Marauders!: An 80s AU

There are times that I miss living in the city. It had its own benefits. Lots of noise, lots of distraction, lots of people. It was easy to get overwhelmed, and easy to be overlooked, and just easy. Everything within reach, any achievement a possibility. I often thought about how simply lonely it was, to be in such a confined space with so many other people. The country is vastly different. There is so much - almost too much - space. It's easier to notice and to be noticed, but there's also more room for my mind to wander. I don't think I ever thought this much in the city, there wasn't enough room. Ideas couldn't unfold and flex themselves. They can, here.

If I stand still enough outside, at night, it's like I can be lonely again. Nothing notices, nothing makes assumptions. I can stand on the porch and watch the yard come to life. There are so many sounds. Rustling grass, insect wings, bats chittering with each other. Occasionally there are rabbits. Occasionally there are people, walking without seeing. When did we forget how to look? How is it some of us manage to remember?

This would be a great space for a party.

So. Have decided it's probably time to find a proper flat, rather than keep renting a room at the Leaky. Recommendations?

Yesterday's conversation was quite interesting. I look forward to having the opportunity for a more in-depth discussion about your lesson plan. We can work closely to come up with a curriculum that could be as exciting for us as it is for the students. Drinks should give us said opportunity.

Being a man of leisure, I'm free any evening. If Malfoy manor is a little too daunting, Kreacher has cleaned a few rooms at Grimmauld Place, although I'm not sure the house is very welcoming at the moment. On the other hand, it would be private. Let me know if that's acceptable or you have another suggestion.

Just over two weeks and another year at Hogwarts begins. Well, it's the first year for me, technically. I should be excited to return, but I'm actually terrified. When I was last in school I actually knew people there. Not that I don't know the other staff, it's just odd, I suppose.

Anyway, I know I've been out of touch lately. The summer's been busy with preparing for my new job. What have I missed?

I know this will come as a surprise, but I - Regulus - am alive. For reasons to complicated to explain here, I decided to disappear after the Dark Lord's demise. However, new and raising Dark wizards have convinced me that it's time to return from the land of the dead.

The only thing Skeeter ever gets right is how terribly incompetent your lot is. Do I need to save you from another war? Because it's starting to look like it might be a possibility. You have dark wizards killing people to gain more power, losing their souls in the process and what do you do? Nothing, because that's what Aurors do.

A disgrace!

I can give you a name and location where you can find one of them and then I suppose I'll have to come home and accept the fact that I'm the true hero who not only stopped Voldemort, but now is solving this raising problem.

Marauders! is an AU 80s game based upon three major 'fixes' to canon. First, Peter died rather than give up the Potters, and despite Voldemort ripping the secret from his mind that fateful Halloween night had a rather different outcome. James and Lily survived, and Voldemort is presumed dead. Harry's still got his scar, but Dumbledore says not to worry about it. Second, Regulus got the ring to Dumbledore and Dumbledore was able to destroy it without cursing himself. Regulus was presumed dead as well, but not everything is as it seems. Third, the Lestranges were defeated before they could drive the Longbottoms insane, and are currently languishing in Azkaban while the Longbottoms (among others) are alive and mostly well. Current game plots: A dark-wizard cult has been kidnapping and killing people in the name of power. An unlikely source comes forward with information on how to stop them.
