Bob did not expect to hear those names ever come out of Roman's mouth, and this showed in the way he dropped his jaw, slow, almost deliberately slow so Roman could over-think it. He never considered the idea that they may have been classmates in the past but Harper and Asher? How did Roman know them? How did Roman know to recommend them? Have they been meeting secretly in the past? And what for, is Roman thinking of switching to the Centurions?
Or is this because Harper and Asher were both Syndicates secretly?
Bob's mind was moving faster than he'd hoped it would that the departing customers had caught him completely by surprise, short of jumping. Like Roman, Bob had briefly lost control of his negation, one that was triggered and fluctuating from dead to very powerful no less.
"Christ, you're scaring me," he hissed very lowly but not even Bob was sure who he said it to, himself or his brother? Concern was etched deep into his features, he might have looked like a man lost. There was a flicker of a smile on his face at Roman's joke, a failure of an attempt to restore everything to normalcy, maybe laugh with his brother. But not even Thanksgiving could help him fool himself.
"Ron, why are you doing this?" he whispered, harshly but not because of hate at all. The concern had leaked out of his voice now; perhaps 'urgent' would have been a better way to describe it.
