Setting: The Temple

Samson wasn’t sure why he was keeping things from Epiphany or even more so, why she was so desperate to know what he’d been up to. She’d never asked about other partners before. She had to have seen him with the few women he’d been with since leaving the Temple’s hideout. It wasn’t like he hid that he occasionally slept with women.

But she was hung up on Wren and for some reason he was desperate to keep Wren a secret.

Not that he could get her out of his head. Even as the train trundled down the track to the Temple, moving faster than the subways would have in the past, he was pouring through the code he’d pulled from her neuro implant, looking for the errors.

Setting: morning after the fireworks, across town

Samson was actually more of a fan of the aftermath of the Fireworks Jamboree than of the fireworks themselves. They seemed too close for someone who’d grown up underground. So he stayed low during the party, then headed out again around dawn. He checked on a few of the street cams near his place, mostly because he knew Epiphany would worry if she couldn’t see anything where he lived.

It gave him something to do in the weird quiet of the morning. The city wasn’t usually like that, but with all the celebration, it took a little longer to wake up than usual. He reconnected another wire, then hopped down off his ladder, scanning the street for more and wondering if Epiphany was awake yet to give him a heads up on what might not be working correctly.

Setting: The Temple, late afternoon

Samson checked his watch at the train trundled along its tracks, not really needing the watch, with him implants, but he kind of liked the feel or it on his arm. And it was nice enough that once he’d fixed it, he could set alerts on it. It was slowly ticking down the minutes to when he was supposed to meet with Epiphany. He kept her on a schedule, too worried about the endless hack of enhancements added to her body to not check in regularly.

And it was easier when they knew to expect him. They handled his reappearance better when they knew to expect it.
