RP: Honey, I'm Home
Who: Thad & Dagny
What: Domestic bliss...
When: 1 March 2028
Where: Their cottage
Warnings: None
Completion Status: Complete

Friday's loss against the Wasps had been a low blow for Thad, especially as they'd been up by two hundred thirty points before the other team's seeker had caught the snitch. He'd felt as though he'd let his team down, especially coming off last season's well-earned victory. Although he'd tried not to let the disappointment in himself bleed into his personal life, Thad knew he'd been in a bit of a mood over the weekend, and he felt a bit bad about that.

Even though he'd spent extra time in training since the game, he was making sure to be home at a decent time tonight, stopping on the way for something special for his girlfriend, who had been wonderfully patient and supportive as the season started up again. It was a quick stop in at Petals and Pretties for a vibrant, spring bouquet and another short detour to Victory Bar for takeaway, having messaged Dagny earlier to warn her he was handling dinner tonight.

Having showered in the locker room after practice, Thad was clean and as relaxed as he'd been in days when he appeared home with a soft pop just inside the front door of their little cottage. And gods did he love thinking of it as theirs.

"Honey, I'm home," he called out playfully, not spotting her right away, as he walked past the living room and kitchen to set the bouquet and takeaway on the dining room table.

"That may have been part of it," he answered with mock seriousness. He wasn't fussed about flowers, but he could admit that he liked having them about if only because they made him think of her. As if his mind wasn't entertaining thoughts of her eighty percent of the time already.

Thad grinned at that, the corners of his eyes crinkling. "Yes, but it's my job. One I'm usually quite good at, even. I don't expect to catch it every time, but first game of the season? After such a huge win last season? Yeah, it stung a bit." But he wasn't going to obsess over it anymore. He'd amped up his training and would work his tail off to ensure he didn't have another game like that this season.

Ducking his head down, he brushed a light kiss over the tip of her nose. "Let's eat, though, yeah?" he suggested, as reticent to pull away as she seemed to be. Still, the sooner they ate, the sooner he could get her naked. Finally pulling away, he slipped into the kitchen for utensils and drinks. "Do we still have any of that orange fizzy stuff?" he asked as he opened the refrigerator.

She’d get used to it eventually, Dagny supposed, the ups and downs of the Quidditch season. She had never actually seen the Magpies lose a game, so this was new. For Thad and the rest of the team she hoped that losses remained rare. It made her sad to see Thad in a mood and she hoped she’d given him the space he needed to work through that frustration.

"Yeah, I think so." Dagny picked up the bouquet, taking a moment to inhale the scent of the flowers. "Unless you finished it yesterday?" She’d been drinking coffee this afternoon, the sweetened, doctored kind that she rarely indulged in. "I’ll just have water."

It had felt entirely natural to ask her even though he was in the kitchen looking, and Thad was struck for a moment, the fizzy soda in hand, at how smoothly they'd blended their lives. He'd never lived with a girlfriend before and hadn't even had roommates after Hogwarts, and so he hadn't been sure what to expect. But gods, did he love having her here!

"You were right, we did still have some," he told her. After pouring their drinks, he brought everything out. "Table or couch?" he asked. He was never particularly fussed about where they ate, enjoying aspects of both. Having a meal at the table was normal to him, his family having had meals together both formally and informally at the table, and he always enjoyed the intimacy of conversing over a meal with her. But he also enjoyed the more casual nights of sitting and watching a show together while they ate, exchanging thoughts and commentary as they did.

Dagny had located a vase and used her wand to finish filling it with water, adjusting the beautiful flowers. "Couch," she decided, moving the bouquet to the middle of the dining table. There was something about takeout food that she always thought lent itself to a more casual arrangement. Besides, she just wanted to be comfortable today.

She exchanged the glass of water for a kiss on the cheek. "The food smells good." Dagny hadn't eaten much this afternoon, her appetite disappearing, but something about the smell of food or the comfort of Thad's presence meant she was growing hungry quickly.

"I was thinking, our dream home needs a good kitchen. For when we do feel like cooking." She could picture Thad being like his dad one day, hosting family brunch on the weekend.

While a part of him had always known he would want what his parents had someday, he'd never expected to find it this early in his life, but he knew he never wanted to lose her. He loved how easily they'd settled into these domestic routines, he thought as she dealt with the flowers. "Good. I went with today's special. Lisa swore we wouldn't be disappointed."

He couldn't help grinning at that, thrilled that she'd been thinking about their dream home. So far, things were okay at the cottage, but he knew they would need and want more space before too long. "Definitely a good kitchen," he agreed easily. He didn't think he'd ever be anything like a master chef, or even as good in the kitchen as his dad was, but it was a skill he fully intended on cultivating, enjoying spoiling her. "What else are you thinking? Any wild wants for it?" he asked as they moved everything to the couch.

"Nothing wild. Only the things we've talked about before. I really want an office space." Dagny took a sip of water. "And an area outside for eating? I know it's not something we could use all year round, but when the weather is good..." She shrugged. Dagny liked the space that they had here at the cottage, how they'd sometimes had breakfast out there before it had truly gotten too cold for it.

It was so wonderful to be making these plans, to be thinking of ways they would make a place their own. Moving in with Thad had been so much smoother and easier than she had ever imagined. Dagny couldn't imagine a future without him.

Thad nodded at her answer, not surprised by that, but also still wondering if there were things she might want that she hadn't realized yet. "Definitely both of those. How many bedrooms, do you think?" He didn't want a home as big as his parents' house, not even close, but he liked the idea of a home they could grow in.

Settling on the couch, he propped his feet up on the coffee table, leaning back against the cushions with his tray of food held in one hand. He used his other hand to flick his wand at the tele, navigating to the show they'd been watching lately.

Now there was a question with another question beneath it. They'd both said they wanted a family, but how did people plan for something like that? "I don't know. Three?" Was that reasonable. "Four?" Dagny pulled a face, deciding she might as well admit it. "How do you even decide something like that? What do you think?"

She shifted back against the couch cushions, getting comfortable as the title sequence started.

As she answered, he was already nodding along before she turned it back around on him, and he gave an awkward cringing chuckle. "I don't know? Those things can be hard to predict, right? But I imagine three or four plus the office would be practical," he said. Far more practical than the main house here or the one bedroom cottage that was currently their home.

Somehow he couldn't imagine them wanting enough children someday to need more than four bedrooms total, but they were both still young, and he didn't think either of them were in a rush to figure that part of it out.

Dagny was relieved that Thad was as uncertain about it as she was. That they were at the same stage in their lives made it easier and while she liked the idea of creating a family when they were ready she knew she couldn’t picture having four kids like the Notts. She didn’t want to lose sight of how lucky and privileged they were to be able to talk about what they wanted and not what they could afford.

“I have this idea in my head,” she admitted, “that when we find the right place we’ll just know straight away.” Dagny wrinkled her nose, knowing that it sounded ridiculously optimistic. Not that she was in any rush to move, firmly believing that moving in here was one of the best choices she’d ever made.

The food was good, but neither it nor the show were enough to distract him from the conversation at hand. Their future seemed somehow both fixed and utterly open, stable and yet flexible, and he loved imagining what it would look like.

"I reckon you're right," he agreed, grinning at the way her nose scrunched up. Gods, she was beautiful and adorable. And his. It made him feel a bit like a caveman to think of her in that possessive way, but he also couldn't help it. Maybe it balanced out because he also thought of himself as hers. "Though there's some appeal in buying a bit of land and building our dream home. Unless the idea of a place with history appeals to you more?"

Washing down a bite of food with a sip of her water, Dagny shrugged. "I guess I'm not married to the idea either way. I know what you mean, though. We could make somewhere that's all ours, a little bit of each of us." Saying it aloud, the appeal of the idea did start to grow.

She smiled, the contrast of her life today with this time last year so very stark. "No harm in us meeting architects too?" she suggested.

As she spoke, it seemed clear that the idea was growing on her the same way the idea of house hunting had in the first place once he'd brought up an office. "Exactly. We could even jump around some listings to get an idea of the sorts of features we like in person," he suggested. It shouldn't be too difficult for them to schedule time off between them to look at some houses already built.

"Should I sort out a list of realtors and architects or would you like to?" he asked, not wanting to assume either way. He figured it would be more efficient for one of them to handle it rather than both, but he was flexible. He fully intended to ask his parents for recommendations if she wanted him to handle it, anyway.

Dagny nodded. That made sense. Even if they didn't find a house that was the one for them they might find elements of it elsewhere, things that they could knit together into something perfect that was just theirs. The thought of that warmed her heart and, impulsively, she leaned over to kiss him.

"We can split it," she suggested, drawing away slowly. "One of us takes architects, the other realtors."

Thad nodded around a bite, thinking that made a lot more sense than one of them handling it all. "I'll take the realtors," he offered, thinking that he trusted her to better filter through architects than he would be able to. It was all rather exciting, and yet he felt a certain calm about it all.

"Deal." Dagny's smile turned bright and excited, the thrill of how easy it was to make these small decisions giving her hope that the big choices would be settled just as easily in future. She wouldn't fool herself into thinking that they would never have disagreements, but there was a good foundation here.

She let the TV distract her a little bit as she picked at her food. Dagny stole a glance at Thad, excitement buzzing in her chest simply to be with him. Love was amazing.
