Fireworks night was quite the party, but the come down was worse than any hangover. It seems that the annual agreement that is in place for the hackers to come together to take down all of the CCTV and surveillance failed this year. Central Park was being watched.
In the aftermath of the party, community service orders landed in the inboxes of anyone who committed a crime that night. From drug dealers and thieves down to illegal liquor sellers and anyone found to have 'offended public indecency'. Twelve hours non-stop community service given across the board for each individual crime. If a person has committed more than one crime in the night, their community service orders run on, one after another. No rest breaks, no food breaks, no bathroom breaks. Anyone who doesn't show up for community service or who stops during their service time - that's an immediate death sentence.
Today's community service is work cleaning fat deposits out of the city sewers. Have fun.
Rumours start that there's a rogue hacker out there. One - or maybe more than one - who is actually working for the city. Either saying they'll take down cameras, but not doing so. Or maybe actually working to reinstate surveillance that has been taken out of action by others. Regardless of the reality, the rumour spreads like wildfire - people need to watch their backs. Hackers can't be trusted. The stakes are higher for those who survive on the dark side of the law.
In other news, a new drug starts to appear on the streets. It's hard to come by and more legend than fully available right now. It's call Paradise - because apparently it takes you there. It's being hailed as the next big thing. If you can get your hands on any. Addicts want it, dealers want a supply of it. Everyone's after those who get things to find a way to get it into the city.

Tonight is the Annual Fireworks Jamboree held in honor of struggles both ancient and recent. It's a night where both rich and poor look forward to, with brilliant fireworks displays that go on deep into the night. Parties break out everywhere, though the most uproarious is in Central Park, which gets pretty crazy, and it's one of the only nights a year they welcome everyone with open arms and lots of alcohol. It's also one of the only nights a year where hackers work together to basically shut down the authorities system so no one gets caught doing something they shouldn't while everyone's just trying to have a good time. At dawn the Jamboree is finished, and normal life resumes, but no one wants to miss out on the party.
