OPEN: Molly Sue's Birthday Night Out
Who: Frank Markham, Molly Sue, open to all [Add your tags please]
What: Club Night
When: 4th June 2028
Where: Carnival
Warnings: Please add to headers
Completion Status: OPEN

There had a bit of a debate thrown around about what to do for Molly's birthday, but in the end the expedient choice of Carnival was chosen and a mass of texts sent out. Plus people were told to invite others if they wanted.

The music was thumping and Frank had tossed a few coins to the DJ to make sure a few songs they knew Molly loved would be put into the rotation. There was a good number of people crowding the club and a flash of many bright and shiny colours as they moved to the music. To varying degrees of success.

It didn't take long inside the club for Eliza to spot a rough looking guy in a wrinkle collared shirt standing at the bar. She gave Roxy an excited look and before Roxy could say anything flitted off after him.

Roxy managed to she her cousins in the VIP area and made her way up wishing Molly a happy birthday before picking up a drink and settling into one of the oversized velvet couches that lined the outside of the dance floor. She'd make it out there at one point in tonight, she just might need a little extra help to get there.

His attempt at becoming more social wasn't going so well, Fred could admit to himself. Every time he thought he was making progress, he found himself falling back into old habits, hiding away. Even though his coffee date with Violet Nott had gone well a few months ago, he'd utterly failed to follow through on that second date. Anxiety was a persistent, obnoxious companion, but he wasn't giving up. His therapist was supportive, reminding him that becoming more social was a long-term goal, not something he should expect to overcome in such a short time.

But for Molly's birthday, he thought he could try. Not only were they cousins, they'd shared Ravenclaw house for seven years. They might be wildly different people, but she was family, and it felt right to come out and celebrate her.

That didn't mean he wasn't relieved when he quickly spotted his sister not long after arriving. He followed her up to the VIP area, flopping onto the cushion next to her while still giving her a little bit of space. "Look at us, showing up for Molls," he said by way of greeting, letting some of his anxiety show in his smile if only because it was Roxy and he knew she would understand.

Oh thank the gods, she thought as Fred filled in the seat vacated by Eliza. She took her scruffy stranger and a bottle of jack all to themselves at the far end of the VIP area.

"Look at us both out. Eliza picked out the dress." She felt a little self-conscious knowing it was her brother seeing her dressed like this.

"Did you ever manage to follow-up with that girl from the coffee shop?"
She'd been so happy to hear he'd gone out on a date and that it had gone well. Even if she was still discovering herself and what she liked.

At her acknowledgement of it, Fred glanced at the dress in question. He scoffed softly, shaking his head a bit. It was exactly the sort of dress he would expect Eliza to pick out, which made it bizarre to see on his sister. "You are far more adventurous than I," he commented lightly. He'd worn a simple pair of slacks with a dark blue shirt and couldn't imagine wearing some of the things he'd seen guys wearing at the club. Including, or maybe especially, Albie, who seemed to have the most eclectic fashion sense of the cousins.

The question surprised him, and he looked at his sister with a raised brow. "I did... not," he admitted, cringing faintly. "I sort of did at first, but scheduling was being tricky and then I sort of... gave up? Not my best look, I know, but I'm not sure she'd want to hear from me again now, after all this time." And if her life really was so stressful, being in the spotlight and all, maybe it was best they didn't give it a proper go.

She tried not to read too far into her brother's glance as he took in the dress. Eliza knew the scene the best, especially with Molly in a relationship with Hunter. "I think you are more adventurous than you give yourself credit for." She told him, confidently. She never thought he'd make his way into a club.

She furrowed her brow again at his admission. He'd spoken about how much fun he had that she'd hope that enthusiasm would at least pull him to follow through. "One of us needs to be improving." She pouted a bit. "I'll have to live vicariously through you while I'm figuring all this," she gestured to her entire outfit. "Out."

It was nice that she thought so highly of him, but Fred was far too self-aware to agree with her. He hadn't come to the club tonight for himself, after all, and he had no intention of socializing in any of the ways he in which he needed practice, which he thought kept him pretty low on the adventurous chart.

"I vote you," he said with a soft chuckle. She definitely seemed more open to it all than he was, and he hoped she would find her balance with it all soon. He wanted to see his sister happy, even if it continued to elude him. "I'm hardly worth living vicariously through, though. You should go for someone more exciting. Though perhaps not Eliza. She might be a bit much," he pointed out teasingly, glancing over at where their friend was flirting rather heavily with that guy.

"I just want you to be happy, Fred." She nudged him playfully. "I think you deserve that." She pulled a couple of champagne flutes from one of the floating trays, handing one of them to her brother. "We both do." She looked out onto the dance floor and at Eliza.

She thought back to her trip out to Taboo and wondered if Iris was single. It was a silly thing to think and probably in appropriate considering her work. She smiled at her brother. "I'll try my best."

Not wanting to be rude, Fred took the flute of champagne, though he had no intention of drinking it. He would hang onto it until she'd finished her drink and then offer it back to her, or he'd pass it off to one of their cousins. It wasn't as though anyone would be surprised he wasn't drinking, he just preferred not to make a big deal out of it. Making a big deal would require explaining, and despite his continued encouragement from his therapist, he just wasn't sure he would ever want to tell his family what he'd gone through.

"Yeah? Think you might be brave enough to ask someone to dance?" he asked teasingly. Dressed like she was, Fred had to imagine it would be easy for her to find someone to dance with. Now, would that person be good enough for his sister? Probably not. But he wasn't about to discourage her from having a bit of fun if she felt up to it.

"If I didn't it probably wouldn't be up here." She admitted after a quick scan of the VIP area. Most everyone had paired off or disperse out of the small area into the wider club. Even Eliza had since vanished with her mysterious stranger towards the front of the club and most likely into her or his flat. She looked out into the dance floor at the groups of witches dancing around each other and she worried if she could find her way down there and intermingle with the crowd without sticking out.

Her eyes turned to her brother and the glass of champagne. "Are you going to finish that?" She wasn't drunk but she was nervous. Her first true night out since their talk and she realized she'd need all the courage she could muster.

"Are you going to be okay if I disappear?"

When Roxy zeroed in on his champagne, he gave a soft, relieved chuckle and held it out to her. "Have at it." It wasn't like he was going to lecture her on the dangers of drinking. He would do his best to look out for her, but he knew the importance of making one's own decisions.

"I'll be fine. You should have some fun," he encouraged her. Fred knew several of the faces flitting in and out of the VIP area. He was sure he could entertain himself with a conversation or two before making sure he told Molls happy birthday and ducked out.
