It looks like we are once again taking in accounts for GreatestJournal. We are thrilled to have you here! We would like to point out that we do have the resources to take you in. And if the site continues to grow the way it has been then we will get even more resources as needed. We do have a plan in place to further expand the resources the site has. So you do not have to worry about us.

We do hope to win you over and have you host your journals, asylums (communities at other sites), roleplays, and fan fic here, we are also happy just to give you a place of refuge while GreatestJournal works out whatever issues they are having, and totally understand if you go back. We are really just happy to have all of our users here, temporary or permanent!

Also, I know there are a lot of people who are unhappy with the site design here on InsaneJournal. We are currently working on a new easier to use (and easier on the eyes) design that we hope to implement soon. Obviously we will get as much feedback as possible. In the meantime we have a number of older site layouts that you can use. To change to one of them go to http://www.insanejournal.com/manage/siteopts.bml
  • When you change the default layout for the site will there be the option to keep the current one? I actually quite like it.
  • I don't really have much to add, but I wanted to second the "Squeaky rocks!" sentiments. I love the fact you actually listen to your users' suggestions, like the site design, and that you communicate with them. And you're so welcoming to new users, too. It's just really awesome here!
  • Thank you so very much for your warm welcome. My RP group just decided to locate here, and I'm thrilled with the decision. I will likely be making all my accounts permanent, because I'm willing to pay for quality service, and it seems like that's exactly what you offer your users.
  • I'm so glad that you're so friendly and helpful to your users, and I'm really excited about a new layout. To be honest, I don't mind this one, but my one nitpick is that when you open up entry pages/comment pages, the background stays grey instead of being white with the black text on it. I hope that if and when you guys get another layout, you'll consider something bland for those of us who are so boring. :]
  • I don't think that the site's design needs to be changed a bit. That's what Viewing Options are for. If folks don't like it, tough. They know what they can do and I suggest that they do it. I really hope that no one is giving you hell over the way your site looks, because you're awesomeness and you don't deserve it.

All in all, I am glad to hear that the site is growing. Folks in my own circles are still transfering over, because this really is the place to be. I'm just thrilled beyond words to see the site readily welcoming so many new people!
  • :') I love you squeaky

We moved our roleplay game here and I couldn't be happier that we did so.
  • Suggestion for the new layout. Could you possibly make it sidekick friendly? Anything with the hover drop downs makes things impossible on there.
  • It's kind of sad that I read about the taking accounts for GJ here before it was posted anywhere on GJ.

Once again, thank you for the awesome communication and willingness to provide your users what they want/need.

I know some people from GJ are also wondering about the possibility of a feature to show who on their friends lists is logged in and a notifications page where we can see all of our comment notifications (rather than having to reply on them getting through to inboxes). Any chance of either/both getting implemented?
  • Thank god for IJ. I made my account here in November because of a friend thinking that I would never really use it but with all this shit GJ is pulling... *sighs* I'll stick with GJ until the bitter end but I think I'll be x-posting things here as well. Sort of a pre-empitive move?

  • Yes, very glad that I moved here. I've only been here for a couple of weeks so far, but I love it. I like that you're so informative with us users, and that you're so welcoming to those who are coming here for refuge. I'm not sure I can get one until sometime after the holidays, but I do seriously believe I will be buying a permanent account here. Rock on, IJ and Squeaky.
  • Just curious.. will you be adding more S2 layouts? Other than that, I think this site is awesome, and thank you so much for everything!

Also.. I don't know why this is happening but when I've made two accounts, both activation emails failed to be emailed till I went back and manually changed the address in the edit profile to another email and then back to mine again. Is there any reason why they aren't being sent out automatically?
  • I'm a transplant as of this morning. While fixing icons at GJ, they dropped the limit again (while I was in mid upload of one) and I lost all but 10 of my icons. Needless to say, it upset me greatly and I promptly created an account here. I was happy to get my original UN that I've been using for years at GJ and am quite impressed with the site.

I would like to ask though..in regards to the layouts for our journals. I used kunponent1 over at GJ because I like to make my own headers. I liked the layout itself and loved the fact that I could customize my header image. I've been through the layouts you offer and none seem to fit with the style I am used to. Is there any way that you could possibly get that particular layout for IJ as well? I'd love it if you could.

Thank you for taking me in and I'm sure that my circle of friends will be soon to follow.
  • If you put the layout style up that GJ has, you'd get a bunch of GJers over here, I bet. That's not the point. The point is that you inform GJers about the state of that site more than it's own admin, so props to you for that.
  • I feel like a battered spouse or something. Your niceness and willingness to accommodate does not compute.

I'm very glad you're working on a new site design. Meanwhile (to other people), I've found that putting a simple white-backed table on my entries is very helpful.
  • Thanks for keeping us updated and for caring so much. You're amazing!
  • I keep saying this but...you're amazing. I'm never leaving.
  • It's very nice to get regular updates on the state of the site, and plans for improving it. I know that I've heard a lot of dissatsifaction over the site appearance in the past so I think that the new layout idea is great!

One thing I wanted to ask about was feeds. I know I created various syn feeds, and most were coming through just fine but in the last few weeks two of them stopped completely and I'm not sure why, and a few others are only getting sporadic updates. Is there anything that can be done there?
  • i think you should do something just like GJ as far as site design goes. maybe with different colors? it was easy on the eyes, easy to use, and it is familiar. i like this place, and my games and my friends' games are all moving here. so i hope that things stay nice around here.
  • i've become horribly attached to the layout. it's become an obsession to hit refresh and see what the smiley will say next.

anyway! thank you very much for all the hard work you've put into the site.
  • Once again, thank you! You rock!
  • Hmm... I'm not really finding any of the current site options appealing, honestly, the black background ones kill my eyes. Right now I'm just going with the text based one. The only problem with that one is it's kind of hard to navigate around with it. Glad you're making up a new scheme, though. Should Scribblit never open, here or blurty is where I'm going to end up.

It'd be great if you let free users have moodthemes though! People have to host them off another server anyway.
That, and a few free syndicate feeds would definitely tip the balance to here.

That's one thing that ticked me off so much during most my two years at GJ... their feed maker is broken and they don't plan on fixing.

So. Bananas. What's your take on them?
  • you are incredibly cool. :) thank you for being so communicative and nice.
  • I'm fine with the current site design, except for the fact that the dropdown navigation doesn't work with Opera, and most of the other non-default designs are kind of icky.

And PS you rock as always, and happy xmas or whatever-you-celebrate :D
  • I can't even begin to tell you how amazing it is that you're not only providing for the GI refugees but actually listening to them despite the fact that they've only been 'your' users for a few days (in some cases only hours!). I can't think of many sites who would take 'we think your style scheme is ugly, please change it even though we're brand new!' so well as you are, let alone be accomodating, and I think it's a really fantastic indication of what you and your site are like. For those of us who were used to GJ's style of management, you're something of a Godsend. I really, really mean that. Even the fact that you bother to post updates or announcements and set timelines on things is almost shockingly responsible compared to what we came to expect. It's a bit like the heavens opened up and now we can have cheesy choir music!

Just thought maybe you'd like a little ego boost as thanks. ;)

  • This is brilliant news! Thank you so much for talking to us.

Also a small idea - A feature they have at GJ that is really appreciated, especially with the RPers, is the ability to preview icons while writing comments. Not as in the browse option like here, but if you choose an icon, you see it, so you can flip through them easily. It helps massively if you have 2 or 300 icons. It actually helps even if you have 20 as you don't need to press an extra button or remember the name to choose the right icon. (Allows you to name them things like Laughing 1, 2, 3 and so on).

Keep making this a great site. :D
