What: Accidental meeting on Thanksgiving Day
When: Morning of Monday, 2013 November 10
Where: Macy's Parade
Rating: ~PG-13 for some words
Status: Finished.
Although Bob had made it a point to leave his room less this late given his very unstable mutations, he couldn't find a reason not to go to the Macy's Parade. For one, this was going to be his first proper Thanksgiving so he might as well celebrate it to the best that he could. Maggie had suggested he check out the parade (although he didn't dress like puritan and put on instead a thick jacket over his shirt, a new pair of pants and a pair of fat socks he squeezed into his runners) so that was what he was going to do. For another, his mutation only affected mutants. Stand near a mutant and you could ask for all sorts of trouble. Stand near a normal human, though, and they would sooner catch a cold than be negated or detected.
He managed to waddle his way from the middle of the crowd to the barriers in front and leaned over to rest her elbows on top of one. Music and footsteps approached from the left and he was in a position that was more than ready to receive his spectacle. But in the meantime, instinct told him to turn to his left. It was just a nudge he couldn't avoid, like someone was staring at you and you had to look. It wasn't exactly the staring that drew him, though, there was no staring. There was, instead, an illuminated man, covered in a pattern that was both familiar and strange to Bob. Mutation patterns, he realized a heartbeat later. This man was a mutant. Huh. Small world.
That amusement died in place of something heavy and chilling when he realized who it was he was looking at. That jaw, that ear, that nose -- they could be apart for so long but Bob would know that look as if they'd only met yesterday. "Ron?" he couldn't help but call through the crowd.
