I have updated the ad layouts to try to make the site easier on the eyes. This is work that I had completed some time ago but never rolled live. I decided that you guys deserved something out of me so since this wasn't going to take additional time I have rolled it out.

Right now what you will notice is that there are ads on your profile page and entry pages. If you have a paid account you will not see ads at all on the site while you are logged in.

Now for an extra bonus, if you are paid, nobody will see ads on your profile page or your entry pages. There will still be ads on other parts of the site as soon as I have time to write the code to add them in.

We are aware that the large square ad on the right side of the profile messes with the layout. We are going to look into a way of fixing that as soon as possible.

I have moved the second ad on the profile page from a square ad on the right to a leaderboard below "Account type" This should resolve formatting issues some were seeing.

    I appreciate that you're working hard but holy crap this looks terrible. If we could vote I would vote to return to the way it was. Everything was much better when it was on the side or up above now it makes everything look like an eye sore.

    It's great that the ad layout is a little easier on the eyes, but maybe the notifications could get fixed soon? I have only been getting about half of my comments emailed in the last several months and I know I am not the only one having that issue and while I appreciate that things are busy, I think basic functions like that are a little more important than where the ads are.

    i'm with the large score of people here who agree the ads were MUCH better in their previous place. this just looks tacky!

    i don't understand who you were helping with these replacements but it was definitely NOT me.

    My two cents: I really couldn't care less about the userinfo and where ads are as I don't spend my time in my userinfo or looking at those pages (though the way it is right now looks fine to me), but the ads in the comments are very distracting and were much better as they were.

    I never noticed ads before as they weren't in the way and I'm all for ads making the site free for users such as myself, but now I cringe every time I want to comment an entry.

    I do appreciate the work and decisions you are putting into this and don't envy you for having to do it. No matter what you're not going to please everyone, so maybe posting a suggested screen resolution or web browser might help for those who have problems.

    Honestly I really like the new ad placement for the entries. The ads on the vertical column used to really mess up any tables I was trying to make and misalign everything -- horizontal ads at the top and bottom are so much easier to deal with. The square ad at the userinfo page is definitely a problem though, and I'm glad to hear that the IJ team is so rapidly working to fix it!

    Everyone that's complaining about the ads should honestly shut up -- ~squeaky's being nice enough as it is not charging us for every account we make on here or limiting the stuff we enjoy here, like 100 userpics, and mostly nonintrusive ads (imagine having pop-ups!).

    While I think this placement of ads is better then the one down the side, i would perfer the one between the entry and comments to be moved, maybe to the bottom of the screen.

    I just thought I'd say that I'm incredibly relieved not to have to see the skyscraper ad on the left side of the page anymore. Personally, I don't mind text-based ads nearly as much as graphic ads. ... Especially considering it was nearly always a creepy doll ad and I've never been quite the same since Child's Play as a kid.

    The absence of the skyscraper is excellent, but I do agree that the ad on the userinfo page is going to be more trouble than it's worth where it is now. What I would suggest you do is take another horizontal google ad and simply place it between Account Type and More Details. That way people still see it a good deal whenever they need to fiddle with their friendlist, but it's not completely in the way of anything either.

    Mind you, these are just suggestions from someone that really doesn't know much about having to deal with where to put ads, but I thought it'd be much more constructive than telling you to simply roll it back. Please, think of the doll-phobic.

    I'd much rather have the ad on the side instead of smack dab in the middle of the page! It just makes your entries look horrible. :-/ Thanks for trying though.

    I love how there were CONSTANT complaints about the old ad layout, but now that Squeaky's finally addressed the issue everyone wants it to go back to the old way...

    Hey, I like the way they look right now, but that might just be because I have a huge monitor. I think it's really awesome that we have someone like you who IS willing to modify their own site for better viewing access for the people who use it. Unlike, oh, the good four or so years when ~system didn't even talk to his own helpers? Really. Good job! ♥ Hope it gets fixed for everyone else soon. (:

    If you honestly really don't like the ads, why don't you all just use firefox to turn off the ads or download the IE7Pro, which blocks all adds for you? Google it if you want ads to go away that badly. Geesh.

    Thanks for all your hard work and your willingness to listen to the users.

    Just a small thing: there's still a huge space at the top of the user info page where the old horizontal ad use to be.

    I was just wondering are the ads going to continue to be Google ads? I remember all the troubles the other ads were causing, to myself, as well as a bunch of other IJ members.

    Thank you for sorting out the ad on the profile page - it was the only thing about the new ad layout that was driving me batty. Plus, thank you for removing the ad from the update page.

    Thanks Squeaky. I do appreciate this because the left side ads really did mess up alignment. I probably would have just moved right side (not as messy on alignment) but this works. And once I get used to them being there, I'm pretty certain will not bother me in the slightest.

    This confused me a bit - Paid users don't see ads though when they're logged in, right? Just if they're logged out, or it's a free account? If I still have to see ads, that would drop out at least some of my motivation to pay for an account.

    Thank you very much for changing the new placement of the ads to the top and bottom of the page, rather than the side of the page, where it was overlapping and screwing stuff up on the userpage. It is much appreciated!!! :-*

    This isn't a comment on the ads, I have adblocker so they don't affect me. What I want to know is why I keep getting page load errors all the time. I have been trying to RP and for the last 30 mins I have been getting page load error 90% of the time I refresh the page. This is really frustrating when you are in the middle of something and can't finish it because the page refuses to load. When is something going to be done about this?

    Why do the user info pages, as well as journal entries, take so much longer to load now? We never had this problem when the ads were vertically placed....

    I've been trying to figure out why the ad in the center of the page between an entry and comments is so irritating to people, as I didn't think I'd notice it really, but then I started replying to a lengthy rp thread tonight, and it got in my way. It makes it impossible to read the post you're replying to in it's entirety when there's a huge block of space between it and your reply. Which means constant scrolling up, or even writing it in notepad. It's extra work. I don't care about aesthetics (because, really, if someone won't use the site for something so trivial as ads that pay for the site, then they should just go somewhere else) but as far as functionality, it does make things a bit tedious than before. Having said that, thank you for fixing the userinfos, they look spectacular now.

    I have a few permanent accounts, but the rest I haven't been able to log on to due to personal reasons (I have many accounts, due to my being a roleplayer), but hey-- at least you haven't changed our profile page, and you LISTEN to us when we say we don't like something so much. I think that requires some props, because really, I'd take that over a site admin/admins not listening any day.

    This isn't related to ads and I'm sorry if it's been posted already (it's late and my eyes hurt) but I was wondering if I'm the only one noticing random changes in icon sizes in threads and with the one at the top of the page? One second it will be 100x100 and then it'll be something like 90x90, squished and blurry.
