Tragic Deaths in Surrey Betty Braithwaite Saturday evening, a peaceful family was struck by horror and tragedy. The Selwynn family, long time supporters of the Ministry of Magic, frequent donators to the Ministry's many charitable endeavors, and vocal advocates of wizarding rights were brutally murdered in their own homes.
Neighbors expressed shock and outrage at the act, citing their neighbors as peaceful, friendly people who had never caused offense to anyone who met them. "Mrs. Selwynn made me a pie when my son was in Mungo's," one neighbor laments of the eldest Mrs. Selwynn. "She was always so friendly." While official investigation reports have yet to be announced, sources within the Auror department claim that known supporters of Undesirable #1, Harry James Potter, were seen in the area, and reportedly had threatened the younger Mr. Selwynn on a previous occasion. An anonymous source also claims that Potter himself was seen fleeing the area. More on this story as the details are released, but the hearts and best wishes of the Daily Prophet staff go out to friends and extended family of the Selwynn's, and wish them the best in this time of grief. |

Banking Disaster Blamed On Rebelling Goblin Betty Braithwaite
Pureblood witches and wizards, many among the elite of wizarding society, are still feeling the financial ramification of this week’s confusion at Gringotts bank. After days of wondering, waiting, and calling for the perpetrator’s of this week’s vicious denial of their rightful possession of their own fortunes, witches and wizards can finally rest easy.
While Gringotts management was unwilling to release the name of the goblin responsible, sources inside the Ministry have confirmed that a goblin called Griphook, a senior manager at Gingotts, was to blame for the heinous act against.
Griphook himself has not been found for questioning in the matter, but a note has been released that is purported to have been written by the goblin. In this note, Griphook cites outrageous claims against the Ministry of Magic and against wizardkind in general, and calls on goblins, apparently, to rebel. One can only hope that no other goblins take up Griphook's insane plight.
As of this morning, Gringotts has reported that the ensuing confusion has been corrected, and that all witches and wizards should have access once more to their vaults. |

Pius Thicknesse Appointed Minister of Magic Betty Braithwaite
In a closed-door session this morning the remaining Wizengamot members selected Pius Thicknesse, acting head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, as the recently deceased Rufus Scrimgeour’s successor to the office of Minister of Magic.
Thicknesse was sworn in to the highest position in wizarding Britian at a rushed private ceremony in the Minister’s Office, presided over by newly appointed Chief Warlock of the Wizengamot, Dolores Umbridge, who fills her position in the wake of the death of Albus Dumbledore.
When asked about his immediate plans, Thicknesse answered, “I plan to clean up the mess that Scrimgeour made of this Ministry, and to see to it that all wizards and witches are protected in the trying times that may be to come.”
Confirmed Deaths Less Than Previously Thought Betty Braithwaite
To the great relief of many, the official list of those confirmed dead in Friday evening’s attack by persons unknown on the Ministry of Magic is shorter than had been previously thought.
It is this reporter’s great sadness to report the following deaths: Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour, former Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, Head of the Goblin Liason Office Dirk Cresswell, Head for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures Amos Diggory, Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office Mafalda Hopkirk, Ministry Spokesperson Stamford Jorkins, Louise Leander and Karl Christos of the Department of Mysteries, Eudora Gordon of the Department of Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures, and Amaryllis Urland of the Department of Magical Games and Sports. Many others were injured, and have been being treated at St. Mungo’s Hospital. Several of these injuries were serious.
The Daily Prophet extends its deepest sympathies to the families of the lost. |

Boy-Who-Lived Sought for Questioning in Ministry Deaths Betty Braithwaite
In a shocking turn of events, it has come to light that Harry Potter, the so called Boy-Who-Lived and supposed hero of the wizarding world, was sighted in the Ministry of Magic last night as both Minister of Magic Rufus Scrimgeour and former Hogwarts Headmaster Albus Dumbledore were both murdered by unknown parties.
Potter, and his friends Ronald Weasley and muggleborn witch Hermione Granger have reportedly not returned to Hogwarts. If anyone knows of the whereabouts of these students, they are required to inform the Ministry of Magic at once, by order of Senior Undersecretary Dolores Umbridge. |
