I have updated the ad layouts to try to make the site easier on the eyes. This is work that I had completed some time ago but never rolled live. I decided that you guys deserved something out of me so since this wasn't going to take additional time I have rolled it out.

Right now what you will notice is that there are ads on your profile page and entry pages. If you have a paid account you will not see ads at all on the site while you are logged in.

Now for an extra bonus, if you are paid, nobody will see ads on your profile page or your entry pages. There will still be ads on other parts of the site as soon as I have time to write the code to add them in.

We are aware that the large square ad on the right side of the profile messes with the layout. We are going to look into a way of fixing that as soon as possible.

I have moved the second ad on the profile page from a square ad on the right to a leaderboard below "Account type" This should resolve formatting issues some were seeing.

    I would really prefer ads to be back to the way they were, but I'm a little confused as to why people keep saying "why are ads in entries now" or something similar. Ads have always been in journal entries... right?

    Also, Squeaky, uh... my abuse ticket for [info]groupvoice left over from April. Seriously.

    i didn't find the ads too obnoxious before; in fact, i'd prefer if they were rolled back to how they looked before today

    i'm sorry but i cannot afford to pay for every account i have. i am unemployed, and even if i were employed my money would go towards something better than an online journal. as such, i have checked every single user info page for my community and the sub communities, as well as my regular journal. all of them are hideous and terrible looking, and you need to change it back before someone comes to ij thinking it is atrocious. i have moved away from ij because of problems, and just recently moved back thinking everything would be better, and fixed, and hopefully trying to find somewhere good for my game. i cannot keep packing up and moving around to different websites because it is bad for the game and the members will end up furious with me. i agree with everyone else, you need to fix the problem with the user infos, pronto.

    i most of all will not stand for the ad overlapping my user info picture.

    Have the ads really been removed from the update page? If so, that's AWESOME. I'll take them anywhere else on site if they're pulled off of the update page. THANK YOU!

    I preferred the ads how they were before. At least that way, they didn't ruin my user info pages and my entries pages. :/

    I can't even see the ads because of AdBlock Plus, but I still understand the need for them. I was used to the way GJ's ads used to be sparse, so I'm sure people are just frustrated with having to adjust to something new again. Your hard work is appreciated, Squeaky!

    I don't like the new ad layout at all, either in the profiles or comment pages. I much prefer the old setup.

    Honestly? The ads looked much better how it was before. They were easier to deal with, and a LOT easier on the eyes. I mean they were there, yeah, but it just feels a lot harder to deal with now than ever.

    Like a lot of other users, I was completely fine with the way ads were before this change. It's a necessary evil, I'm well aware of it, but the new structure of them is very annoying, particularly the ads beneath the default userpic in the info page. They mess up with any graphics you have there and makes it look ugly and weird, so hopefully going back to the old way will be possible.

    I fully understand the need for ads on the site, and they don't usually bother me, but I have to add, I'm really not too keen on the new set up for them, either. Whilst I like having the vertical ads gone, I think they now look really bad on the entry pages. Especially the one below the entry/above the comments. Why not just the ad at the top of the entry? That doesn't look nearly half as bad.

    Though, I appreciate the work you put into the site and trying to appease the users, so thank you for that :)

    Roll them back. I know a few people wanted the layout changed, but I think the majority preferred it the way they were.

    if you dont have a paid account is there any way to get the ads off the page? because i honestly dont like the ads being everywhere i go on ij, it rather annoys me. but thats just me. so..is there any way you can pick an option to take them off of your page?

    I have to say that the whole thing just really looks so horrible, this coming from someone who has a paid accounts and free accounts. They were just fine before in my honest opinion and I think the change is a bad idea and has made it worse on the eyes and looks badly on the whole website in general. :/ This is disappointing.

    I don't really care where the ads are put but right now my ui is overlapping other parts of my ui or if I don't have anything in my ui, the interests is overlapping my icon.

    While I don't mind the ads in either place (I understand the necessity of them since sites like this can get quite expensive!), I'm slightly worried about the content of an ad I keep seeing. With all due respect to anyone else, I'm not really comfortable with seeing/watching two doll-like images making out and, for lack of a better word, grinding against one another.

    Is there a way to get more tasteful ads, please?

    i just now saw this post, and if it helps anyone out, i use adblock plus so i don't have to worry about the ads. like i said, if this helps anyone out. just a suggestion if you don't want to see any of the ads on your journal or anything. :)

    I don't have any problem with the ads. They are a necessary part of this site for those of us that want to or need to use this site for free.
