OPEN: Molly Sue's Birthday Night Out
Who: Frank Markham, Molly Sue, open to all [Add your tags please]
What: Club Night
When: 4th June 2028
Where: Carnival
Warnings: Please add to headers
Completion Status: OPEN

There had a bit of a debate thrown around about what to do for Molly's birthday, but in the end the expedient choice of Carnival was chosen and a mass of texts sent out. Plus people were told to invite others if they wanted.

The music was thumping and Frank had tossed a few coins to the DJ to make sure a few songs they knew Molly loved would be put into the rotation. There was a good number of people crowding the club and a flash of many bright and shiny colours as they moved to the music. To varying degrees of success.

Frank recognised Hunter from photos she'd seen on social media and that Molly had shared but he'd changed a fair amount since school. Probably all the training, plus it wasn't like they'd been friends in school anyway. "Hey Hunter," they called with a bright smile, managing to reign in their bounce to a slight bobbing along to the music. "Not yet. I had some business with the DJ," they said, slinging a thumb in that direction. "She's probably in the VIP section at a guess."

It was a major bonus of Molly's club jobs, and one they had been enjoying from time to time when they went out with Molly. "Did you just arrive? Did you win?" They knew he'd had a match from what Molly had said, but absolutely hadn't thought to look up any potential results while blasting music as they got ready.

He needed to make more of an effort to spend time with Molly's friends, Hunter thought. She had a lot more friends than he did, though that wasn't really a surprise. Molly was a social butterfly and he loved her for it.

"Probably," Hunter agreed, remembering that Molly had been texting the promoter. "Yeah, just got here." He perked up at the mention of the match. "And yes, we did. Good game." The final score had been in their favour and the game hadn't been too taxing physically, standing them in good stead for their next encounter. Tomorrow they'd find out whether they were going to be playing the Cannons or the Kestrels.

He wondered what she'd been talking to the DJ about. They he corrected himself sternly. He might not know Molly's friend well but he knew enough not to be an arsehole. His question was answered a moment later when a song that he was certain was on at least three of Molly's playlists came on. A corresponding squeal went up from the VIP section and he grinned.

"I think I found her," he joked.

His enthusiasm for the match was pretty infectious even though Frank had never fully dived into Quidditch beyond watching at school. "Congratulations," they said with a bright smile, pressing their hands together in an aborted and impossible attempt to clap given their surroundings.

When the first of their requests dropped in Frankie punched the air in pleasure. It hadn't been a massive tip but apparently it had worked. "Well I'll remember that trick for the future," they commented mostly to themself.

"You're probably not actually wrong," they said and tilted in the right direction. "I was trying to find her anyway. Want to lead the way, seems like I go through crowds like a pinball." It wasn't true if they weren't bouncing, but they were in a pretty bouncy mood. Being short had its advantages and disadvantages when trying to negotiate a crowd. Smaller gaps worked, but being overlooked meant getting trampled sometimes.

"Yeah, I can clear a path," Hunter said with a good-natured smile. He hadn't inherited all of his dad's height, but he still had a few inches on Frank, plus the bulk of a physique that was tailored towards strength. He wasn't a mountain of muscle like Gavin, but he could still get through a crowd if needed.

He pointed exaggeratedly in the direction of the VIP section entrance. "Onwards!"

His exaggerated movements made the already pretty hyped up Frank explode into their giggling laugh. "Oh, shit that just reminds me of kids directing piggyback rides," they said, copying the move. "Onwards!" Apparently tonight was not the night to try additionally mind altering substances if they were already this buoyed up on life and a single shot.

They tucked in behind Hunter and followed him to the edge of the busy dancefloor before bouncing up beside him when there was a little more room. "I suddenly feel like I'm missing something," they said with a frown and started looking down at their outfit and patting their various pockets. Wand, phone and money were all present. They looked down again realised they had left off a pronoun pin. They made a little disgruntled sound as they approached the bouncer to the VIP area. "Well that's annoying, but not a disaster."

Hunter laughed. He'd probably done that a few times in his childhood, demanding to get up on his dad's shoulders to look over crowds or pretend he was riding some fantastic beast.

"Everything alright?" he checked, glancing behind them. He didn't think he'd heard Frank drop anything, though it would be hard to heard much of anything over the music.

Frank pulled a slightly irritated face. "Nah, it'll be fine. I'll see if I can transfigure something in a minute. I just tend to get misgendered more when my chest is so visible," they said and shrugged. "I forgot my pronoun pin, but like I said I can probably transfigure something."

They looked up at the bouncer. "Hey, we're with Molly Sue Weasley's party. Frank Markham and Hunter...fuck your last name went out of my head," they said and looked pleadingly at him. They were assuming there was a list going on past experience of Molly and VIP areas.

"Ah, right." Hunter didn't really know what to say to that and while he couldn't sympathise he still had empathy. Transfiguration wasn't one of his strong suites, otherwise he would have volunteered to help out with a new pin.

He grinned as Frank tried to charm the bouncer and promptly forgot his name. It wasn't often that he spent time with people who didn't know his name and a little bit of humbling was good for him. "McLaggen," he supplied, giving the bouncer a nod. Molly would be expecting them both.

The bouncer, a tall, bulky person with a short salt-and-pepper haircut, a pierced eyebrow, and a very sharp suit, gave them a slight smile and looked down at the device they were holding. There was an amused smile at the corners of their mouth which Frank took to mean they had probably recognised Hunter for reasons not related to being Molly's partner. "You're both on the list. And I couldn't help but overhear. I'm Jen, she/her. If you ask the wait staff there might be some stray pronoun pins behind the bar, but otherwise ask them to let you have a bottle top, they should transfigure well and we're not short of them."

Frank gave Jen a grateful smile and nod, something pinging that she was probably also some variety of queer. "Thanks for the advice, Jen. That should work great."

A moment or two later Jen flicked her wand at the barrier and let the two of them pass through. Frank bounded into the area, scanning for Molly. The bright blonde usually gave her away. "Do you see her?" they asked as they distractedly eyed the bar more than the room.

Hunter scanned the exclusive crowd in the VIP section, spotting Molly Sue with relative easy. He practically had hearts in his eyes from the moment he set eyes on her. There was no denying how stunning she looked and he loved that she had decided to fully embrace her style tonight and eschew regular clubbing court.

"Yeah, holding court over there," he said pointing. Seeing Frank eyeing up the bar, he gave them a gentle nudge with his elbow. "Just go and ask," he encouraged. "You know you want to."

Once Hunter pointed her out Molly was blindingly obvious and Frank grinned and waved to her. They saw Hunter's expression out of the corner of their eye and grinned. Clearly he was smitten.

"Yeah, let Molly know I'll be over in a minute," they said. They hadn't brought Molly's gift, even though spa gift card would have fitted in their pockets. They had been inspired by their own visit to the spa and the post-massage euphoria. They patted Hunter on the arm and made a beeline for the bar.
