I grew up in Portland, Maine, but somehow, I never became aware of the North American Wife Carrying Competition that was annually held in Newry, about two hours away. Apparently a couple wins the wife's weight in beer, and five times her weight in cash.

I do accept that that's a substantial weight of cash. It might be the only sport I can see a point in, though I'm not sure I'd try it myself. ... I mean, I have no wife, but still.

Let's start over.

You're not a harpy.

Though if you ever did want to marry me, I think you'd have to bash me over the head with it. I miss those things.

If we get to that point someday, I'll just let you know 'hey, I'd be cool with getting married' and let you sort of churn it around.

I'm glad you don't think I'm a harpy.

... is the beer or in glass or cans? Do you get to pick the brand? If I was carrying a wife, I'd want to pick the brand.

Glass. Harder to carry home, which doesn't seem fair. I don't know if you get to pick the brand. It's probably a local product, which wouldn't be a bad thing; Maine has some very nice breweries.

Microbrews are the only way to go anyway.
