A marvelous snupin story, and a couple of snarry stories:

SNUPIN:
The Monster's Mask by [info]arionrhod and McKay ([info]scribbulus_ink).
Rating: R
Warning/s: none given [dub-con?]
Summary: While investigating a series of murders, Severus and Remus unearth startling new information about each other as well.

Arionrhod and McKay write the most marvelous snupin fic - I find the archive of their stories an ongoing comfort and delight. Every time I read a new story they've written I'm amazed anew by the breadth of their imaginations. This story, while shorter than some of their fics, is every bit as wonderful as the others.

Sent off to investigate a series of murders, Snape and Lupin are forced by circumstance to learn to cooperate with each other. The murders Snape and Lupin are investigating appear to be vampire kills, so the presence of a Death Eater, a werewolf and a possible vampire brings up all kinds of interesting questions about the nature of monsters (as might be guessed by the story title.) The darkness both Severus and Remus have within is explored , as they learn ways they can freely release and express this darkness. The Monster's Mask is thoroughly satisfying and enjoyable reading - do go read and enjoy.

SNARRY - from the [info]snarry_games:
Sands of Time by [info]rons_pigwidgeon.
Rating: nc-17
Warning/s: non-snarry pairing; rimming
Summary: Harry is on the hunt for a serial killer, who is bent on making his mark by murdering famous wizards and witches in Time. While testing a special Time-Turner that can move both forwards and backwards in Time, Harry and Severus have an accident and find themselves in the middle of the underground facilities of Torchwood. They soon find out that these strange Muggles can help them track their killer and solve the crime.

This one is great fun - a very entertaining HP/Torchwood crossover. The two worlds are beautifully combined, and Captain Jack is wonderful. And OMG! Captain Jack! He's wonderfully depicted, and his sex scenes are hot. And as a bonus extra, I really like Draco on this fic - a secondary role, but a satisfying one. It's an enjoyable read, even for those not familiar with Torchwood.

Anachronism by [info]starcrossdkayla.
Rating: nc-17
Warning/s: abuse; non-con; non-snarry pairings
Summary: Upon waking up, Severus finds himself not recovering from Nagini's bite, but healing after a long-term mysterious illness. Not only must he uncover the mystery of the cause of his affliction, but also deal with his lover, who is the very last person he wanted to ever see again: Harry Potter.

I'm sneaking this rec in even though I haven't quite finished it yet. Anachronism didn't initially grab me. I started reading, didn't get into it, put it aside. Determined togive it a fair chance, I tried again - and am so happy I persevered, because it is utterly brilliant. It grabs you and won't let go.

Severus here is totally ic - at his very worst. He's malicious, nasty and paranoid beyond belief. After experiencing memory loss, he gradually comes to accept that he had altered, had become more than this bitter and twisted man, but as usual he is his own worst enemy. I won't say much more - don't want to ruin any of the marvelous story because it is brilliant- one of the most enthralling reads in this year's games. Even when you think you have it all worked out... further twistiness will surprise and delight. If snarry is your thing, don't miss this one. Even if snarry isn't your thing, don't miss this one!

Just to recap, the following are the absolute stand-outs in this year's [info]snarry_games so far (imo and in no particular order):
- The Snidget by acidburn & sinick
- D is for Defender by amand_r
- Sex, Lies and Audiotapes by raewhit (Joanwilder)
- The Hero's Return by cluegirl
- Two Lords A-Leaping by alisanne
- In Theory by Dementordelta & Cruisedirector.
- Anachronism by Starcrossdkayla.

Of course there have been many other wonderful comtributions; see the recs from the previous weeks for some of the entries I found especially enjoyable and memorable.

  • Memory on this brilliant RECS post! :)
    • Thanks! I'd forgotten how much energy I used to put into these - I loved doing them.
      • Yeah, I wouldn't know. The closest I get to making a rec list is adding things to my Memories. Including other people's rec lists, lazy sod that I am. :D
