I don't approve of this at all. :\ I hate the idea of ads being in actual entries. That's just wrong there. Not all of us can afford the paid accounts and ad blocker for some people don't work.
  • I have filed a complaint against IJ to the Better Business Bureau.

1, for the amount of downtime that has happened during the course of having some of my other paid accounts and 2, for my URGENT support tickets going ignored.
  • I think they were better where they were. I could easily ignore them, and it didn't disrupt my journal entries or my userinfo. Please change it back, or have it be an option we can choose. I'm not saying to get rid of the ads, because I completely understand why you need them, we wouldn't have IJ without them.
  • http://i38.tinypic.com/11bsnwk.jpg ~ that looks freakin horrible underneath that and it's effing up my userinfo layout, obviously, i can't see the links. please go back to the old layout.
  • The ads are not stretching my layout but overlapping my profile, making friends (and the ad) unclickable.

I have more than 1 journal and I can't afford to make them all paid. I cannot continue to use IJ unless this changes.

  • ew go back to the old ads please, these look really really horrible
  • yea could you not do so many ads? its kinda really ugly.
  • I understand having to have ads to pay for things, and that's cool, but I
    really prefer
the old ad layout...and not having them in entries. It's so distracting.
  • Tweak, I was wondering - would it be possible for journals attached to communities that are paid for also have those comms be ad-less as well?
