Who:Order Members, DA Members, Hogwarts Students, Aurors Stationed at Hogwarts
What:The Attack on Hogwarts
Where:Hogwarts
When:This evening, dusk
Rating: Adult

The day had been long, dragging. Minerva McGonagall, however, felt a deep sort of calm. It was her job, after all, to be steady. She had always been a good woman in a storm. Still, Minerva had the digging idea that something was wrong. Something about Albus, and the way he’d assured her that the night would end exactly as it should. Something about the way he’d been so quick to claim responsibility for keeping track of Potter, the most valuable of their charges if He showed himself tonight, during what was to come. Minerva had never trusted him when his eyes had taken on that certain, dark sort of sparkle.

It was not her job tonight, though, to question him. She had instructed the Prefects that they were to be vigilant about their dorms tonight, that any student caught out of bed would be not only their responsibility but also their fault, and then the long waiting had begun.

Order members began arriving soon after, and as dusk fell around Hogwarts, there was a confederation of adults who, at first thought, did not belong. Many had not stepped foot onto these grounds since Minerva herself had been a student here. Still, the defense of Hogwarts was not just the defense of the property, or the defense of a landmark of the Wizarding world. The students here were not simply wizards and witches in need of help – they were the future of their kind, and Minerva felt sure that every Order member who arrived, looking grave and worried and stalwart, was entirely in agreement on how important it was that Hogwarts stand. That Hogwarts survive, and that none of the children in her walls came to harm.

Seamus & Open (Gryffindor Student/Prefect/DA member)

Despite all of the training they had gone through and everything they learned over the years through Harry, Seamus never thought he'd have to use any of it. Not ever, but at least not while he was still in school. They were supposed to be safe inside the walls of the castle, but the urgency of the DA meeting the night before proved otherwise.

Originally he was going to walk the halls with the prefects, till he noticed that Harry and Ron weren't in the dorm rooms. None of the 6th or 7th year girls had seen Hermione, either. This concerned him slightly. Actually, it concerned him alot. None of the other prefects in the house were in the DA, so they had no idea what was going on. He didn't know where Dean and Neville went off to, as he hadn't seen them since dinner.

So all of a sudden, Seamus realized that he could be the house's first - and last - line of defense if something did happen. With his wand in his robe and the latest issue of Quidditch Weekly tucked under his arm, he made his way to the common room, sat in one of the chairs, and tried to look as non-worried as possible.

It was going to be a long night.

Oliver/Twins/others? (Hallways)

Oliver wasn't thrilled about this. At all. Yeah, it was nice being back at his home for so long, but not under the circumstances that they were there. Especially since he felt like his magic was rusty. He was an athlete for Merlin's sake! He wasn't supposed to be fighting battles, he was supposed to be playing Quidditch and doing celebrity-type things.

But, he loved his friends and didn't want to see any of them hurt. Or his family for that matter. Hell, his friends were his family. That's why he agreed to the Order in the first place - to protect his friends and family. And well, if his family requested his help to protect the future of the wizarding world, he was obligated to take the call.

And as grumbly as he was with the Weasley twins over their new business venture, he couldn't imagine walking the halls with anyone else. They were keeping him sane in the madness of the unknowing.

"I swear to ya, if we make it through this? You lot can replicate my cock all you want to." A statement he was going to regret, for sure, but in a way, their plans were minuscule compared to putting his life on the line.

When the Weasleys came to Hogwarts, it was bloody hard to keep quiet about it. Not that Fred had been trying to be loud about it or anything, but there were so many Order members in the family - hell, the whole family, really - ta showing up en masse to defend the castle was a noticeable army of red hair.

He and George had come with their dad, but he'd left to go and find the Headmistress, and Fred and George weren't in a particular hurry to see old Professors. So they'd ended up with Wood, which wasn't a bad way to end up really.

"Hear that, George," Fred said with a snort that ran counter to the fact that he was stacked up with defense items and had his wand in his hand. "We have permission."

"Don't get too excited," he said, rolling his eyes so they could see.

Oliver shivered a bit and wrapped himself in his robe a bit tighter, gripping at his wand, afraid he was going to snap it. "Why do I not remember it being this cold at night?" he asked.

"Because you were always covered in Quidditch sweat and running off to the showers," Fred answered, and he looked down the corridor that looked deserted, shrugging. "We ought to go and check the tunnels." He said, to George, really, since Wood wouldn't know about the them. Still, he supposed it coudn't hurt to show him now, Order and all. And they didn't have to use them anymore, so it wasn't a valuable enough secret to try to keep.

"Yeah maybe," he said, biting his lip. Still, it was a bit unsettling to him. This whole protecting people bit was new to him, so he was freaking out internally at every little thing.

He raised an eyebrow and gave Fred a sideways look. "Tunnels? What tunnels..."

It was always a little sad to see a mate turning into nerves. Except, it was also usually sort of brilliant, but when it was a life or death bit it took a lot of the good-natured humour of making fun of Oliver out of the equation.

"Oliver, mate. Captain of mine. You are about to discover one of Georgie and I's best kept secret."

Secrets? Granted he figured that Hogwarts held all sorts of secret passages and hallways, and it didn't surprise him in the slightest that the twins knew where some of these were. So it did make Oliver a bit excited knowing he was about to learn these.

"You're not going to kill me afterward, are you?" he chuckled with half a smile, trying to show that he wasn't as flipped over all of this as he truly was.

"No, but we might have to Obliviate you," George answered cheerfully, though there was a tense set to his jaw, too. He didn't like this. Hogwarts was meant to be a safe place. And now there was an attack, and Dumbledore wasn't about, and Potter faffed off somewhere with Granger and his little brother, since they hadn't been able to find them and McGoangall said Dumbledore was looking after Harry, and wherever he was, then Ron and Hermione would be too.

"Honeydukes?" he asked Fred absently, then didn't wait for an answer, turning to head for the passage. He'd always figured that for the most likely one to be sussed out, so if there was anyone using one, it'd be the one to check out first. Not that he thought anyone had figured it out.

"Shame we don't have the map," Fred said under his breath, and then fell into step beside his brother, though he slowed enough for Ollie to follow them.

"Don't think we want to Obliviate him. He'd forget he gave us permission for the product line, then."

"I rather like my memories, thanks," he said to George, but with some hesitation, followed the twins anyway. Oliver never had adventures like this in school. It was a shame that it took the threat of the Dark Lord at the schools years after leaving for him to get that adventure.

"Well, now that you put it that way," he said to Fred, "Obliviate away!"

"Yeah well, we don't have Potter either. So he's not even using it properly," George answered, a bit testy, though not at Fred. He was just worried for his little brother. "He signed the form. If he forgets, then we can just surprise him with the signature and prototype later."

George grinned at Oliver though. "Ever wonder how we were forever getting in Honeydukes sweets in the middle of the night? Or popping off to Zonko's to resupply?" he asked Oliver.

"Or how we had firewhiskey when most fouth years hadn't ever tasted it?" Which was lie, since it had been more like fifth year, but still.

"Like I said, Wood. Our best secret..." Aside from their spells and products, at least. Fred stopped at a certain stairwell and started down the corridor as if he'd done it a thousand times, which made sense since he had.

Susan / DA members in the Room of Requirement.
[info]susy_b
2009-10-24 03:24 am UTC (link)
Susan couldn't say she was scared. On the contrary, she was feeling rather brave at the moment. As the Army began filing into the room of requirement which seemed to be expecting them, Susan picked a quiet corner to try and pull herself together. She wasn't sure what to expect, but she knew if Ginny was sending out an urgent message for the DA to assemble and it was about an attack on Hogwarts then it must be serious.

Susan was still in her uniform as she glanced around at all the members of the D.A. It felt good to be apart of something, something that might possibly make this school safer. Her left hand was fumbling over the D.A. coin, looking at it occasionally for any signal that it was time to act but all it did was flash the symbol signaling all of them to meet in the Room of Requirement.

Out of the mass of them, Susan seemed the quietest, she kept her comments to herself, and out of the other people's way by standing off to the side. Wand was tucked away in a pocket, as green eyes looked at the faces of the members. This was going to be big, wasn't it?

Remus/Anyone in the Great Hall/Main Hall area
[info]twilight_scars

This was the part Remus hated about the war. The waiting. Knowing something was coming but unsure of what and unable to stop it ahead of time. It was like before. Everything rushing by in a whirlwind: people living like life was too short, getting married, having kids too young because there might not be another chance, trying to pack a lifetime of living in a few months. It was just like last time, and that's what worried him. He was terrified he and Tonks would end up like Lily and James, and that was not what he wanted.

Remus had half considered patrolling the areas of the castle he knew he could pass through with ease due to the Marauder's Map, but the large Great Hall seemed to be a more vulnerable area to him, and thus where he stationed himself upon his arrival to the school. Already he seemed to be a bit on edge. He was anticipating the attacks in his mind as he walked around, wand in hand with the handle tapping against his chin, his senses alert as he casually sniffed the air for anyone unfamiliar.

Tonks had been on edge ever since first receiving the notice from Minerva. There was so little they could do other than keep the students safe, and her own training as an Auror did little to help when they had an entire castle to protect.

She searched the castle until she discovered Remus in the Great Hall. Wand out, she approached him, her eyes searching the massive room as she did so.

"Has there been any sign of intruders?" Tonks said. Being near the front entrance gave them a larger chance of being the first to meet anyone.

His nose twitched as Tonks drew closer, the scent of her reaching him long before she did. Her presence comforted more than she probably knew and with her job as a professor at Hogwarts, he saw even less of her than before. "No," he said, raking his fingers back through his hair. "Just the occasional portrait asking a question. All in all, it's been very quiet evening."

Anxiously, he twiddled his wand between his fingers, eyes concentrated on the archway out into the main hall. How could any Death Eaters hope to penetrate the defenses of this school? There were so many ancient spells and magics in place, protecting and fortifying the building and grounds, he wasn't sure anyone could feasibly get in unless they knew the secret passageways of the castle.

"Anything on your end?"

Hannah & OPEN (DA Member - Prefect - Walking the Halls)
[info]hbotts
2009-10-24 03:52 pm UTC (link)
Hannah had her hand in her pocket, fumbling with the coin that rested at the bottom. It had done nothing but flash the signal for all DA members to meet in the Room of Requirement since early that evening. She had done as the coin suggested and, after deciding she and some of the other Prefects would patrol the hallways, had left the room. It was unusually cold in the corridors and she shivered as she waved goodbye to some of the other Prefects who were making their way in the opposite direction.

She wondered if she had it in her to actually defend herself and others in a time of crisis. Her hand continued to turn the coin over and over in her pocket. What had her mother done in her time of crisis? Died. Hannah let out a shaky sigh and was glad for a moment that she was alone. The corners of her eyes burned terribly and if she were to try and speak she was almost certain she would cry. Why were people so horrible? What was this world coming to? Killing innocent people on a whim, and for fun? It terrified her that Voldemort's followers were coming to Hogwarts. Hannah would be on their list. After all, they killed her mother, why not Hannah as well? They would recognize her name.

Completely lost in her thoughts she looked up and realized she'd traveled much further from the Room of Requirement than she had planned on and stopped. It was deathly quiet. Like the school knew something was going to happen. Swallowing hard, her grip on her wand tightened and she moved her eyes slowly to take in her surroundings. Something sounded behind her and she turned quickly, her wand out at the ready. Surprisingly her hand was steady as she pointed her wand down the dark corridor. Whoever it was would be smart to reveal themselves quickly or else find themselves at the rather nasty end of a Confundus charm.

Padma & Justin (Patrolling for stray students)
[info]ravenclawpatil
2009-10-26 02:45 am UTC (link)
Padma and Ernie had rushed to organize the Prefects and assign everyone to patrols to sweet and make sure there was no one out after hours. There were adults, some she knew, some she didn't, stationed around, looking grim. It was all more than a little terrifying. They'd tried to keep the Prefects in pairs, but in the rush they had a lot of ground to cover, and some of the Prefects had to do head counts to make sure that everyone who was meant to be in their Houses were there.

She'd given herself a section of the first floor to patrol. Reasonably, that was the most likely place for anyone to come in, and they'd felt that should be seventh years only patrolling. It all made sense.

That didn't make it any less frightening though. She had her wand in hand, as she rarely did when she patrolled, and was schooling herself to not be jumpy, and just finish checking the halls by the east entrance so she could get back to her House. Footsteps behind her made her jump anyway, spinning around to face them, already starting to cast a spell. She cut herself off when she saw a familiar face, breathing a sigh of relief. "What are you doing down here? You scared me half to death!"

Padma & Justin (Patrolling for stray students)

Justin had never been the type to just sit around and wait for things to happen. He felt responsible for the people he cared about, whether he should or not and once he knew all the younger years of his own house were tucked safely into their rooms (it was the prefects job and not his, but he couldn't help himself), he'd set out into the castle, checking for strays. That was the excuse he gave himself, anyway. Really, there was one particular year mate he wanted to check up on, even if he knew she was perfectly capable of looking after herself.

He made his way through the halls, looking for her, finally spotting her as he reached the first floor. He grinned with relief to see that she was perfectly alright, though he might have felt a little guilty when she jumped.

"Looking for you?" he answered her, running a hand through his hair as he flashed her an apologetic smile. "I wanted to make sure you were alright," he admitted, his voice going a little quieter. He felt stupid saying it out loud, but at least this was better than asking her about homework.
